*Rowan's POV*
It's been the same since the day I arrived in this neighborhood.. to my new lovely home, it feels like I arrived here yesterday but in reality.. four years have passed. I still remember Hariko and she still isn't back.. guess she was serious when she said something about taking different paths "four years.. doing the exact same thing.. over and over again.. and that's the definition of insanity.. so basically I'm insane" jokes aside though, I've been working a lot and managed to get everything I wanted.. brand new furniture for my house and I'm planning on buying a car too, however I haven't thought too much about it.
This day wasn't anything special, just wake up, doing my business in the bathroom, eat something and go to work until late at night.. although I still didn't arrived at my workplace "I wonder.. what could I possibly do with my money after I buy a car? if I buy one.." not gonna lie, it's a bit hard to spend money to be honest.. or I just don't know what to do with it, except for paying the bills, for food and the furniture I didn't spend them on anything else "Maybe I should look for things that I can kill time with, maybe I should start fishing..."
I gently open the door and stepped inside, of course being greeted by my lovely.. manager "Hello there handsome, never see-" "Ma'am please... no more of your teasing" she gives me a sly smirk, throwing her hands in the air. Even after years she hasn't changed at all, she still looks the same now that I think about it... what is this woman's secret? I groan annoyed and walk past her, making my way to some kind of hangar "Jokes aside Rook.. there's something that I have to tell you about... and you should watch out for it" I stop from walking and turn to her "I'm all ears then, ma'am".
"Do you remember what I have warned you about the first time you got your job? the.. anomalies?" Oh man here we go with this company's delusions...supposedly there are strange beings that science can't explain. However I've been at this company for years and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. "One of them managed to kill ten people last night.. and that's the first time when they attacked. And killed" "I don't believe that.. is that it? I have work to do woman" she violently grabs my hand and pulls me with her forcefully "I'm sick of your nonchalance Rowan! when the fuck are you going to understand that this shouldn't be brushed off as a common scenario?!".
"If these anomalies are as dangerous why are you not closing the building down? why aren't you doing investigations?" she turned her head to me, her eye twitching lightly "As a matter of fact I haven't really seen other employers talk about it-" the manager almost slams her finger over my lips, her eyes darkening in a quiet rage "I can show you footage of the carnage that was outside of the building west from here if you don't choose to believe words. God... I really hate your stubborn ass sometimes. Now for my sanity and future in this company get back to work, after you're done report to my office" she doesn't even let me speak as she turns on her heel to walk away.
Before she turns the corner, she throws her head over her shoulder to give me a final glance "And don't worry, no anomalies have been reported today. You're safe" and with that she disappears around the corner "Alright alright.. jeez..." I would assume she wants to work on the project that this company has been at it for a good while. The manager explained to me a lot of things about the project and from what I could grasp it's some sort of scanner that scans the spiritual energy leves in an area. I'm not too sure since the terms she used to explain it barely made any sense, but her... as long as I'm being paid for it I don't really care.
*Larisa's POV*
"Hey Joseph? are you ready with that little surprise yet?" "Uh.. yeah! just be patient!" it's been quite the journey for me and to be honest.. I think it was worth it, bad things happened in my life but they're not worse than Rowan's, we planned to pay him a visit on our way to Joseph's family. It's been a while since we last seen each other and I'd say showing up unexpected might brighten up his day, or maybe not... "By the way, for who was this surprise again?" Joseph asks as he finishes wrapping a box I gave him "For your sister, duh.. girls gotta be united and all of that y'know?" "Well.. not going to argue about that one"
For the past few days I've been thinking about my pas and.. moments from my life in general, from meeting Joseph for the first time.. doing dumb things in school.. graduate.. these felt like yesterday, time passes so fast and the scary thing is that you don't even realize it.. I still remember my teacher's words, enjoy while it lasts.. you have two years left, at that time I thought that it's going to take forever for two years to pass but with a blink of an eye, I graduate and then.. never seen my classmates or teachers ever again "It's done, come on, let's pay Rowan a visit then we head off to your mom".
*Rowan's POV*
Sitting on the rooftop sure is beautiful, I like that you can go anywhere you want while you are on your break here.. this is truly the perfect job for me.. except for my boss, she's a menace to society "I think it's time to head back and help these morons build that useless prototype.. or whatever it is.." I stand up from the bench and I swear this rooftop was made only to enjoy the view that this small city has to offer, my phone buzzed and to be honest it startled me a bit, I reach for it and it was Larisa... oho, new people eh? been a good while since I last saw that crazy girl...
Before I could call her, suddenly I hear a explosion as everything began to shake a little "What the fuck just happened?" explosions are a normal thing here, but not on a scale that shakes the entire building. Looking over the edge of the rooftop there was smoke and that was the last thing I wanted, I quickly rushed to the stairs but they were already on fire "Oh for the love of God.. what has these idiots done this time?! first the report about these anomalies that no one seen before and now weird explosions?" maybe this job isn't for the faint of heart after all...
I step back as I look for a way to get out.. I lean over the edge and it was definitely a long way down. However my eyes flickered towards the gutter as if on instinct "God help me" reluctantly I positioned myself on the edge of the roof, my feet locking themselves into the gutter and my hands grasped the edge, before slowly lowering myself. The whole thing didn't collapse under my weight so I slowly started to descend.
As I was climbing down I could've already heard the sirens in the distance, glancing down I also saw people gathering at the base of the building... I'm half expecting a news van rolling in already recording me for clout. Before I could make anything else however another explosion went off somewhere within the building, this one was more powerful than the last and it shook the entire building to it's core. This caused me to lose balance as my feet slipped on the pipe "HOLY SH-" the ground was already approaching alarmingly fast, the people below either gasped or screamed. But it didn't matter, my death is inevitable at this point.
So I closed my eyes and let nature take it's course.
In a matter of seconds I felt my body stop in motion as I felt something grab me by my ankles...
