Arthur's presence shifted the battlefield. As Shadow Sinestro tore through the nearest Black Lanterns without hesitation, Arthur landed with a muted thud on the ground, next to batman, his violet eyes flaring brighter than before.his voice carrying over the chaos.
"Come forth."
From the darkness around him, monstrous forms began to materialize. Shadow Giants, their sheer size dwarfing some nearby buildings, stomped into view, led by one bigger than the rest, Surtr. Shadow demons standing in formation, their grotesque shapes twisting with malice. Demon knights clanked forward, their armor black as night, glowing faintly with violet veins of energy. Behind them, General Tusk loomed, gripping his orb of avarice, Quick and Empress as well, while three of Arthur's most trusted Marshalls, Ultra, Kamish, and Igris emerged in deadly synchronization, Kamish monstrous size alone made the very air bend around him.
Batman's eyes narrowed beneath his cowl, analyzing the new arrivals. He exhaled slowly, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. "Impressive," he muttered under his breath, hand instinctively brushing against a Batarang.
Superman's smiled as he surveyed the formation from the sky, fists clenching. "I don't like to admit it," he said, voice low and measured, "I've seen a lot in this universe… but that is something." His gaze flicked to Kara, who was flying slightly behind him, her arms crossed, a faint smirk on her face.
Back in Jump City, Robin, Beast Boy, and the other Titans leaned forward as they watched through their screens what was happening in Metropolis, their eyes wide as they absorbed the scale of Arthur's force. Jaime muttered under his breath, "That's… insane." Beast Boy merely whistled, green eyes scanning the towering Shadow Giants.
Arthur's attention returned to his forces. His voice rang clear, commanding yet calm. "You guys, alongside the Giants and Kamish, make sure to find anyone still here..people hiding in buildings, under rubble, wherever. Lead them to safety. I don't care if you have to drag them, lift them, or carry them on Kamish's back. They cannot be allowed to fall into the fight. Every life here matters; otherwise, this is pointless and we will be adding them to the ranks of the black lanterns."
Ultra, one of the Marshalls, tilted his head, his glowing violet eyes focused on the presence of civilians in nearby buildings. "My king… won't they fear us as well?"
Arthur let out a measured sigh, the weight of his command evident in the way his shoulders squared. "Drag them by force if necessary. Do whatever it takes to get them to safety. That is your mission."
He turned his gaze toward Tusk, who had begun swirling his orb in preparation. "Incinerate the Black Lanterns. The Shadow Lanterns will finish the job. Make this simple for them."
The High Orc shaman's deep voice resonated through the battlefield. "At once, my king." With a roar, he unleashed torrents of fire, incinerating the nearest wave of Black Lanterns while the shadow constructs swooped in.
Arthur allowed himself a moment of calm, closing his eyes to sense the energies around him. "Okay… this is settled. All that remains is to find the bastard responsible."
Martian Manhunter hovered nearby, his cape fluttering against the gusts of chaos. He watched the combined might of Arthur and his shadow army, awe coloring his voice. "Looking at him… and that army… the Black Lanterns don't seem so terrifying anymore."
Diana, standing beside him with her sword at the ready, followed his gaze and nodded. "He is on our side, J'onn. That's all that matters."
J'onn's eyes lingered on Arthur for a long moment before he nodded slowly, acknowledging the truth in Diana's words. "I didn't say otherwise," he replied, voice low, tinged with admiration.
The battlefield's tension shifted perceptibly. Even in the face of unrelenting death, he was a new force disciplined, terrifying, and absolute.
From a distance Raven's eyes lingered on Arthur for a heartbeat too long, her face warming under the glow of the battle around them. For a fleeting moment, she forgot the chaos the Black Lanterns advancing, the screaming, the crackle of energy in the air. Her focus wavered, and she hardly noticed a Black Lantern lunging toward her from the side.
Before she could react, a blur of red and blue slammed into the creature, shattering its skull against the ground. Kara hovered above, cape fluttering in the smoky wind. "Careful, Raven! This is no time to be distracted!" she warned, voice sharp but tinged with amusement.
Raven blinked, startled, cheeks flushing as she muttered, "Uh… sorry, I"
Kara's gaze flicked toward where Raven had been staring, and a knowing smirk spread across her face. "Oh, I see now… there's plenty of time for that later," she teased, her tone light but teasingly sharp, making Raven's embarrassment deepen.
Raven tore her gaze away, but it was too late her mind had been caught, off guard by admiration she hadn't expected to feel even in this situation. The Black Lantern she had almost ignored began to re-form its head, stitching together its broken visage with an eerie, unnatural grace.
Kara clapped her hands once, snapping Raven back into action. "Focus, Raven! Now use Arthur's gift and smash his ring!"
Raven exhaled, a wave of determination washing over her, violet energy swirling from the ring Arthur had given her. She raised her hand, channeling the darkness into a clawing, concentrated beam of black and violet energy that struck the Black Lantern's ring directly. The ring cracked, spiderwebbing in glowing fractures until it shattered entirely.
The Black Lantern's head and body collapsed in a heap, finally defeated. Kara's grin widened as she hovered closer. "Atta girl," she said, voice approving, before adding with a playful nudge in her tone, "and there's plenty more where that came from. Let's go."
Raven adjusted her stance, the glow of her own ring now a steady, controlled pulse. Her face still tinged with pink, but she nodded, letting her focus sharpen. Together, they surged forward into the fray, ready to dismantle the Black Lanterns one ring at a time.
Arthur's boots pressed lightly against the cracked street as the echoes of battle rumbled around him. His eyes were closed, his breathing steady amidst the chaos. The world around him dimmed; the clamor of the Black Lanterns, the faint cries of survivors, even the clash of his own shadow army faded into a low sound. His senses stretched outward, past the buildings, past the smoldering horizon, trying to pinpoint the Herald of Nekron.
Yet something else grabbed his attention, there it was. A flicker. A pulse in the void of space.
Arthur's eyes snapped open, a faint violet glow lingering in them as his lips curved into a wry line. "So that's where you are, Jordan…" he muttered under his breath, voice low enough to be carried away by the wind. "I'm gonna let you have this fight on your own."
Far from Earth, in the cold silence of space, a green light flared like a beacon against the stars. Hal Jordan floated in its glow, jaw set, ring pulsing in his clenched fist. Across from him drifted a figure he never thought he'd see again, not like this.
"Abin…?" Hal's voice cracked, disbelief laced with a fury he hadn't felt in years. His predecessor stood before him, but the warmth that once defined him was gone. Abin Sur's form was pale and rotting, eyes hollowed with the black void of death, his once proud Green Lantern emblem now corrupted, twisted into the sigil of the Black Lantern Corps.
The corpse spoke, its voice a ghastly echo of the man Hal remembered. "Hal Jordan… my successor. You carry the light I once bore. And now… you will join me in the dark."
Hal's teeth clenched, a growl rising in his throat. "No," he spat, emerald energy surging around his frame. "You're not him. Abin Sur died a hero; he is the reason why I'm standing here wearing this ring. You… you're just a puppet. A corpse wearing his face."
The Black Lantern tilted his head, a cruel smile tugging at the edges of his mouth. "Hero? I died screaming, Hal. I died consumed in fear… alone. And now I see clearly. There is no light that lasts forever. There is only death."
Hal's fists tightened, green light flaring brighter, cutting through the darkness of space. "I don't care what lies that ring is whispering into your rotten skull. I'm not letting it drag your name through the dirt. I owe you better than that."
Abin Sur lunged, black tendrils of necrotic energy whipping through the void, colliding with Hal's emerald constructs. Sparks of green and black scattered like falling stars.
Hal gritted his teeth, pushing back with a surge of raw willpower. "Before you died, you taught me to never give in to fear, remember? To fight even when the odds are impossible. And to honor this ring!"
