Chapter 348 - Zobae Disease

Larry had always thought the Association's dark room was the most powerful space he'd ever encountered, but he hadn't expected the Ferry Hall to surpass it.

For a moment, he couldn't quite figure out what kind of Pokemon would come from here.

However, he was fairly certain of one thing: this Pokemon was probably of a type he'd never encountered before, a truly unique existence among all Pokemon types.

After a while, Porygon Z still hadn't found the information room, but instead, it discovered a storage area in the Ferry Hall's basement, dedicated to victims of the Dark Continent.

This basement was used specifically to keep those affected by the so-called Five Disasters, including people who had returned from the Dark Continent as well as those who had come into contact with it.

While Porygon Z continued its search, Larry decided to check out the basement himself.

The moment he arrived, he was struck by the sight of numerous bottles and jars lining the corners of the room.

Nearby, a few soldiers dressed in astronaut-like suits stood guard.

Their role was different from the soldiers stationed at the entrance; while those guards prevented unauthorized access, these soldiers were tasked with monitoring any unusual movements within the basement itself.

If the Ferry Hall was the most important place in V5, then this basement was definitely its heart.

It housed countless items related to the Dark Continent, making it even more secure and difficult to access.

Entry was only possible by elevator, and required palm prints from a select few authorized individuals to unlock.

But Larry didn't need to go through all that trouble; with just a thought, he could instantly appear right inside the basement.

Even the soldiers, with Marshadow's help, chose to turn a blind eye to what was happening.

The place resembled a biological lab, filled with transparent containers soaked in an unknown green liquid.

This liquid gave the originally white room an eerie greenish glow.

Larry guessed the liquid was something like formalin, used to preserve specimens.

Inside these containers were some truly bizarre sights, human bodies twisted in unnatural ways, their faces frozen in expressions resembling the famous painting 'The Scream'.

Larry noticed a small card beneath one of the containers.

Though tiny, it held important information.

The person inside was named "Brutus," one of the few who had survived a trip to the Dark Continent.

At the time, he was the strongest member of his team, ranking first, and likely an S-level fighter.

But now, he was reduced to this horrifying state.

The card also suggested a possible cause of death: the 'human-raising beast' Pap.

It explained that twisting a human body into such a shape by brute force would be impossible. The human body isn't dough, after all, and isn't flexible enough to contort like that.

So, the Ferry Department suspected Pap was responsible, though no concrete proof existed.

Perhaps Brutus's strength or other factors played a role in his condition after returning to the Six Continents.

Next to Brutus were several other twisted corpses.

Compared to Brutus, these were even more deformed, completely contorted without any recognizable faces.

Their identities differed from Brutus's; they weren't explorers from the Dark Continent.

Larry recalled reading that many people.

...had suddenly transformed into twisted forms in public, often their relatives among the victims. Some witnesses were police officers or doctors, lending credibility to these accounts.

This meant there was a hidden "disaster" the Ferry Office hadn't uncovered yet, still lurking somewhere across the Six Continents.

For example, Ai that Larry had previously encountered were found before V5 even discovered them, which indirectly confirms V5's fears.

If humans keep pushing toward the Dark Continent like this, the danger across the six continents will only increase.

On the other side of the "twisted dough," there was a device even bigger than before. It was so large, in fact, that it contained an entire person inside.

Unlike the other devices filled with bright liquids, this one held just a single living person.

This individual looked like a primitive man from ancient times, with hair wild and unkempt like weeds.

Compared to this "wild man," Ging suddenly seemed much clearer and could almost be called "well-dressed."

Besides being disheveled, the man was also filled with intense dark thoughts, almost like the presence of death itself.

His whole body was covered in a black, blurry aura, with only his wide-open eyes shining brightly, making him even more terrifying.

Larry had only seen a similar appearance once before, on the Dark Sonata!

But unlike the Dark Sonata's influence, this person wasn't transformed by that; instead, he was suffering from a disease native to the Dark Continent called the "Immortal Disease" Zobaai, one of the five major disasters.

According to the records on the card, this man had been in this state for fifty years with no change in appearance.

Unlike normal humans, he didn't need to eat or perform any activities to survive, he could live forever just by staying inside the device.

His lifestyle was "self-sufficient": he could sustain himself by consuming his own blood or flesh, defying human common sense.

This strange ability allowed him to survive without relying on any external food source.

In fact, while the disease granted him a kind of "immortality," it also severely affected his mind, to the point where he could no longer be considered human.

That's why he was locked up.

The Ferry Office had classified this condition as a disease, naming it "Zobae Disease," and described it as an illness that deceives hope and traps people in endless despair.

Alongside these two disasters, other human corpses were displayed as well, all connected to various disasters.

Some bodies were parasitized by the plant from dark continent.

Since Larry has witnessed it firsthand, he can recognize it without needing to rely on cards.

Many of the bodies exude a strong aura of death, making it hard to even look directly at them.

The corpses beneath the clear floor reveal their true faces, and among them is the person who heard the sound of the "Hell Bells" double snake, one of the so-called "disasters."

In fact, this entire basement is filled with corpses, all humans who fell victim to these "disasters."

The only person still alive is suffering from Zobae Disease, but their state of living is almost no different from being dead.

And what's visible here is just a small glimpse of the countless dangers lurking on the Dark Continent.
