Chapter 7 - The Wannabe Edgelord (3/3)

Stephanie Gotts:

"Malcolm!" Catherine yelled as she rushed towards her brother, who woke up screaming.

"AHhh!" Malcolm screamed in pain. "Get away!" He was struggling in bed, moving like he was trying to fight off something. "Reggie!" Catherine tried to hold down her brother.

Stephanie was pushed back and fell into the floor after the monster began to smash into the RV. But it stopped after the sound of a whistle and then she heard Gabriel's voice. "Oh no." Causing the blond girl to immediately stand up and go to the window. Where she saw Gabriel standing there several steps away from the monster.

The monster made an incredibly unpleasant sound, before it charged towards Gabriel. Who was standing there, completely unfazed by it as the large monster ran towards him.

"What are you doing?" Stephanie asked in a very low voice as she watched in fear. But a part of her was overjoyed because for the first time, her prayers were answered and someone did come to save her.

The monster then closed the distance and attempted to slice Gabriel with one of it's long arms by delivering a wild swing, but Gabriel simply sidestepped to the left and hid behind a wall on the left side of the entrance. So when the monster's arm did a full horizontal swing, it collided with the wall. Smashing through it with ease but apparently getting stuck as it was struggling to pull it out. So Gabriel came out of his cover and pressed the tip of his assault rifle on it's head and pulled the trigger.

He practically unloaded the weapon in the monster's head at point blank and it visibly did damage. But once he ran out of bullets, the monster was able to pull it's arm off the wall and attempt to swing backwards at Gabriel, who barely dodged it by ducking, before he rolled away from the monster and into the garage. Where it followed him.

"Reggie!" Malcolm kept struggling, screaming his son's name.

"What is wrong with him?!" Stephanie asked in worry.

"He's burning in fever!" Catherine responded as she touched his head as he kept struggling. "What happened?!"

"Gabriel came back and is fighting that monster!" Stephanie informed as she kept looking through the window in hopes of seeing Gabriel. "We have to help him!"

"I'm a little busy right now!" Catherine yelled at her as she struggled to hold down her feverish brother.

"Reggie!" Who kept screaming his son's name. "REGGIE!"

"Dammit!" Catherine pointed out as her brother opened his eyes and looked around frantically.

While Catherine's focus was on her brother, Stephanie's focus was completely directed towards Gabriel. Who was now inside of that garage with that monster.

Gabriel Castle:

Gabriel hopped on the hood of one of the many cars inside of the garage and jumped to another as the Hive Baby chased after him.

It collided with the car as soon as Gabriel jumped away from it. It worked, so I just have to be quick. He thought as he proceeded to jump to another car.

The Hive Baby then effortlessly lifted the car off the way flipping it to the side as it continued to follow Gabriel. Shooting at it is useless because it's skin is thick enough to stop most bullets. The reason why he fired those shots at point blank was so he could damage it's eyes. It could obviously still see him , but it's sense of distance was affected and it can't tell how far Gabriel was.

It collided with the next car in front of it and that seemingly angered the foul creature, so it began to swing it's clawed arms. Those long arms of it alongside the amount of force that it was putting in those wild swings, it smashed through the cars like a through those cars like a wrecking ball.

Noticing that, Gabriel was forced to jump around the cars faster as the creature was about to catch on to him. He needed to get around it and get back to his RV. Eventually, he reached the end of that mess of cars and was about to jump back into the floor.

But the Hive Baby catched on to him fairly quickly as it smashed the car that he just jumped from into pieces by swinging it's arm downward. Thankfully, Gabriel was able to jump out of it before it got crushed.

Letting out that disgusting sound of his, it attempted to thrust it's claws at him, but Gabriel simply sidestepped, as the claws passed by him and pierced into a wall. When that happened, he attempted to shoot at it again. "Huh?!" Only to notice that his G36K was damaged as the barrel was sliced off. "Motherfucker!" He yelled as he realized that his assault rifle was unusable now and that it probably happened when he dodge that arm swing when he rolled into the garage.

His short moment of frustration was enough for the Hive Baby to pull it's arm off the wall.

Forcing him to immediately turn around and run to make his way to a path that leads to the floor above. Not exactly the best place to go but he had to get away from it. He also dropped the G36K on the ground because it was useless now. Especially after the Hive Baby stepped on it while chasing after him.

Gabriel was faster and was able to outrun it with ease, managing to reach the upper floor of that garage. Just like below, there was a mess of cars in there, that was just as bad if not worse.

Stephanie Gotts:

Stephanie was startled by the loud sounds, worrying about Gabriel's safety. Please be okay... She didn't hear anymore gunshots, but he heard the loud noises that sounded like metal being smashed.

"Malcolm!?" Catherine yelled, catching Stephanie's attention.

There was something very wrong with Malcolm, as it wasn't just the fever anymore. His skin began to turn pale and his nose began to bleed.

Stephanie had a really bad feeling about that, but she didn't have the courage to voice it to Catherine. Who was holding down her brother as he was struggling on top of Gabriel's bed.

Getting a bit closer, she also noticed something really strange as the veins in his arms became more prominent. "Ummm... Catherine..."

"Not now!" Catherine yelled at her.

"But Catherine -" Stephanie tried to tell her about what she saw.

"Not now, Stephanie!" Catherine yelled at her again.

"You need to-" She tried one more time.

"You need to get over it, he ain't our problem!" Only to be shut down by her once again.

Stephanie was confused but then she realized that she was talking about Gabriel. "He-" She was about to say that it was Malcolm, but once again, she was interrupted.

By the fact that Malcolm stopped moving.

Gabriel Castle:

Just like he did before, he immediately rushed towards the cars and hopped on the trunk of the first one he could reach as the Hive Baby followed him.

Jumped on car after car after car in order to create distance between himself and the Hive Baby. But once again, it simply swung it's arms widely, smashing through the cars in pursuit of him.

All he can do is try to get it away from the exit as possible, so he can run around it and make his way back to the RV. However, that might prove to be more complicated than he anticipated. Because he had jumped into another car and was about to go to another. That car he just jumped though, had the hood completely damaged, so he ended up stepping on the windshield. That shattered completely when he put weight on it.

Causing him to fall forward. "Hm!" Right into the small gap between that car and the one he was going to jump towards, where he almost fell head first into the ground. "What the..." He spoke out loud as he used his hands to stop the fall. Immediately standing to continue to run. "Fuck!" Only to come across the Hive Baby, who had closed the distance and immediately lifted the car in front of him and flipped to the side.

Letting out it's disgusting hissing, it attempted to stab Gabriel with it's claws, but he ducked and it went through the car that was behind him.

Before he could attempt to get away, it pulled it's arm. Pulling the whole vehicle with an immense force and causing it to collide with Gabriel's back, who stumbled to the side and fell on the ground. "Mmm..." Despite the pain, Gabriel immediately stood up as the Hive Baby yanked it's arm off the car, practically tearing it in half like it was made of cardboard.

Releasing another loud noise, this one sounded more like a roar. It proceeded to pull his arm back to attempt another attack. But as it did that, Gabriel charged forward and as it attempted to swing it's arm like scythe at him, Gabriel ducked under it and rushed past it. Running towards the car behind it.

It turned around immediately and attempted to thrust it's claws once again. Right when Gabriel performed a dive vault over the hood and rolled on the ground as the claws pierced through the car.

Once on his feet, he rushed to the exit. But the Hive Baby hissed loudly and pierced it's claws on the car that was on it's left, with unbelievable force, it actually launched the car towards Gabriel just as he began to descend into the floor below.

"Oh shit!" With him widening his green eyes as he saw the car coming at him like someone was driving it at full speed. Causing him to sprint away until he reached the floor below and jumped out of the way to the left. Falling on the ground as the car collided with the other cars.

Stephanie Gotts:

"AAAAHH!" Stephanie screamed.

Out of complete nowhere, Malcolm stopped moving and Catherine desperately shaked her body but he was completely unresponsive and not breathing. But seconds later, he got up and attacked Catherine.

"Malcolm!" Catherine yelled as her brother attempted to push her into the ground.

"No!" With Stephanie desperately trying to pull him off of her, but as she grabbed his arm, he yanked off her grip and stroked her face with the back of his hand. Causing her to stumble back into the kitchen and fall on her butt.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Catherine yelled as she pushed him off of her using her legs, with him falling backwards into the bed.

He got up just as quickly as Catherine and Stephanie did. However, Stephanie realized something. That his eyes were identical to that soldier that became a Hive Zombie.

"Malcolm... Stop..." Catherine didn't seem to notice or simply didn't want to.

Stephanie just walked back in fear.

Malcolm immediately charged at his sister like a wild animal. With her trying but failing to hold him down as he pushed her into the kitchen sink. Stephanie, seeing that, saw the pistol that Gabriel gave to her on top of the trunk. So she immediately picked up and tried to aim it but her hands were shaking in fear.

"Don't!" Catherine yelled as she noticed what Stephanie was going to do.

However, as soon as she yelled, Malcolm placed his hand around her neck and began to choke her. As Catherine gasped for air and desperately tried to push him away.

In an act of desperation, Stephanie ended up pulling the trigger. The gun fired a very loud shot that echoed through the RV and the gun flew off her hand after firing. The bullet hit Malcolm in the arm, right on the bicep. Allowing Catherine to break free by kneeing him in between the legs and pushing him to the floor.

She rushed towards Stephanie and grabbed the pistol that flew off her hand.

Malcolm slowly stood up, with visible difficulty. It was clear that his injuries were affecting his movement but he didn't seem to even notice, especially with the fact that his arm was bleeding. Once he was on his feet, Stephanie hid behind Catherine, who was aiming the pistol at him. "Malcolm... Stop." She practically begged him, but just by looking at his face, Stephanie could tell that it wasn't Malcolm anymore.

He stepped forward, looking like an animal that was about to charge at his prey.

However,

"Seriously?" The door of the RV opened, and Gabriel was on the other side.

Malcolm immediately turned his face to look at Gabriel, and charged at him instead of them. Both Stephanie and Catherine rushed towards the door, where they saw Malcolm trying to grab Gabriel. But Gabriel crouched, wrapped his arms around Malcolm's knees and lifted him overhead and flipping backward, causing him to land flat on his back on the hard floor.

Gabriel didn't even bother looking back and just rushed towards the RV rushing past them. With Malcolm once again standing up from the ground with difficulty, but once he was on his feet.

"NO!" Catherine screamed at the top of her lungs.

Stephanie gasped and covered her mouth in horror.

Because large claws went through Malcolm's chest. Her horror only increased when she realized that it actually came from that monster, which was standing on the entrance of the garage with it's right arm extended.

"MALCOLM!" Catherine yelled her brother's name in horror as she attempted to rush towards him. Unfortunately, more claws went through his stomach and the monster pulled his body towards it. "STOP!" Where it lifted him right above it's head and without any difficulty whatsoever. "AAHHH!" Ripped Malcolm's body in half, with his blood and guts falling all over it.

That sight, made Stephanie fall to her knees and vomit all over the floor. As she tried to take a deep breath, she moved her head up realizing that Gabriel was grabbing something from his trunk.

Gabriel Castle:

Not ideal, but I don't have a choice. Gabriel thought as he quickly grabbed the AG36 from his trunk. He immediately loaded it with a 40 mm grenade. Without the conversion kit, the AG36 only has a pistol grip and trigger group. While it is technically a self-contained single-shot weapon, it is not designed to be comfortably or effectively fired without the stability provided by being attached to a rifle or by having the standalone kit's stock. But since his assault rifle was destroyed and he didn't have the standalone kit, that would have to do.

Right besides his trunk, Gabriel also reached for his sword, pulling off the scabbard.

Holding his sword on his right hand and the grenade launcher on his left, he stood up from and moved towards the door. Walking past Stephanie, who vomited all over his floor. Reaching the door, he realized what just happened. "Goddammit..." Gabriel spoke when he saw what the Hive Baby did with Catherine's brother.

It released another disgusting hiss and pulled it's arm back in order to do the same thing with her. Causing Gabriel to rush forward, drop the sword on the ground and hold the AG36 with both hands. "Say hello to my little friend." Before he fired the 40 mm grenade at the Hive Baby, which exploded upon impact and caused the hideous monster to fall backwards into the ground.

It definitely caused damage, but it didn't kill it as he could see that it was still moving. Calmly, Gabriel moved towards Catherine, who was obviously in shock after witnessing her brother being ripped apart. So Gabriel simply grabbed her arm and pulled her away. "Come on..." She didn't resist it, so he simply dragged her back to the RV.

Stephanie watched as he pulled her in and gently made her sit on his couch. Before he tossed the empty grenade launcher back on the trunk and moved towards the door, passing through it and closing it behind him. Where he saw the Hive Baby standing up from the ground, but Gabriel paid no mind to it and simply walked towards his sword. .

"VITA," Picking up from the ground. "VERITAS," And twirling. "VICTORIA!" Before assuming a pflug stance.

Stephanie Gotts:

"What?!" Stephanie immediately stood up from the floor and rushed to the window when she saw Gabriel leaving the RV. "Is he gonna fight that thing with a sword?!" Where she saw him picking a really strange looking sword and holding it in a fighting stance.

Catherine just sat on the couch, silent and motionless.

Despite being very worried about her, Stephanie's attention was completely focused on Gabriel. Because right now, he was the only one standing between them and that monster.

The monster drew both of it's arms back and Gabriel charged towards it in response. It then thrusted it's arms towards him like a spear, only for Gabriel to simply side step to the left to evade it. Then it attempted to swing it's left arm backwards to hit him, but Gabriel easily ducked under it, then it tried to swing it's right arm like a scythe. But as it pulled back, Gabriel closed the distance and sliced the monster's with the sword.

Stephanie noticed that Gabriel managed to open a large cut on it's torso and a disgusting looking liquid came out of it. But then, it began to twitch and it made a loud sound that sounded like a roar. Before it began to swing both of it's arms wildly. Forcing Gabriel to quickly move back as the monsters swing it's claws wildly at him.

Gabriel simply moved around as the monster continued to try to slash him with it's claws. It almost reminded Stephanie of a fight between two boys that she saw at school once. Where one of them would just chase the other trying to hit him but missing every time because the boy kept moving around. It was almost the same thing, except that it was a big, scary monster trying to murder someone that Stephanie really likes.

Eventually, during one of it's wild swings, Gabriel dodged while simultaneously dashing forward. Getting on the monster's right side while gripping the blade of his sword with his off-hand, and stabbing the side monster's knee with it. The blade pierced through it and in a swift motion, Gabriel lacerated the knee with it, practically removing the back of it, leaving a large gap between the rest of it's shin and thigh.

It took a second for the monster to fall on the ground since the leg couldn't support it's large body anymore. As soon as it felt, it tried to use it's claws to crawl. Only for Gabriel to walk towards it and use his sword to chop the creature's arm right on the shoulder. It literally took a single swing of that sword, which makes Stephanie wonder what kind of blade is that. As it was clearly not normal since it was actually glowing.

Even with one of it's arms chopped off, it still tried to crawl away. However Gabriel simply stepped on it's back and without any hesitation whatsoever, impaled the sword into the monster's head. Not just once but ten times, pulling out and doing it again, and again and again. Then he also went as far as stomping on it over and over and over again.

After all of that, there was no doubt that it was dead. Or at least she hoped that was the case.

Gabriel Castle:

Why I'm even surprised, with the size of the symbiotic mass, it's obvious it laid its eggs already. Gabriel knew that it was time to get the hell out of that city since where there is one Hive Baby, it means that there are several. So none of this was worth the risk anymore. So as soon as he made sure that the Hive Baby was dead, he turned around and immediately walked back to his RV.

Removing both the hood and the balaclava as he opened the door and stepped, he was immediately greeted by Stephanie, who grabbed him into a very tight hug.

"Ummm..." Gabriel was caught off guard, but he decided to pat her head and ask. "Are you okay?"

The small girl simply buried her face on his chest but he felt a nod.

As she kept hugging him tightly, he moved his head to look at Catherine, who was sitting on the couch. Unmoving with a dead look on her eyes. Which prompts Gabriel to look behind him and remember what happened with her brother a few minutes ago.

"What the hell happened to that guy?" Gabriel asked Stephanie, who was still holding him tightly.

"I-I don't know." She moved her head up to look at him with her big blue eyes. "H-he just began to scream and struggle... A-a-and then he just stopped moving." Once she moved her head up, he realized that there was a bruise on her eye. "But then he got up from the bed and attacked Catherine." She moved her head to look at Catherine. "I think... I think he turned into one of those zombies."

But that made no sense, because he should have been able to tell that he was going to turn when he was tending his wounds and the Hive was nowhere to be seen to turn him into one, so how did that happen. Gabriel shaked his head as it wasn't time for that, so he gently pushed Stephanie off of him. "We found some people hiding in a construction site on the other side of the garage." He informed them. "Jonas is waiting there." And Gabriel wondered where the hell was he or that soldier or the bald guy with the rifle when Gabriel was fighting against the Hive Baby. Because he doubts that they didn't hear the gunshots or the explosion.

"Umm... Okay..." Stephanie moved her head to look at Catherine, who was just sitting there motionless. Then she approached her and sat beside her and gently touched her shoulder.

Gabriel quietly moved towards the driver's seat and drove his RV around the garage to reach the construction site.

"W-what was that thing?" As he drove, Stephanie asked him that.

"One of the Hive's Babies." Gabriel answered right away.

"O-O-ONE?!" Unsurprisingly, his choice of words visibly frightened her.

"Those things are born like cockroaches." Several come out of a single egg.

Any comfort that Stephanie attempted to give Catherine over her loss was immediately replaced by her shivering in fear. Not that Gabriel could blame her but it's better that she knows what they are dealing with.

It didn't take long for him to drive around and reach the construction site. The terrain was awful but the wheels were designed for that kind of terrain. Not wanting to park outside, Gabriel drove towards the entrance that he and Jonas went through but he turned the car around and backed up to get past the entrance. Because he has a feeling that he will probably have to speed up out of there and every time he has that feeling it proved to be correct.

Standing up from the driver's seat, he noticed the two women still in shock with what just happened. Causing Gabriel to sigh because that would be a problem.

Suddenly, the door of the RV opened, revealing Jonas. "What the hell happened?!"

Stephanie Gotts:

The next hour was dreadful to say the least. Her, Gabriel and Catherine ended up joining the rest of the group that was hiding inside of a construction site. She did know them but not personally except for Dacotah and her father.

Currently, she was just sitting awkwardly around a bunch of people that she doesn't know while Jonas, a soldier that she didn't know the name of and Dacotah's father, discussed something. Catherine was sitting besides her, completely unresponsive, just staring forward with an empty look in her eyes.

Stephanie couldn't blame her. Catherine and Malcolm were very close and watching her beloved brother dying in such a cruel and unusual way was something that nobody deserved to go through. Alongside the awful fact that Reggie is still missing.

Another thing that caught her attention was the fact that Gabriel was near one of the ledges of the unfinished wall of that construction. Looking at the outside like it was searching for something.

"Cooper is not back yet and I don't know-" The soldier spoke out loud.

"That scrawny idiot is probably dead meat now." Dacotah's father interrupted him. "I say we leave this place as soon as possible and try to get back to the cars."

"That giant lobster is there, so are those zombies that it controls, so that is not a good idea." Jonas was quick to argue. "And you heard what they said, that thing also has it's babies roaming around and one of them already killed Malcolm."

"I say we try to find the others, we will have a better chance to-" The soldier tried to speak but was interrupted.

"How the fuck do you suggest we even do that?" Dacotah's father asked. "Roam around the streets calling out for them?"

"We found you guys by looking for a trail, maybe we can find another and follow-" Jonas tried to speak but he was also interrupted.

"We would have to go back to the street where we left the damn cars to do that and you just said that the monster was there." By Dacotah's father who pointed out the problem with his idea.

Stephanie was very uncomfortable because it was obvious that none of them had any idea of what to do next and that kind of uncertainty, especially in a situation like that, gave her an almost unbearably ominous feeling. She fidgets with her hands a bit, before moving her head to look at Gabriel.

Who turned around and immediately moved towards them. However, he didn't stop to talk to anyone, he just walked past them and made his way to the stairs.

"Where the hell are you going?" Jonas asked him as he reached the stairs.

"I'm hungry." Gabriel casually replied as he descended down the stairs.

"What the hell is wrong with that guy?" The soldier asked Jonas.

"Unlike us, that guy had to survive all this time by himself." And the little time they've been out there since their shelter fell apart has been an awful experience non-stop, so Stephanie genuinely doesn't know how he handled it for three years. "I'm pretty sure his sanity suffered as a result of it."

"Nah... He just built a thicker skin out of necessity." Dakotah's father seemed to disagree. "I dealt with nutjobs, junkies and psychos for almost thirty years. " He used to be a cop. "To handle that kind of shit, you have to tough it up and learn to keep your cool in dangerous situations." Which was something that none of them were capable of doing yet. "That kid probably saw a lot of fucked up shit that desensitized him."

"Can we even trust him?" The soldier asked.

"Probably..." Jonas lifted his shoulders in response. "He wants to come with us to the community you guys found on the radio."

"Only Andreas and Rickson have the coordinates." The soldier revealed to them. If Stephanie is not mistaken they were the other soldiers that were missing. "So even if we made it out of the city, we wouldn't know where to go."

"Remind me again why those two were the only ones with the coordinates?" Dakotah's father asked.

"Andreas didn't want anyone getting funny ideas like stealing from us and going their own way." The Soldier explained.

"Then why the fuck did he told Rickson about it?" Dakotah's father presented that possibility. "That piece of shit is the one most likely to do that!"

"Yeah... I have to agree with Mr. Shelby." Jonas was quick to agree with him. "Rickson isn't exactly trustworthy."

That name made Stephanie uncomfortable, because Rickson was actually her sister's boyfriend and he always gave her the exact same level of discomfort that she got when she was around her father.

"Guys, to be honest, I don't have any idea of what we should do." The soldier confessed.

"We can't just hole up in here, because we don't have any supplies and the monsters might come for us." Mr. Shelby pointed out.

Jonas rubbing the top of his head, trying to think of something.

Stephanie just looked at the three of them being clueless of what to do while having to deal with the very cold breeze and the fact that she was hungry. All of that contributed to the realization that she really didn't want to be there.

Giving one final look at Catherine, who was just sitting there motionless. Just by looking at her, she knew that there was nothing she could do for her. So she just let her.

So she took a deep breath and stood up. Then she moved towards the stairs and nobody even noticed because they were too distracted to do it. Not that Stephanie expected otherwise since most don't pay attention to her anyway.

So she carefully descended those stairs until she reached the first floor. The cold was getting worse and it was getting dark, forcing her to hug herself as she moved forward.

Slowly, she approached the vehicle and slowly knocked on the door.

...

But she got no response. So she knocked again.

...

Still no response. "Umm... A-are you there?" She asked shyly as she endured the cold wind.

Thankfully, that worked and he opened the door. "What?" He was just wearing a braggy T-shirt and he put his glasses back on.

"I-I..." Stephanie didn't know what to say, she really wanted to ask if she could stay in his RV but now that he was right in front of her, she didn't know how. "I W-wa-was..." It was so cold and that just contributed to her stuttering.

Gabriel just looked at her shaking with the cold for a few seconds. Before he sighed and rolled his eyes. "Just get in." Before letting her enter.

Stephanie smiled before making her way inside the motorhome. It was really warm inside, a far cry from the outside and the place also smelled really nice.

Gabriel walked past her and made his way to his stove, where he seemed to be heating some water. "Did any of those three come up with a plan?" He asked her.

"Umm... No." Stephanie responded right away.

"I'm gonna be extremely honest with you." He opened a cupboard under the sink and pulled out something. Which turned out to be a canning jar. "This city is a complete deathtrap and the best course of action would be getting the hell out of here."

Stephanie had no argument there, especially if there are more monsters like the one that killed Malcolm roaming around. "I agree but..." There was still a problem. "We still have no idea where this community is and that soldier said that only two of them have the coordinates."

He opened the jar then he poured the water that he just heated into it before closing it again. Then she placed a fork on top of it and stared into the window.

Stephanie wondered what he was looking at, but saw nothing, only darkness. Which only made the dreadful atmosphere of that city feel even more suffocating.

It continued like that, until Gabriel walked past her and sat on his couch. Where she noticed another canning jar on top of the coffee table. He reached for a remote control and turned the TV on.

...

...

...

Stephanie stood there awkwardly for a bit as Gabriel didn't say anything. He did however, reached for the canning jar that was on top of the coffee table and opened it.

"Your cup is probably ready." He told her as he stirred it up with a fork.

"Oh!" Hearing that made her realize that the other that he just prepared was for her. "Umm... T-thanks." It definitely caught her off guard, and she was trying her best not to smile with how considerate of her he was.

So she picked up the canning jar and opened it. It smelled nice and she took a look inside to see what it was. Inside the jar, there were ramen noodles, soy sauce, corn, carrots, spinach and pieces of beef. It almost looked like instant noodles.

Being very hungry, Stephanie wasted no time in eating and the taste was great. That was the second decent food that she had since she left the shelter. The first was the sandwich that she ate after waking up in the RV. So she ended up devouring it.

"You can sit down if you want." He told her without even looking at her since he was concentrating on a movie that he put on.

Stephanie shyly looked at him, before she bit down her lower lip and slowly approached the couch to sit right beside him. "Ummm... What are you watching?" She asked in curiosity.

"Hard Boiled." Gabriel bluntly spoke as he put his feet on top of the table. "Press that please." He pointed towards Stephanie's side.

Stephanie moved her head and realized that it was a light switch. So she pressed it and the lights were turned off with only the TV illuminating them now. Although the darkness bothered her, she didn't say a word and quietly ate her noodles and watched the film with Gabriel. And she genuinely wondered how he could be so calm in the situation that they are in.
