The stench of the sewers was intense
Kael suppressed a gag. "This is the perfect place to stay.
Elysia peered over his shoulder, her nose wrinkling. "Smells like death."
"Better to smell it than be it," Ronin muttered, clutching his side.
Lucian nodded, his face contorted with disgust. "There are probably hundreds of diseases in these waters. Don't let any of it get in your mouth, or we'll be goners for sure."
The rest of the group descended the rusted ladder, their boots splashing into the ankle deep water.
The air was colder down here, and Kael shivered. The tunnel stretched in either direction, ending in darkness. Its curved black walls were slick with moss and grime. Dripping pipes protruded at intervals, the liquid substance adding to the sluggish flow.
One by one, the others joined him, peering through the tunnel illuminated only by Kael himself.
"I feel like a torch," he mumbled, and Elysia smirked. But he couldn't control it. The gem wanted to illuminate the area.
