Chapter 468 - HP: Wizardry’s a Hassle-Chapter 197: Driving

"VROOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!"

The engine's savage roar shook outward in all directions. The explosive force of the Obscurus bursting from his body instantly accelerated the motorcycle to an unimaginable speed, shooting toward the flat road that Lin Yu and the others had carved out for Glenn and Hermione like an arrow released from its bow.

The path they had come from was at a lower elevation, so under the horizontal explosive force, the motorcycle along with Glenn and Hermione on their seats was currently in a slightly airborne projectile motion.

This could minimize their kinetic energy consumption as much as possible, allowing them to maintain the motorcycle's maximum speed next.

At the front of the bike, the windshield that Glenn had alchemically reinforced for increased toughness was beginning to shake and deform constantly due to the air resistance from their extreme speed. Even so, it still effectively shielded Glenn and Hermione behind it from tremendous air resistance.

Glenn's right hand gripped the handlebar, while his left hand that had just released the Obscurus hung limply downward at an angle. If Glenn wasn't misjudging his body's condition due to the protective measures his body naturally produced under extreme pain, then all the muscles in his entire left arm had been torn apart by the violent Obscurus, and the bones wrapped inside—like the humerus in his upper arm, the ulna and radius in his forearm, and all the bones in his hand—were shattered to pieces.

To counter the blood giant's suction of surrounding magical power, Glenn had exhausted his physical strength, magical power, and self-generated Obscurus, ending up unable to move his entire body normally, with his left arm destroyed and only his right hand and everything above his neck still functioning properly.

However, relying on these remaining parts to execute his and Hermione's evacuation plan was more than sufficient.

The speed from the Obscurus explosion's thrust quickly began to decay due to air resistance. After the brief projectile motion ended, the motorcycle crashed to the ground with a thunderous impact, followed by the sound of tires scraping against the ground. Surprisingly, the motorcycle's speed began to slowly increase once again.

But the situation they faced after landing was far more perilous than when they were airborne.

"The left side is yours, Hermione."

Even though Lin Yu and the others who had evacuated first had carved out a clear, crude road for Glenn, single-handedly piloting a motorcycle traveling at high speed over rough terrain was still too risky and lacked considerable stability. So Glenn had planned from the beginning to have Hermione help him control one side of the handlebars while the motorcycle was in motion.

"Close your eyes, Hermione. Work with me."

Having finished explaining what he wanted Hermione to do, Glenn struggled to lean slightly to the right, ensuring he wouldn't fall off the bike under Hermione's one-handed support while making space for Hermione to reach forward and grip the handlebar.

Hermione could understand all of Glenn's thoughts from just those few words. She released her left hand that had been protecting Glenn, instead pressing her body closer forward, using her body to shield Glenn's left side while extending her left hand forward to grip the handlebar. Then she closed her eyes without hesitation.

She always trusted Glenn one hundred percent.

And the decisions Glenn made could always get them through difficulties.

Hermione had no driving experience, so having the girl close her eyes was the right decision.

If Hermione kept her eyes open, even with her extremely strong self-control, the girl might still cause Glenn to make mistakes in his overall control of the motorcycle due to her subjective judgment of the situation they faced at any given moment.

By blocking her vision—which could bring the most information from the outside world—Hermione could be completely unaffected by her own judgment of external things, coordinating fully with Glenn's driving solely through the force transmitted through the handlebar and the tactile sensations between her fingers and palm.

Given the understanding and coordination between the two of them, it was no exaggeration to say that Hermione was now Glenn's left hand.

The girl, relying solely on the tactile sensations in her hands, had achieved sharing one brain with Glenn.

But the real danger was just beginning.

A deafening explosion echoed across the sky, accompanied by faint, continuously echoing, incomprehensible whispers. Bloody red spread across the heavens, staining the black cloud-filled sky with an even more ominous color.

This entire world seemed to have changed color due to the blood giant's eruption.

Except it didn't seem like staining.

"This type of eruption... is the power insufficient?"

Glenn had energy to spare and took a moment to glance through the rearview mirror at the world behind them.

The massive explosion he had anticipated didn't come. Instead, what fell from the high heavens was a bloody red tsunami like a volcanic eruption:

Streams of corrosive blood water radiating high temperature fell from the nine heavens, transforming into waves that swept across the sky and earth, crashing against the ground and rapidly surging in all directions.

Like an avalanche, like a mudslide, but faster than either of those, with consequences far more dire.

Wherever it passed, everything was corroded and turned to dust, leaving no trace of having ever existed in this world.

It was predictable that if swallowed by this blood tide, whether person or vehicle, nothing would remain.

The surrounding scenery flashed by as they sped backward. Glenn and Hermione's current speed had climbed to the limit of what the motorcycle beneath them could achieve. Even so, facing the surging tide, all they could do was maintain a certain distance from it and slowly pull ahead with their slight speed advantage.

So they couldn't slow down.

Once they slowed down, all that awaited them would be a slow death.

However, in Glenn's mind, the situation they currently faced wasn't too difficult yet, because he could already see that the road ahead would pass through a small valley.

"Hermione, lift the motorcycle, give it an upward force."

After Glenn calculated and reached the position he had determined, he immediately shouted to Hermione.

Without hesitation, Hermione's body dropped down, then suddenly surged upward.

Coordinating with this, Glenn yanked the front wheel up with his right hand, and Hermione's left hand exerted force along with him.

But relying solely on their combined upward force at this moment wasn't enough to ensure a successful landing.

So Glenn pressed the small button below the right handlebar.

"BOOM!"

A roar sounded from behind the bike. The acceleration device on the motorcycle activated, instantly boosting the engine's power up another level as flames burst from the bike's tail.

Thus, after the motorcycle traveled over the small slope Glenn had targeted, both riders and bike took off again, soaring through the air at high speed toward the opposite side of the small valley.

"BOOM!!"

Pressing the second button again, the jet nozzle installed at the bike's tail erupted with a blast of hot air, adding another powerful thrust to the motorcycle leaping across the valley in mid-air.
