"This is incredible..." Jane exclaimed as she touched the thick armor plates outside the truck.
Gu Chen didn't expect that the second option would be so magical. The entire car was wrapped in three-millimeter-thick stainless steel plates.
"But how do I inflate or replace this tire later?" Jane asked, kicking the steel plate at the wheel.
Gu Chen squatted down and took a closer look, then reached out and touched a pin behind the steel plate. He fiddled with it for a while and then gently bent it.
The steel plate outside the tire was lifted up.
"Cool!" Jane exclaimed happily.
Gu Chen was overwhelmed by Jian's rapid-fire questions in the silver truck that was back on the road.
"How come killing zombies earns experience like it's a game?"
"You said you can also gain experience from the zombies I kill? Does that mean we are teammates?"
"You said that if we are teammates, then does your system have some way to bind us together?"
"So, do I also have a special role in your system?"
Gu Chen looked at Jane in surprise as she was making excited guesses. After just a few words, Jane had almost figured out the passenger module.
Although this girl is extremely left-wing, she has strong intelligence and initiative.
It's quite pretty, Gu Chen's mouth curled up.
In such a high-pressure environment, having a partner will indeed make people less depressed, especially a capable and beautiful partner of the opposite sex like Jane.
The sound of the vehicle's engine once again attracted the zombies in the town, but this time the truck with upgraded armor did not retreat.
The zombies blocking the road were knocked away directly, and the truck passed through the zombie group at an extremely fast speed.
"Why are the zombies running out of the houses? Why aren't they on the roads?" Jane asked while looking in the rearview mirror.
The extremely fast zombies were ultimately unable to catch up with the truck with increased power. Jane frowned as she watched the zombies that had abandoned the truck slowly return to the wooden house.
Gu Chen also saw this scene through the rearview mirror. He couldn't figure it out either. The most important thing was that after passing the residential area, the number of zombies decreased a lot.
Thanks to the truck's improved defense, as long as there are zombies in front, Gu Chen can step on the accelerator, knock them away and then chase them away.
Only half the experience is needed to upgrade the vehicle again.
Tall buildings appeared in the town center, but they were only six or seven stories high. Jane noticed that some people were sticking their heads out from the top of these buildings and looking around.
"There are living people on the rooftop." Jane reminded.
"They should be survivors. I don't have the energy to care about them." Gu Chen replied coldly.
"but..."
"No buts. Put away your saintly heart. We can't take risks for strangers." Gu Chen interrupted Jane, "You haven't experienced chaos, so don't ask me."
Gu Chen's thoughts suddenly returned to the day before Christmas two years ago.
Chinatown is decorated with lights and our compatriots are preparing to get together for a good meal after going to bed at 8 o'clock in the evening.
At that time, Gu Chen was helping his parents deliver goods to the store, but what he didn't know was that two black youths came into the store at this time.
Gu Chen's mother was in charge of the cashier. His father, who was counting the goods, heard his wife's voice: "Honey, a black man came in."
Two African-American youths dressed in obvious black clothes were wandering around the shop, and Gu Chen's father followed closely behind them.
One of the black youths was angered by Gu Chen's father's behavior. Wearing a headscarf, he shouted at Gu Chen's father: "We are customers! We come to buy things! We don't steal!"
Gu Chen's father did not back down at all: "Listen, I don't want to cause any trouble, just buy the things and leave quickly."
Two black youths, followed by Gu Chen's father, were selecting goods from the shelves. The man in the turban suddenly angrily pushed Gu Chen's father and shouted with words full of F-words: "Hey, I said, we are not thieves! Stop staring at us like that!"
Gu Chen's father staggered after being pushed. His wife, who was at the cashier counter, saw this and said nervously, "Husband, stand further away."
After wandering around the shelves for a long time, the two black youths finally walked to the cashier counter carrying two bottles of whiskey.
The young man in a headscarf raised the bottle of wine and challenged Gu Chen's father: "I pay! I don't steal!"
"Pay quickly and leave." Gu Chen's mother urged cautiously.
There are many cases of black people being robbed in Chinatown, and the police almost never intervene.
The hooded youth poked his companion's arm. "Bro, give me one."
His companion seemed much more polite. He nodded to Gu Chen's mother to show his friendliness, then took out a cigarette from his sweatshirt and handed it to her: "This is the last one."
"Okay, let's enjoy it together." The young man in a turban took a lighter directly from the counter and lit a cigarette.
A sweet and pungent smell emanated, and Gu Chen's parents frowned as they looked at the cigarettes in the fingers of the two black youths.
"Pay quickly, $39.8, and leave." Gu Chen's mother pleaded, unable to bear the pungent sweet smell.
"Who said we don't pay!" The black man wearing a turban searched his pockets, took out a wad of crumpled money and threw it on the counter.
"36.5 US dollars is not enough." Gu Chen's mother said after counting.
"Wife, that's enough, let them go." Gu Chen's father walked behind the two black men and said.
The two black youths who could not understand Chinese did not know what Gu Chen's parents said. They mistakenly thought that the two yellow people were laughing at them.
The black man in the turban suddenly pushed Gu Chen's father to the ground, and then shouted at his companions: "You give me the remaining money!"
Gu Chen's father struggled to get up. The noise in the store attracted his compatriots next door.
When the crumpled money was gathered, the two black youths shouted at Gu Chen's parents, "I told you we don't steal!"
Before leaving, the young man wearing a headscarf provocatively blew a cloud of smoke into Gu Chen's mother's face.
"Cough cough cough" Gu Chen's mother, who was coughing due to the pungent smell, fanned the smoke in front of her with her hand.
"Fxxk! What are you doing!" The black youth wearing a headscarf was angered by Gu Chen's mother's actions. He thought the other party was trying to drive him away.
"Come on! Go! Go! There are people everywhere outside!" His companion grabbed him and dragged him out.
After leaving the store, more than a dozen Chinese compatriots holding wooden sticks, brooms and shovels stared at the two of them.
"Fxxk! What do you want to do!" The young man wearing a turban shouted angrily around.
"Get out!" The Chinese compatriot, holding the tools tightly in his hands, shouted at the two men.
"Your parents should feel sad for you!" came a voice from the crowd.
The black man in the turban was so angry that he wanted to rush up and beat to death the man who dared to talk about his parents, but his companions desperately dragged him away.
When Gu Chen returned from delivering the goods to a customer two blocks away, Chinatown, which was originally hung with light strips, was in a mess.
Dozens of black people ran out of Chinatown, some holding or carrying various packages.
The originally peaceful Chinatown was now filled with curses and banging sounds.
Gu Chen knew that something big had happened, so he ran to his own shop.
A young black man wearing a bright green headscarf came bounding over with his hands raised arrogantly, shouting, "If anyone says anything bad about my parents again, come and tell me!"
The young man stared at Gu Chen as he passed by, then made a shooting gesture with his right hand: "Bang! Yellow skin!"
The black man's companion behind him pushed him hard: "Get out! You've killed someone!"
Standing in front of his parents' bodies, Gu Chen felt like the sky was falling.
Because it happened so suddenly, he stood there motionless.
His parents, who were supposed to wait for him to return from delivering the goods before attending an activity in Chinatown together, were lying in a pool of blood, with blood still slowly oozing from the bullet holes in their bodies.
"Gu Chen..." A compatriot patted Gu Chen on the shoulder, "Those black people suddenly broke in and beat everyone they saw."
"I saw a black man wearing a green turban enter your store."
Gu Chen's eyes turned red. He rushed into the warehouse, picked up a sharp knife and rushed out.
Gu Chen, who was being held tightly by his compatriots, only heard the sirens at this moment.
Medical staff carrying stretchers ran in and out of the ambulance, but after arriving at the scene, they took a look and left.
A new group of people came in, some in uniform holding cameras and clicking pictures of the bodies of Gu Chen's parents.
It was not until his parents' bodies were covered with light blue cloth and carried away that tears suddenly welled up in Gu Chen's eyes as he sat in the police car.
In the following year, Gu Chen went to the police station countless times, but he never got a final answer.
Mass incidents, missing persons, accidents, etc., with information to provide.
It's always the same old stuff...
Gu Chen, who planned to take revenge privately, hid a pistol and searched many African-American gathering places in the past two years. He was beaten many times but did not find any clues.
When he was seeking revenge, he had witnessed the madness of many lower-class Americans and knew what kind of beastly behavior these people would commit in an environment without any supervision.
Shaking his head, Gu Chen pulled his thoughts back. Looking at someone waving at him from a tall building, he continued driving forward without reducing the accelerator.
Jane pursed her lips tightly and stopped talking.
The atmosphere was a bit awkward. Gu Chen and Jian didn't speak along the way. At the same time, there were fewer zombies on the road.
"Why are there so few zombies here?" Jane took the initiative to speak, breaking the silence.
"It's not a residential area, and it's some distance from the edge of town." Gu Chen moved his shoulders and answered.
Gu Chen then expressed his guess: "The residents here have time to flee. Zombies may not come to areas without living people."
"How did the zombies form? Have they broken out in other places as well?" Jane thought, supporting her chin with her hand.
"Radio!" Gu Chen and Jian said in unison.
Jane turned on the car radio and kept changing channels, then her puzzled eyes met Gu Chen's.
There were no reports of any social changes on the radio, and all radio stations were broadcasting their daily fixed programs in an orderly manner.
"What's going on?" Jane kept fiddling with the knob, muttering to herself in disbelief.
Jane suddenly stopped fiddling with the radio and said in shock at the road, "Patient Zero of the zombies is in Hurley!"
Gu Chen frowned: "What do you mean?"
Jane carefully told Gu Chen about what had happened in the past two days. The first time she saw a zombie was at a gas station, and the driver said he vomited blood after being bitten.
There were also two colleagues who were knocked to the ground and bitten by the convenience store clerk.
"When I bought coffee, I saw bite marks on the clerk's arm." Gu Chen also told his discovery.
"Zombies haven't spread out of Heli yet. The reason why people turn into zombies is not through the air, nor through water, but through body fluids!" Jane made a rough inference.
"If it's the air, then we would have become it. The water source is also impossible because it is a public water source. There is no way there would be any survivors in the town."
"The colleague who was bitten by the store clerk and the driver who turned into a zombie after being bitten can both serve as evidence of transmission through bodily fluids."
"Coupled with the bite marks you saw on the clerk's arm, it's basically confirmed that transmission through bodily fluids is one of the conditions for becoming a zombie."
"But why are the zombies hiding in the house? Why are they heading towards Hurley in the fog?"
Jane rubbed her head and thought, but she couldn't come up with an answer.
Gu Chen patted Jian's shoulder and said, "There are too few clues. It's normal that you can't deduce anything. Let's survive first and figure out the rest later."
Looking at a spacious building in front, Gu Chen reminded: "We have arrived at the weapons store."
The two men unpacked a lot of the cartons containing the goods and used tape to wrap all the limbs except the joints with thick cardboard.
With each other's help, the two of them also wrapped thick cardboard around their chests and backs.
"Don't take too much. The guns sold are all semi-automatic. The important thing is to take guns with universal ammunition and as many bullets as possible." After Jane made the suggestion, she got out of the car with Remington and Gu Chen.
Gu Chen held the crowbar with a dagger wrapped around the bend of the head in his hand. After thinking for a moment, he stuffed the small revolver into Jane's overalls.
"What?" Jane asked in confusion.
"Your hunting rifle is too long. It's more convenient to keep a pistol. Besides, a revolver with only five bullets is not as useful as a crowbar at close range." Gu Chen patted the revolver in Jane's trouser pocket and replied.
The two of them walked into the gun store back to back. This was Gu Chen's first time to a place where guns were sold.
The ATF authorization was placed behind the entrance reception desk, which was already in a mess.
Many of the guns on the gun wall at the back were missing, and the shelves of training uniforms and bulletproof vests in the center of the venue were almost all over the ground.
"Clean up the place first..." Gu Chen said to Jane who was leaning against him, holding a crowbar.
Gu Chen, who was walking forward gently, suddenly felt Jane, who was pressed against his back, move, and then a pair of earmuffs were put on his head.
After putting the earmuffs on Gu Chen, Jane pulled up one earmuff and whispered in Gu Chen's ear, "Let's change the method. I'll put the gun on your shoulder. I'll observe the environment, and you'll be responsible for preventing close-range dangers."
Gu Chen, who was wearing a T-shirt, nodded, and then the barrel of the Remington was placed on his right shoulder.
Jian held Gu Chen's left shoulder with his left hand and held the gun handle tightly with his right hand and gently pushed Gu Chen.
Feeling the force on his left shoulder, Gu Chen gripped the crowbar tightly and walked forward slowly.
Occasionally, blood stains could be seen on the floor of the store, but they were just dripping drops of blood, not the large pools of blood seen elsewhere.
The two of them narrowly escaped danger and arrived at a counter full of shotguns.
After taking off Gu Chen's earmuffs, Jian leaned back against Gu Chen and said, "Pick the second one on the far left."
Gu Chen glanced at the wall of guns, then took down the shotgun that Jane mentioned.
Looking at the shotgun, Gu Chen muttered: "I've only practiced with pistols..."
"Benelli M4 Super90 pump-action shotgun, SBS short-barrel shotgun, loaded with 5+1, a total of six 12-caliber shotgun shells, very suitable for close combat, even those who have never used it can quickly get started." Jane's voice came from behind.
This shotgun feels heavy in Gu Chen's hand, and it is also a good choice as a blunt weapon when there is no bullet.
"Let's go to the bullet area." Holding Gu Chen's shoulders, Jane once again placed the Remington on Gu Chen's shoulders who was wearing earmuffs.
After hanging the gun on his body, Gu Chen moved forward quietly according to Jane's instructions. When passing a fire door, Jane heard crying coming from inside.
With her left hand, she suddenly pressed Gu Chen's shoulder, then took off Gu Chen's earmuffs and whispered in his ear:
"There was crying behind that fire door."
"Take the bullets first, and pay attention to this door..." Gu Chen turned his head and almost touched Jane's face.
The two men went back to the bullet area, which was also in a mess. After searching for a long time, they finally found a few boxes of bullets that were suitable for their current guns.
After loading eight boxes of bullets into the tactical backpack he picked up from the ground, Gu Chen pressed the shotgun shells into the magazine one by one under Jian's instructions.
Standing in front of the fire door again, Gu Chen, who took off his earmuffs, also heard the crying inside.
The two looked at each other, and Jane gently opened the door with her left hand.
Then a burst of crying and shouting came from inside the door: "No! Please don't!"
The sound startled Gu Chen and the other two. Jian blocked Gu Chen behind her, crouched down, took a quick look through the crack in the door, and then came back:
"There are six people, five of them seem to have no signs of life, and there is a girl who is tied up. Please watch their backs for me while I go in."
After fully opening the security door, Gu Chen held a shotgun and looked towards the gun store lobby, while Jane walked over with the shotgun.
"No! No!" The girl's crying inside gave Gu Chen a headache. It would be troublesome if there were zombies nearby.
"Shh, shh, shh! We mean no harm! Don't shout so loudly!" Jane ordered in a low voice.
Seeing that it was a woman who came in, the tied-up girl finally suppressed her voice, but still said tremblingly: "I'm sorry, I, I thought it was them who came back."
They? Gu Chen turned his head and took a look at the room - this was an office converted from a small warehouse. In the room of more than 20 square meters, there was only a large desk and a few pots of green plants lying on the ground.
There were five people lying on the ground in the room, and a girl tied up in the corner.
Jane was checking the people who had fallen to the ground. Then she turned around and said to Gu Chen, "They're all dead. They were shot to death."
"Who are they you're talking about?" Jane moved next to the girl and asked in a low voice.
The girl, trembling all over and with tears in her eyes, answered: "My neighbors, there are eight of them."
"Last night, wild beasts broke into the town. Everyone was fleeing for their lives in the thick fog. My family and I fled to the police station in the town center..."
"Many townspeople were hiding in the police station. They suddenly burst in and said that divine punishment had arrived and God had begun to purge sinners."
"As soon as the chief opened his mouth to ask what was going on, he was shot dead. The sound of gunfire sent the townspeople fleeing frantically."
The girl was crying so hard that she could barely utter a complete sentence. Gu Chen frowned and asked, "Where are they now?!"
Jane patted the girl on the back: "Don't be anxious, hold your breath for a while after inhaling."
The girl shook her head violently. "I don't know. I only know that after the fog cleared in the morning, they said they were going to look for divine inspiration."
"Why are you tied here?" Jane asked after looking at the network cable that tied the girl.
"They say I'm a sacrifice to the messenger." The girl trembled violently after saying this. "Save me, save me!"
Jane looked at Gu Chen with pleading eyes, but the pickup truck moving outside the French window made Gu Chen whisper: "Someone is coming! Don't worry about it, let's hide!"
Jane stared into the girl's eyes: "We will save you, but you can't betray us!"
The girl fell to the ground in a panic, writhing and crying, "Don't go, save me!"
Gu Chen was so angry that he almost pulled the trigger of his shotgun: "Shut up! If you yell again, I'll kill you first!"
Then Gu Chen waved desperately at Jian, and before closing the fire door, Gu Chen said to the girl: "We will save you if there is a chance, but if you don't seize the opportunity, then we can't take care of you!"
Gu Chen saw that the pickup truck stopped next to his truck, and several people got out of the truck and the truck bed and circled around his truck.
Jane pulled Gu Chen and pointed to the second floor and said, "Go up."
Carrying guns and backpacks, Gu Chen and his companion went up the stairs to the second floor.
The entire second floor should be the negotiation area. A wide extended platform is surrounded by glass, and the tables and chairs used for negotiations are neatly arranged on the platform.
There is a well on the ceiling of the platform, about one and a half meters long and wide, with a metal cover on it, which seems to be the entrance to the roof.
"They probably haven't come to the second floor much. I'll guard the stairs, and you stay hidden and aim at those people."
Gu Chen took out two boxes of bullets from his backpack and handed them to Jane, then placed the shotgun ammunition at his feet.
Gu Chen kept his body as close to the wall as possible, holding a shotgun and sticking half of his head out from behind the wall to observe those people.
Jane found a position to lie down, and crawled slowly close to the ground to find the right angle.
Eight strong Mexican men pushed and shoved their way into the gun store, laughing.
Those people were speaking in Spanish, and Gu Chen didn't understand a word.
Gu Chen couldn't see much of the scene from his angle, but he could clearly hear Jane's surprised gasp.
Gu Chen then heard the cries of the tied-up girl, who was shouting not to be pulled out of the fire door.
The girl didn't speak Spanish and kept begging for mercy in English.
"You should feel honored because you will soon be dedicated to the messenger of God!" someone shouted at the girl in English.
Divine messenger? Gu Chen was baffled by the term.
"Save me!" the girl cried loudly.
"It's over!" Gu Chen and Jian thought with a tingling scalp, and then they instinctively lowered their bodies.
"I knew there was someone! That truck outside is yours!" someone shouted.
"Hide! But the punishment of the sun god Tonatiuh has already arrived! You will eventually become sacrifices to the gods!"
The tied-up girl lay on the ground and begged for mercy, but after a loud gunshot, the girl's voice disappeared.
"Damn it, they attracted the zombies!" Jane, holding a hunting rifle, saw a group of zombies running towards the gun store.
"You will become sacrifices!" Along with the shout, a "puffing" sound was heard as the body was pierced.
Jane, lying on the ground, was horrified to see a bloody heart thrown in front of the gun shop.
These Mexicans actually took out the girl's heart!
After a few mumbled words in Spanish, the sound of the fire door closing and locking was heard.
"They're hiding behind the fire door! What should we do?" Jane asked nervously after standing up with her shotgun.
"Go to the rooftop!" Gu Chen said anxiously as he threw all the bullets into his backpack.
The ceiling was nearly four meters above them. Gu Chen and Jian gritted their teeth and dragged over the tables and chairs and stacked them together.
The zombies outside were getting closer and closer, and those Mexicans actually used pickup trucks to lure the zombies from the town here.
The heart discarded at the door smelled of blood, and the zombies rushed towards it like a cat seeing a mouse.
Jane, who was sitting on Gu Chen's shoulder, poked open the metal cover with a shotgun, then grabbed the edge with both hands and reached up hard.
Gu Chen didn't care about anything at this moment. He grabbed Jane's legs with both hands and pushed her up hard.
Jian, who had crawled onto the rooftop, lay on the ground and stretched out his hand to Gu Chen: "Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
The zombie that grabbed the heart chewed it up and swallowed it in two bites. Then the body of the girl with a hole in her chest in the gun shop attracted the zombies again.
Gu Chen threw the gun and backpack to Jane and stepped back. After a few running steps, he jumped up on a chair and grabbed Jane's arm.
"Crash!" The chair that was kicked fell to the ground with a noise, and the zombies in the gun store all turned their heads and stared at Gu Chen who was hanging in the air.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!" Jane struggled to hold on to Gu Chen. After the chair fell over, Gu Chen, who had no foothold, watched the zombies running towards him with their mouths wide open and howling.
Holding Jane's arms tightly with both hands, Gu Chen tried his best to keep his body from moving.
The zombies obviously had no intelligence. They kept jumping towards Gu Chen on the first floor with their fangs and claws bared.
But as one zombie reached the stairs, the rest of the zombies swarmed up to the second floor.
Jane blushed as she pulled Gu Chen to the edge of the exit. After Gu Chen grasped the edge with both hands, Jane grabbed Gu Chen's T-shirt and pulled him up with all her strength.
The jumping zombie grabbed Gu Chen's calf, and the thick cardboard tied with tape was pulled off, and the zombie also fell from the air.
Gu Chen and Jian lay on the rooftop, gasping for breath. They had just barely escaped death.
Looking down from the entrance, although the zombies are much stronger and faster than ordinary people, they still cannot reach the height of more than four meters.
"Those Mexicans are fanatics." Jane said after throwing away the T-shirt that was torn after pulling Gu Chen hard.
His T-shirt was torn, so Gu Chen simply took it off and was shirtless. He glanced at Jane and asked, "Do you understand Spanish?"
Nodding, Jane translated what those people said after entering the gun store:
"It's come true! The divine punishment of the fifth solar cycle has arrived."
"Tonatiuh's messengers are with us. Let us offer the sacrifice quickly."
Gu Chen stretched out his hand to interrupt Jian: "Wait, they are not mistaken zombies for messengers of God?"
Jane looked down from the rooftop entrance at the zombies gnawing at the girl's corpse and replied, "In Aztec mythology, humans are the living dead, the remains of the creatures of the previous four epochs of destruction."
Pointing at the howling zombies below, Jane endured the discomfort and continued: "Aren't these zombies the embodiment of their myths?"
Gu Chen knew that there were all kinds of cults in America, but he never expected that the orthodox mythology of the Aztecs in South America was so dark.
"Then they said they started the sacrifice, and then the girl was..." Jane shook her head, blaming herself for not being able to save the girl.
"If only we had untied her then."
Gu Chen sat on the ground and said to Jian, "Impossible. Her personality is such that even if we rescue her, her crying will eventually expose us."
Gu Chen really had the intention to kill at that time, but he couldn't make up his mind to take the life of a living person, and secondly, the gunshot would definitely attract those people who were observing the truck outside the gun store.
"What should we do now?" Jane asked, looking at the densely packed zombies in the gun store.
Gu Chen stood up and looked around the rooftop environment: "Let's take a look at the situation on the rooftop first, and then wait."
The spacious rooftop was filled with a lot of things. Gu Chen and Jian came to an iron gate leading to and from the rooftop.
I gently pushed the iron door, and it was obviously locked.
"I don't know where the gun store is across the street, but as long as we don't make any noise, the zombies shouldn't be able to find this door." Gu Chen peeked out through the crack in the door, but unfortunately he couldn't see anything clearly.
He and Jane searched through the supplies piled on the rooftop and unexpectedly found a box of weapons.
The box was hidden at the innermost part of the cargo. After opening it, the two were surprised to find grenades, a rifle and ammunition inside.
There are also a bunch of standard firearm tactical accessories.
"A Colt AR15?" Jane took out the rifle and examined it. "It's a semi-automatic rapid-fire version with a forced-reset trigger. It's considered contraband."
"No wonder it's hidden here. It must have been secretly modified and left here waiting for delivery."
After checking the bullets, Jian took out the three magazines and pressed the bullets in one by one while saying to Gu Chen, "Gu, take a look at the tactical accessories."
Ever since Gu Chen took off his shirt, Jian often stole glances at him. Gu Chen's muscles were tense from doing physical labor frequently, but the most important thing was the various scars on his body.
Gu Chen rummaged through the box and took out the accessories, while Jian pressed the bullet and took a peek.
Gu Chen turned around and asked Jian to quickly shift her attention back to the magazine. He pushed all the tactical accessories towards him and said, "That's all. I don't know anything except the scope and silencer."
Jane took a quick look. "A muzzle brake with an attack head, an AIMpoint MPSII red dot sight, a Boris RT-6 SFP scope with 1 to 6x magnification, a handguard, a stock with storage, and a Magwell extended magazine receiver."
"What is this person going to do with all this? This is completely for the purpose of carrying out suppression missions."
Gu Chen shrugged. He had no idea about these things and had just mistaken the muzzle brake for a silencer.
Jane loaded all the bullets into the magazine and checked them, then counted the remaining bullets. "Three hundred rounds in total, three magazines. This one holds 53 rounds, and the other two polymer magazines hold 40 rounds."
Jian installed the tactical accessories, and Gu Chen took out six grenades and placed them next to Jian: "Six grenades..."
Jane was shocked after taking a look: "M67, military grenade, such a dangerous thing..."
"But it's enough to deal with the zombies below."
Jane carried the prepared AR15 on her shoulder and tried to take aim, then she lay on the rooftop and aimed at the zombies below.
"Should we kill them all?" asked Jane, who was lying on the ground.
After hearing Jane's words, Gu Chen ran to the edge of the rooftop and looked out.
There were only scattered zombies wandering outside, and Gu Chen shouted at Jian: "Try it!"
Pulling the bolt handle with a click, Jane put the rifle against her shoulder and fired a shot.
Gu Chen's eyes flashed with experience +1. Seeing Jane's round body shaking due to the recoil, Gu Chen felt that this partner was really good.
Jian turned sideways and waved at Gu Chen: "Gu, come here. I have a good idea."
Looking at the scars and muscles on Gu Chen's body, Jian continued, "You should use this time to familiarize yourself with firearms."
Following Jian's instructions, Gu Chen lay on the ground and placed the butt of the gun against his right shoulder.
Because of the perspective, Jane also lay on the ground and directed Gu Chen:
"You don't need to close your left eye to aim. You can use your left eye to roughly search for the target, and then use your right eye to focus..."
Reaching out to fiddle with the Boris RT-6 scope, Jane continued, "This is the dial for adjusting the magnification, and then you use the red dot to aim at the target."
The two people huddled together, one listening attentively to the instruction, while the other imparted his experience earnestly.
Gu Chen felt his right arm a little sore. He moved his shoulder and suddenly touched something soft.
Oh my god...the feeling of emptiness made Gu Chen break out in a cold sweat.
Jane got up. In order to observe the zombies below, her upper body was pressed on Gu Chen's shoulders.
"Release the trigger immediately after pressing it, otherwise it will continue shooting if you force reset the trigger." Jane scratched her blonde hair and ran to pick up the shotgun.
Jane's shot just now made the zombies in the gun store, which had finally calmed down, active again. They howled and rushed towards the place where the gunshot came from.
Gu Chen held his breath and pulled the trigger. After a "bang", his right shoulder seemed to be pushed hard by someone.
"Bang bang bang bang!" Gu Chen, who had never fired an automatic weapon before, was frightened by the continuous recoil, and his index finger unconsciously pressed hard on the trigger.
Bullets hit the dense group of zombies randomly. The zombies knocked down by the bullets struggled for a moment, then got up and continued to howl towards the small entrance to the rooftop.
Jian returned to Gu Chen's side and gently held Gu Chen's right hand: "Don't panic, let go first..."
"Recoil is the feedback the firearm gives you. Unlike the recoil of a pistol, the recoil of a rifle is fed back to your shoulder. You have to learn to feel it and not be scared by it." Jane Wenrou said softly, holding Gu Chen's right hand.
This is how Jane's father taught her at that time.
Gu Chen was breathing heavily, looking at the blood splattered on the zombies by the rifle bullets, and the anger that he had been holding back deep in his heart was reflected out with the huge recoil.
Although he had a lot of experience with pistols, this was his first time using an automatic rifle.
The loud gunshots and the continuous recoil hitting his shoulders made him think only of violence.
Jian held Gu Chen's right hand firmly and continued softly: "Now you need to calm down. The feeling of shooting a rifle and a pistol is different. Loosen your fingers."
Gu Chen took a deep breath, and Jian gently moved Gu Chen's finger away from the trigger: "You must know that your index finger should be placed outside when you are not shooting, but you have to make it a habit."
Automatic weapons are so cool... Gu Chen thought after he gradually calmed down.
Gu Chen put the butt of the gun on his shoulder again, looked at the scope with his right eye, and hooked and released his index finger.
"Bang, bang, bang!" The zombies fell one by one under the rhythmic gunfire.
Jane raised her eyebrows as she watched Gu Chen shooting: Gu Chen has a great talent for shooting.
Almost caught up with me, Jane's mouth curled up and she thought while looking at the scars on Gu Chen's back and whispered: "The person who left these scars had better not be seen by the current Gu."
Gu Chen, who was completely immersed in shooting, became more and more proficient in using the rifle.
Just as the red dot in the scope was about to move to the zombie's head, Gu Chen's index finger flicked it down.
When the red dot is pointed steadily at the zombie's head, the index finger just presses the trigger in place: "Experience +1"
"Click..." The gun suddenly stopped firing. Jian, who was watching Gu Chen from the side, said, "The bullets are all gone."
After learning how to unload the magazine and load it under Jian's instruction, Gu Chen sat up and said, "You do it, I'll go load the bullets and calm down at the same time."
Jane hummed, then half-knelt on the ground with her rifle, took aim, and fired.
Gu Chen, who was holding the magazine, asked, "Why don't you lie down?"
Jian turned around puzzledly and asked curiously, "The field of view is better this way. Why do I have to lie down?"
Because of your butt... Gu Chen didn't dare to say this, but he blurted out: "I think you look good when you shoot while lying down."
After saying this, Jane actually raised her eyebrows at Gu Chen provocatively.
Jane smiled and changed her posture to a prone position. She put the gun in place and killed the zombies one by one.
Gu Chen, who was pressing the bullet, watched Jane's buttocks jumping up and down due to the recoil, and the loading speed slowed down a lot.
After emptying the magazine, Jian stood up, holding his shoulders, and said to Gu Chen, "Gu, try that Benelli shotgun."
The two of them used this as a training ground.
Gu Chen came to the entrance with a pump-action shotgun, aiming at the zombies below, while Jian beside him had a smirk on his face.
"Bang!" After a loud bang, the shotgun actually brushed past Gu Chen's shoulder and flew back half a meter.
Gu Chen was also frightened by the sudden loud noise and the terrifying recoil and took two steps back.
"The recoil of a shotgun is very strong, and you have to put your center of gravity forward." Jane said with a laugh.
Gu Chen awkwardly picked up the shotgun again. This time he pressed the butt of the gun against his shoulder and leaned forward.
"Bang!" His ears hurt, but Gu Chen felt refreshed as he watched the blood splatter on the zombie's head: "If I use this gun to blow the black man's head off..."
Gu Chen snorted coldly and threw away the idea. Looking at Jian who was still happy beside him, he asked, "Are you happy?"
Jane nodded. "Just like the first time I shot a shotgun."
Gu Chen saw a red scar on Jian's right waist at this time: "What's wrong with your waist?"
Jane glanced down and said nonchalantly, "I got burned by the rebounding shell casing when you were pressing me down in the car this morning. It's okay."
After saying that, Jian looked at the various scars on Gu Chen's body and asked, "What about yours?"
Gu Chen looked at the scars on his body, then turned his head to look at his shoulder: "The glory of a warrior."
Jane raised an eyebrow, "Hmm?"
"I was injured while seeking revenge for my parents. I have been delivering goods while looking for the murderer for the past two years." Gu Chen said with a pout.
Jane covered her mouth and asked, "Did you go to the black area to look for someone?"
Gu Chen remained noncommittal: "It's okay, I didn't run into the gathering area, I was just squatting outside. And the person who scarred me was worse than me, but I still haven't found the murderer."
Jane asked incredulously, "Are you alone?"
"Don't underestimate me, I'm good at running away and fighting. Besides, I'm just observing from the sidelines." Gu Chen flexed his biceps and answered while looking at his muscles.
The roar of the zombies below the rooftop interrupted their conversation. Jane leaned over to take a look and asked, "There are still quite a few."
Gu Chen's vehicle could have been upgraded long ago, but the problem is that he can't get down and back into the truck now.
The gunshots attracted other zombies wandering around into the gun store. Gu Chen roughly calculated that there were at least a hundred zombies in the gun store.
"We have enough bullets. We'll get more bullets after we clear out the zombies." Gu Chen and Jian discussed and decided to use the terrain advantage to eliminate the zombies.
Jane looked at the second-floor platform under the patio and said, "And those fanatics in the fire door."
"Going to kill someone?" Jane said to herself.
"If possible, it would be best if we sneak away." Gu Chen suggested. Firstly, he didn't know whether he could pull the trigger decisively if the other party was a human being, and secondly, the other party also had modern thermal weapons.
Only his vehicle can be upgraded, and his body is still that of an ordinary person. If he is hit by a bullet, he will either die or be injured.
"Let's clean up the zombies first." Jane lay on the ground and shot at the zombies.
While helping Jane fill the magazine, Gu Chen counted the remaining bullets.
"There are less than a hundred rounds left, only enough to fill two magazines." Gu Chen handed the magazine to Jian and said.
The zombies within the field of vision have been almost cleared out, and the two know that the remaining zombies are basically hiding in the blind spots of vision.
"Are we going down?" Jane asked after putting the magazine into the large pocket of his overalls.
Gu Chen leaned over and took a look: "Wait a moment."
As soon as he finished speaking, a burst of gunfire was heard from the lobby of the gun shop.
Those Mexican people came out.
Gu Chen gritted his teeth. It seemed that his plan to sneak away was a little difficult to achieve.
After covering the rooftop exit, Gu Chen pulled out a grenade from his tactical backpack and asked, "How do I use this?"
Jane shook her head: "I have never touched a grenade."
Gu Chen looked at the round thing, took a deep breath and said, "Then use it like in the movie."
After pulling the pull ring, Gu Chen opened the rooftop cover and threw the grenade over the second-floor platform of the gun shop and dropped straight down.
He slammed the lid shut, and Gu Chen and Jian hid away with their heads in their hands.
Four seconds later, a violent explosion was heard, and the gun store's tempered glass curtain wall turned into fragments and sprayed out.
After opening the lid a little, Gu Chen saw a wounded Mexican man on the first floor pointing a gun at him.
At the critical moment, Gu Chen rolled to the side and a bullet hit the lid and went through.
Jane ran to Gu Chen anxiously: "Gu! Are you hurt?"
Gu Chen shook his head: "He probably didn't see me, he was blocking our sight."
After saying that, Gu Chen suddenly pulled Jian aside and said, "They are from the town and must be very familiar with the gun shop! You guard the right side of the entrance with your shotgun, and I'll guard the left side with the shotgun!"
After hearing this, Jian raised her shotgun and aimed at the entrance. Gu Chen ran quickly to the raised steel structure exit on the rooftop with the shotgun.
As soon as he reached the exit, Gu Chen heard someone mumbling something in Spanish inside. After a gunshot, he heard the sound of a chain being pulled.
Gu Chen gestured to Jian, and Jian shrewdly took out a grenade and nodded.
Pulling the ring of the grenade, Jane rolled it across the ground to five meters in front of the rooftop entrance.
Gu Chen and Jian lay on the ground. As the iron door of the rooftop was opened, the grenade exploded as expected.
With a loud bang, the steel structure of the rooftop entrance was torn apart by the shock wave, and countless shrapnel wrapped in flying metal fragments whizzed away from Gu Chen's back.
Feeling the violent vibration coming from his abdomen, Gu Chen felt a sweet taste in his throat and spat out a mouthful of blood foam.
A grenade blew a small hole on the rooftop, and the original steel structure entrance was also twisted and deformed.
On the stairs leading to the rooftop, several Mexicans were lying on the ground, bleeding and wailing.
After shaking his head and feeling a little less dizzy, Gu Chen raised his shotgun and looked at these people.
A young man with minor injuries raised his gun and pulled the trigger when he saw Gu Chen.
Gu Chen suddenly retracted his head and looked at himself in horror: Fortunately, I was not hit.
Gritting his teeth, Gu Chen held his breath, stretched out the shotgun and fired a shot.
After the gunshot, Spanish curses were heard from the stairs. Gu Chen ignored them, adjusted the muzzle of the shotgun and shot; continued to adjust the muzzle and shoot.
Based on what he had just seen, Gu Chen shot all the bullets at the locations of those Mexicans before moving to another position.
Gu Chen endured the pain in his arm from the recoil and carefully looked around. There were five bodies with mutilated limbs on the broken stairs.
Dragging the gun and running back to Jane's side, Gu Chen said as he pressed the bullet: "Five dead."
Jane was so nervous that her whole body was shaking. The fragments of the grenade explosion and the broken steel plates almost brushed past Gu Chen's back.
"What should we do now?" Although Jane was very familiar with guns, she was facing a living person at this moment and she suddenly had no idea what to do.
"Give me the grenade." Gu Chen said gritting his teeth.
Gu Chen suddenly opened the cover of the skylight where they were and threw a detonated grenade towards the place where there were people.
After the explosion, Gu Chen ran to the entrance of the rooftop and threw another one down the stairs.
Jane hid in the blind spot and looked at the first floor: "That man ran away!"
After taking a breath, Gu Chen looked at Jian and said, "They still have three people. Our position is fixed. If this continues, we will be the ones who suffer."
Jian Qiang suppressed the trembling all over his body: "You want to break through by force?"
Nodding, Gu Chen picked up the grenade and said, "I'll jump down first, and you can come down after it's safe."
After opening the lid, Gu Chen threw the grenade out.
When the explosion sounded, Gu Chen quickly landed on the ground while holding the entrance to the skylight with a shotgun.
After rolling on the ground, Gu Chen raised his shotgun and quickly looked around.
There were zombie corpses lying everywhere on the ground, and the sticky blood made it almost impossible for him to stand steadily in his canvas shoes.
Fortunately, the remaining Mexicans were not nearby.
Nodding at Jane who was looking at him with concern in the patio, Gu Chen caught the rifle and backpack that Jane dropped.
After helping Jian down from the shop carrying the hunting rifle, Gu Chen and the others looked at the gun shop that was riddled with holes from the grenade. Fortunately, the ammunition in the shop was not detonated.
The half-collapsed second-floor platform was filled with zombie limbs and broken arms, and the corpses and internal organs on the ground made it difficult to walk.
Carrying their backpacks, Gu Chen and Jian slowly moved to the first floor back to back.
A painful wail was heard from the corner. Gu Chen, aiming his gun, saw a zombie with only the upper body left lying on a Mexican and biting him.
This Mexican was the one who blocked the view of the patio just now. He was unable to dodge the first grenade thrown by Gu Chen and was seriously injured.
Unable to escape, he ran out of bullets in his gun and was eaten by the remaining zombies.
Jane looked at the man and asked a few questions in Spanish before saying to Gu Chen, "He doesn't know where his other companions are either."
After saying that, Jane raised her shotgun and shot the man in the head.
Gu Chen looked at Jane in surprise. What happened to this girl?
"He asked me to end his life," Jane said after pulling down the bolt and ejecting the shell.
After using guns to kill the remaining zombies, Jane and Gu Chen packed all the bullets suitable for their current guns into their backpacks in the bullet area.
Gu Chen, alert to his surroundings, saw the pickup truck outside the gun store disappear: "Their pickup truck drove away."
"Let's go too!" Gu Chen put on the backpack full of bullets. Jian picked up another backpack and then hurriedly picked up a few clean training uniforms and protective gear and stuffed them into the bag.
Jane grabbed two more pairs of desert combat boots and piled the supplies together before anxiously saying, "There's a laptop in the office behind the fire door!"
Thinking of the USB drive in the car, Gu Chen nodded: "I'll guard it, and we'll leave after you take it."
Jian picked up his shotgun and opened the fire door. Gu Chen saw a figure flash out and shouted, "Danger!"
Before he could finish his words, a Mexican man put his left hand around Jane's neck and put a tactical dagger against Jane's artery with his right hand, threatening: "Put down the gun!"
Gu Chen pointed the shotgun at the man, while Jian slowly let go of the shotgun.
"And you! Put down your gun! Or I'll kill this woman!" the Mexican shouted in English.
Gu Chen saw Jane blinking at him desperately.
Does this girl mean that she should put down her gun as well?
Gu Chen lowered the muzzle of his gun slightly and shouted at the other party: "Let her go, otherwise you won't survive."
"The Sun God has sent out his messenger. All I have to do is see the Sun God alive!" the Mexican shouted.
"But your companion abandoned you and drove away." Gu Chen gently placed the gun on the ground and replied to the man.
He wanted to trick the other party to see if there was only one person left.
There were five Mexican bodies on the stairs leading to the rooftop, and one was bitten by a zombie and killed by Jane.
Six of the original eight people were clearly dead.
"He was scared away by the messenger of God. He will be punished by the Sun God immediately because of his weak faith!" The Mexican's dagger pressed into Jane's neck, drawing blood.
Gu Chen raised his hands in front of him and slowly approached the man.
Jane desperately gestured downwards with her eyes, and Gu Chen roughly understood what Jane meant from the corner of his eye: she had the small revolver in her trouser pocket.
"Can your Sun God defeat Hongjun?" Gu Chen was less than five meters away from Jian.
Gu Chen's words made the other party stunned for a moment: "Hongjun? What is that!"
Jane's hand had already reached into her pocket. Then Jane adjusted the muzzle of the revolver and pulled the trigger. "Bang!"
The bullet went through Jane's overalls and struck the Mexican in the thigh.
The Mexican howled and thrust his dagger into Jane's neck.
Jane tried her best to hold the opponent's right wrist with her left hand, but her strength was much weaker than that of the opponent.
Gu Chen rushed over after the gunshot rang out, and before the tip of the dagger was about to pierce Jane's fair neck, he grasped the sharp blade of the dagger tightly.
Blood instantly dripped from his right hand, but Gu Chen did not feel any pain. With his adrenaline rushing, he punched the Mexican's right wrist with his left hand.
The Mexican lost his balance due to the pain in his thigh and the hit on his wrist, and fell to the right.
Jane pushed away the extremely dangerous dagger and then broke free from the Mexican's arms.
Gu Chen held the opponent's right arm joint tightly with his left hand, and his bloody right hand let go of the dagger and grasped the opponent's right fist.
Pulling down with the left hand and pushing up with the right hand - the opponent watched helplessly as the dagger he was holding tightly was sent to his neck by Gu Chen.
Puff... Gu Chen pressed the opponent's right fist and stabbed the dagger hard.
The Mexican, with blood foaming from his mouth, was pressed to the ground by Gu Chen, and the light in his eyes gradually dimmed.
When the dagger was pulled out, the splattering blood stained Gu Chen's body.
Jian came up anxiously to check Gu Chen's right palm: the wound was so deep that the bone was visible and blood was oozing out.
"Go to the office and find something to bandage it! This wound can't get infected." Jane asked Gu Chen to clench his fist and then open the fire door.
Jane frantically searched the office and finally found a large roll of paper towels in a drawer.
Jian used a dagger to cut off the overalls on his right leg, tore it apart and wrapped it around Gu Chen's right hand. Then he pulled out a large piece of toilet paper, crumpled it into a ball and stuffed it into Gu Chen's right hand:
"Hold it tight!"
Gu Chen only felt the pain at this moment, and soon the tissue was soaked with blood.
"Damn it!" Jane looked at the blood dripping from the tissue and wrapped the cloth strips made from her overalls around Gu Chen's right arm. "Let's go, let's go to the town hospital."
Gu Chen felt a little dizzy at this time. He felt like there was a heart in his right palm: every beat caused severe pain in the wound on his right palm.
After dragging Gu Chen back to the truck, Jian placed Gu Chen in the passenger seat and then sat in the driver's seat: "I remember passing by the hospital on the way here."
When Jian closed the car door, Gu Chen saw the vehicle upgrade option after the prompt sound:
[Vehicle Upgrade: LV4 (175/270)]
[Host selection upgrade reward]
[1. Vehicle size increased by 20%]
[2. Vehicles can be customized]
[3. One weapon can be bound to the vehicle, providing 100 rounds of ammunition for that weapon per day]
Jane started the car and stepped deeply on the accelerator.
There was a violent push on her back, and Jane screamed as she was pressed against the back of the chair.
Gu Chen felt that the blood in the wound on his palm was flowing back: "Slow down, slow down, the power of the truck has been upgraded."
After the sudden brake, Gu Chen, who was not wearing a seat belt, rolled onto the passenger seat floor. Jane kept apologizing and helped him up.
"I can now change the vehicle so that it can bind our weapons and provide ammunition." Gu Chen said with pale lips.
A fixed supply of 100 rounds of ammunition is provided every day, which is an ideal resource for doomsday survival.
Jian had no objection to Gu Chen's proposal: "It's up to you, but we have to go to the hospital quickly to stop your bleeding."
Gu Chen hummed, and after choosing the third option in his mind, the guns they brought back were suddenly surrounded by blue light.
"Let's choose the AR15. After private modifications, it has a good rate of fire and is capable of accurate mid-range bursts and close-range suppression." Jane suggested.
The AR15 was then completely wrapped in blue lines, and the back seat of the car was also outlined with blue lines to resemble a box.
As the upgrade was completed, Gu Chen suddenly felt that his palm was not so painful anymore.
Still feeling a little dizzy, Gu Chen shook his head slightly and untied the cloth strip that Jane had wrapped around his palm.
"What are you doing? Don't untie the cloth." Jian Yuguang persuaded nervously after seeing Gu Chen's actions.
Then Jane stared at Gu Chen's open right palm with wide eyes: the deep wound that was originally bleeding actually had granulations emerging and was slowly healing.
In the blink of an eye, even the scar on Gu Chen's right palm disappeared.
But then Gu Chen saw a system prompt that frightened him: "Life repair has been used once, two times remaining."
Another sudden brake, and Gu Chen crashed into the passenger storage box.
"You want to kill me?" Gu Chen's chest was hurt by the collision. He looked at Jian with resentment and said speechlessly.
"This, this, this, how is this possible..." Jane pointed at Gu Chen's right hand and stuttered in surprise.
Looking at his intact right palm, Gu Chen fastened his seat belt and said, "I've heard people say I have superpowers."
"Superpowers?" This was the only explanation Jane could come up with.
"Hmm." Gu Chen, who had escaped death, answered after thinking about Jian's decisive action in treating his wound just now.
If Jian hadn't cut his overalls in time, Gu Chen didn't know how much more blood he would have shed.
Cut the overalls... Gu Chen stole a glance at Jane's right leg - white, really white.
The truck stopped on the road. Jian and Gu Chen took off the cardboards tied around their bodies. Jian raised her butt and picked up the backpack from the back seat.
"I picked up a few combat uniforms that weren't stained with blood."
But after looking at the bloodstains on each other's bodies, they both decided not to change...
Jane hadn't taken off her makeup yet. The first day she was scared by the zombies and cried, and her makeup was already smudged.
Coupled with the high intensity of survival today, Jane's face has a bit of a death metal style.
"I, I want to find a place to wash up." Jane suggested a little embarrassedly.
Gu Chen was also feeling uncomfortable with the blood that was gradually coagulating all over his body. He nodded and said, "Go north, and after about 30 kilometers, turn east. There's a motel there."
"Let's get out of Hurley first. If the motel is safe, we'll rest there."
Because he often has to deliver goods, Gu Chen is quite familiar with the roads in New Mexico.
New Mexico loves spicy and strong flavors, and domestic spices and hot sauces are quite popular here.
Jane finally got used to the upgraded truck. She controlled the speed and muttered to herself, "This acceleration is faster than a Bugatti Veyron."
Gu Chen raised his eyebrows: "It seems like you have driven it before."
Jane smiled: "That's right..."
A silver mirrored truck was driving alone on the road, leaving behind a cloud of dust after turning right at a fork in the road.
"Buzz buzz buzz..." A loud engine sound came into the truck.
Jane poked her head out: "Helicopter! Help is coming!"
Gu Chen narrowed his eyes and stared at the gradually growing shadow in front of him: "No, that's an armed helicopter!"
"We're not here to rescue." Gu Chen said as he looked at the approaching Apache attack helicopter.
Two Apaches flew over the sky above the truck, and the dust they kicked up hit the truck's armor with a crackling sound.
Following closely behind was the roar of a huge engine: an A-10 attack aircraft flew past at high speed.
"What are you doing?" Jane asked as she looked at the attack aircraft and helicopters that had disappeared from the rearview mirror.
Gu Chen turned on the radio, but as usual, there was no special news.
"Oh my God! They bombed Hurley!" Gu Chen, who was tuning the radio, suddenly heard Jane's scream.
Flames appeared in the rearview mirror, and smoke and dust rose in the direction of Hurley.
"Why, why? There are still survivors inside!" Jane said to herself in disbelief with tears in her eyes.
Gu Chen stared at the rearview mirror, and new flames appeared from time to time in the direction of He Li.
"Hurry, hurry into the desert! Don't go to the motel!" Gu Chen shouted at Jane.
Jane turned the steering wheel and the car jolted into the desert.
"Step on the accelerator! Drive deeper into the desert!" Gu Chen urged Jane while looking in the rearview mirror.
Although Jane didn't know Gu Chen's intention, she still stepped on the accelerator and drove towards the depths of the desert at high speed.
The truck sped across the desert, leaving a long trail of dust and sand, quickly moving away from the road it had just been on.
The rising fireball appeared in the rearview mirror again: that was the location of the motel in Gu Chen's memory.
"What are they doing? What the hell are they doing?!" Jane shouted while looking in the rearview mirror.
Jane, with tears in her eyes, lost control of herself: "Shouldn't we rescue the survivors? Why are we doing this?!"
Gu Chen ignored Jane's hysteria. He stared at the rearview mirror - an armed helicopter appeared.
Although they hid in the desert and were not on the road to the motel, the sand and ruts kicked up by the truck could not be concealed.
"Quiet, quiet! They want to silence us! Let's think about how to survive first!" Gu Chen shouted at Jane while watching the approaching helicopter.
Jane, her makeup all smudged, looked at Gu Chen, her eyes filled with despair: "Why did they kill me? Shouldn't the army help the people?"
"Your skin color and family background prevent you from being exposed to the darkness of this country." Gu Chen replied through gritted teeth.
The helicopter in the rearview mirror was getting closer and closer, and the roar of the rotors could be heard.
"Are we going to be cleaned out too?" Jane slammed the steering wheel hard. "I don't believe it. I don't believe it."
Gu Chen was almost in despair at this time. Even if his truck had been upgraded, it was just a moving target facing the armed helicopter.
When Gu Chen thought that the helicopter was going to attack them, the mechanical giant that brought him endless pressure actually exposed its belly and turned around.
Why is this? Gu Chen racked his brains but couldn't figure out the reason.
Jane looked at the Apache moving away in the rearview mirror, feeling as confused as Gu Chen.
At this moment, the car radio broadcast: "An explosion occurred in the small town of Hurley in southern New Mexico due to a natural gas leak..."
Both Gu Chen and Jian saw shock in each other's eyes: He Li's situation was classified as a natural gas explosion so quickly.
"The state government urgently dispatched the National Guard to the scene for rescue, but no survivors were found at the scene."
"The state government has urgently contacted the federal government. This incident is the worst natural gas leak in our country."
Jane slammed the radio. "Liar! You're murderers!"
Gu Chen looked at Jane with tears streaming down her face, snorted and said, "This is the real America."
The stopped truck was lonely in the desert like a homeless stray cat. Jane and Gu Chen were wrapped in long blankets and said nothing.
"I need to go to the bathroom." Jane said, then lifted the blanket, bent over, groped behind the seat, opened the door and got out of the car.
Gu Chen watched as Jian fiercely threw out the urine bag he had hidden yesterday: "Ah!!!!!!!!!"
Jane roared, releasing all the stress of the day.
Gu Chen also got out of the car: "Ah!!!!!!!"
Jane looked at Gu Chen and suddenly asked, "What are you shouting about? What do you need to release?"
Gu Chen picked up a handful of sand and threw it into the air: "I almost died today!"
"I haven't fucking avenged my parents yet!"
"I was almost blown to death by your country's soldiers!"
Looking at Jane, Gu Chen gritted his teeth and shouted, "Why the hell can't I shout?"
Jane squatted in the desert, hugging her knees. The bombing of Hurley today had brought down the perfect country in her mind. She was confused and kept repeating, "I'm sorry..."
Gu Chen saw that the girl was on the verge of collapse. If this continued, Jane might get stuck in a dead end.
Gu Chen thought about what he needed to do, and then he kicked Jian down and yelled, "Why apologize! What did you do wrong?"
Pulling up Jane by her jacket, Gu Chen leaned closer and said loudly, "This is the true side of this country! Why are you apologizing to me?! Stop being such a saint!"
In less than a day, Gu Chen and Jian struggled in the hands of death, and they tried their best to survive until now.
Jane suddenly threw herself into Gu Chen's arms, crying and shouting, "Why is this happening?"
Gu Chen subconsciously hugged Jane, and Jane, leaning on Gu Chen's shoulder, suddenly said, "Live! Let's live. I want to tell everyone the truth about He Li!"
Gu Chen looked at Jane, whose face was bruised, and nodded: "Live first. As for what you said about telling everyone the truth, you will know whether anyone will believe you when the time comes."
The two of them solved the toilet problem on both sides of the truck, and Gu Chen found two bowls of Zihaiguo from the cargo.
The goods in the truck were enough for the two men to last for a month, but they couldn't wash the blood off their bodies.
Hiding in the car and wrapped in blankets to resist the gradually dropping temperature in the desert, Gu Chen and Jian watched the steam pot on the central console spewing steam.
After venting her anger and being kicked hard by Gu Chen, Jane has calmed down now.
Looking at the bubbling steam from the self-heating pot, Jane glanced at Gu Chen and asked, "Gu, why did you come to America?"
"My father's younger brother, my uncle, received a scholarship to your Cornell University when I was three years old." Gu Chen answered, looking at the sky outside the truck.
"Ten years later, my uncle got a green card and brought my parents and me to the United States."
Jane swirled her fingers in the steam from the steamer: "Then your uncle is a technical talent."
"Then he committed suicide..." Gu Chen imitated Jane and played with steam, "because his achievements were stolen."
Jane opened her mouth in surprise and then closed it tightly, swallowing the sorry that was about to come out of her mouth.
Gu Chen's experience in coming to the United States is as ordinary as it can be. There are countless immigrants of this type in the United States every year.
But the tragedy of Gu Chen's family made Jane completely at a loss as to how to comfort him. Looking at the scars on Gu Chen's body, Jane whispered, "You must have had a hard time."
Gu Chen folded his hands behind his head and said, "We Chinese are not afraid of hardship. What we hate is injustice."
Looking at Jane's stained face, Gu Chen fanned the steam onto her face and continued, "Your skin color and your family background will, in most cases, prevent you from seeing the ugliness of this country."
"I have seen too many white people insulting my compatriots, and I have also seen stowaways of other skin colors robbing my compatriots as a profession."
"We and you seem to be on opposite sides of the same world."
Gu Chen opened the steamer and let the steam hit his face as he murmured, "If we hadn't come to America, I would be studying for a master's degree in China now."
After teaching Jian to take out the ingredients from the self-heating pot, Gu Chen smiled self-deprecatingly and said, "You know what? Before I came to America, my grades were very good."
"After coming here, my GPA was an A, but who knew that because of my uncle, no university would be willing to accept me."
Jane skillfully picked up a piece of potato with chopsticks and put it into her mouth, then quickly spat it out because it was so painful.
Gu Chen laughed out loud as he watched Jian sticking out her tongue: "You seem to be very skilled at using chopsticks, but why don't you blow on them before eating?"
Holding the warm hot pot, Jian gently replied, "I've never had Chinese food this hot."
Turning to look at Gu Chen, Jian asked in confusion: "Why can you be so optimistic after going through so many tragic experiences?"
Gu Chen, who was munching on vermicelli noodles, was stunned when he heard this. He leaned his head back on the seat and thought carefully before answering, "Bitterness and deep hatred will not help your future. To have clear thinking, you must keep your emotions active."
Pointing to a scar on his abdomen, Gu Chen said, "If I only had hatred in my eyes, I wouldn't have survived in the first black gathering area."
"Most importantly, everyone will be wary of someone with a serious face or hateful eyes."
As the sky gradually darkened, Gu Chen, who was eating a hot pot, heard a buzzing sound in his ears and saw the prompt:
Passenger Caroline Jane provides some survival points
[Survival Point Mall Activation]
