After the nurses helped me take a shower and change my clothes, Gruvv always came to my room on his days off to dry my hair and brush my hair or just hang out and read some books.
"Your hair is stunning. How long have you been letting it grow?" He asked me one morning, while he was brushing my hair. He was careful not to put too much force behind it.
"I never cut my hair since I was a kid. It was usually my mom's job, and she'd only do a certain part of it." I shot him a reply, trying to explain, even though he wasn't so interested in the details.
"I'm curious to know whether the Rudapriya family has a history of having ash-colored hair like this. Your dad's got the same color."
I blinked and nodded slowly.
"Really? Hey, so what's your mom's hair color?"
That got me thinking of my mom. If I remember correctly, my mom, who was still in great shape, had pale white skin like me. She's got a small, high nose, thin, pink lips, and a pointed chin. She's a stunning Dominant Omega, one of the most gorgeous people I've ever had the pleasure to meet.
Ever since I was a kid, people have told me I look like my mom, but I never saw any similarities. After I was grown up, though, I could see my mom in myself.
"Mom has blonde hair." I said, responding to his question while Gruvv still gives me a helping hand with my hair.
"Really? Then she must be looking so beautiful."
I smiled slightly and said, "Right, she's so beautiful. People say I look like my mother."
When I said that, Gruvv suddenly made a move. Then he sat right in front of me and looked at me like he was about to say something. To be honest, his move caught me a little off guard.
He tilted his head to the side, as if he had something on his mind.
"In that case, your mother must be super gorgeous! Because you look really pretty too." He said with a chuckle, showing off his canines when he smiled broadly. "The Dhurudatta family is known for its black hair genes. We're not like the other elites who have their own unique characteristics. I think our ancestors were just regular folks."
I got a kick out of that. I'll tell you, that joke really cracked me up.
He finished his hair-brushing job on my long hair, and his touch was so gentle even though he had a big, muscular body.
Like most Alphas, his size is impressive, he's tall and muscular. He's got a sharp jawline and his hair is always perfectly groomed. He looks way younger when he doesn't wear gel.
When asked about his age, it turned out we were quite far apart. Gruvv was nine years older. His eyes were like a cat's, and his face had slightly Oriental features. He didn't show any signs of age at all.
"Do you want me to get you a wheelchair?" He asked when he was taking me out of the room.
"I had to learn to walk, though, the doctor recommended it." I said.
I could tell Gruvv was pouting, and he released a different pheromone scent.
He's disappointed.
I once asked him if all the people working here are also Alphas like him. He replied that everyone working here is just a Beta. Apart from the people he works with outside, there is no alpha or omega in the house.
I get why they don't care about the smell of his pheromones all over the house. I never said anything about it, but I've got a feeling Gruvv might be struggling with his pheromones. There was once a time when he would literally spread his pheromones all over the house, even though he was in his room.
Beta doesn't have pheromones, so they can't smell the pheromones that Omega or Alpha have.
We did our usual stuff, and Gruvv came with me to the garden as usual. I like to watch gardeners water the flowers and take care of them, or just sit in the backyard looking at the fish pond while I read.
When we talked about my offer to become a decoy so my father could come out of hiding, he didn't respond. He said he'll think about it some more, but that's it for now. I have no idea why Gruvv took me to his house and saved me from that Madam.
He said he didn't plan on trying to sell me.
"Gruvv..." I gave him a ring while we were enjoying a hot cup of tea.
He's currently enjoying a piece of sweet cake. He's unpredictable. He's got a big, muscular body and a tough face, but his pheromone scent is actually sweet, and he's got a sweet tooth too.
"Yes?"
"What's your plan?"
I noticed him flinching, he even stopped chewing and looked at me, like he was trying to figure out what was going on.
"Hey, why don't you take some time to enjoy your day? You don't need to ask about what I want all the time." He looked a bit upset and his tone turned colder as he looked at me.
It's hard to accept someone being so kind, rescuing me, and then letting me roam around their house, enjoying everything without any hidden agenda. I couldn't help but feel a little sketchy.
"You said you saved me to find my dad, right?"
Gruvv started to clench his fists, and his expression hardened. I could smell his altered pheromones again. He's actually pretty upset about it.
"I'm not interested in discussing it. It's my day off. Why don't you just kick back and enjoy today until tomorrow?"
I didn't add another word, and I was practically drowning in the pheromones. I know he's upset, but I'm wondering if he's really that upset about my question?
I had a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. This was a real pain, and it was like I was slowly being killed. I'm afraid that if it's too comfortable, whatever happens later is going to really shake me up.
I coughed up some flower petals. Gruvv was hurrying to grab the tissue he always carried with him, and he put it in my mouth, leaving the petals of the red flower in his hand.
My chest hurts. We'll never find a cure for this disease. Yeah, I know. The person who made me get sick already has people he loves. My dear, there's no way for my love to reach him.
I was still coughing and spitting out flower petals when the shadow of the person I loved came into my head.
"Shiloh, we can't be together. My family decided to set me up with someone else. Goodbye."
