But reality didn't unfold as smoothly as Glenn and Hermione had imagined.
Glenn's Killing Curse did indeed hit the blood giant's head, but that was all it did. The creature didn't lose its ability to move—instead, feeling an itch on its head, it turned around and discovered Glenn behind it. The blood giant, which wouldn't allow any living thing to approach, naturally swung a massive palm strike at him.
"So this thing no longer has a soul."
Glenn reached his conclusion, confirming the information he'd wanted to obtain.
Then he vanished into thin air. The blood giant's palm whooshed past where he'd just been standing, stirring up waves of air pressure.
Though the bloody palm strike came fast, Glenn still quickly and easily dodged the overwhelming attack through Apparition.
With a soft pop, he reappeared beside Hermione, extending his wand as he took his position.
"No effect?"
Hermione temporarily let her Fiendfyre lion rampage and improvise on its own while turning her head toward Glenn with this question.
Glenn shook his head, his black eyes showing neither sorrow nor joy, thinking about something unknown. He stated with certainty:
"No effect. This thing no longer has a soul. They're still continuing to grow—this isn't sustainable. Their recovery speed is fast. If we keep this stalemate going, our magical power will be depleted first. We need to find a breakthrough point."
"Ah, Glenn, Hermione, found you."
Dark purple lightning flashed, followed by a familiar voice. Lin Yu suddenly appeared behind the two, greeting them as casually as always.
Since Hermione had to control and direct her Fiendfyre in combat with the blood giant, she didn't turn around. Glenn, who wasn't currently casting spells, turned to look at Lin Yu.
On his shoulder, he was carrying what looked like a person.
Without asking how the two had escaped the dark wizards' clutches like others might, Lin Yu cut straight to the point, directing his words toward the monster they were currently facing:
"Regarding the 'time' problem you're worried about, Glenn, there's actually no need to worry. This thing won't keep getting stronger as time passes."
"When its power reaches a certain peak, it will rapidly weaken. So what we need to do now is buy time."
Lin Yu had obviously heard Glenn and Hermione's earlier conversation and directly stated his assessment.
Glenn didn't ask questions aloud but waited for Lin Yu to continue, and the latter proceeded to explain his reasoning.
"Currently, we can roughly confirm that the dark wizard leader's transformation is because he used some kind of sacrificial dark magic, and this is very likely connected to certain cults... Well, Glenn, you probably don't understand what I mean by cults, so I'll skip that. You just need to know that the power enhancement gained by sacrificers through such methods can't be maintained for long, and they'll even suffer severe backlash after the amplification period ends."
"This guy thinks he's clever—not only did he recklessly use sacrificial techniques connected to certain cults, he even wanted to turn around and scheme against the ominous existence he summoned... There are quite a few such fools in the world."
Lin Yu shook his head helplessly at this. He'd witnessed such situations many times—self-proclaimed clever individuals who violated cult ritual contracts, trying to seize certain things, but ultimately couldn't escape the fate of death and destruction. Unfortunately, these madmen hiding in the world's shadowy corners wouldn't learn from others' tragic ends. For survival, for desire, one after another stepped onto a path destined to end in backlash and death.
They always believed they were the most special people in the world, that certain things others couldn't accomplish would surely succeed when done by themselves, achieving the results they wanted.
But was the world really like this? Would it stop functioning if it lacked one particular person?
Obviously not.
Pitiful and laughable.
What was even more detestable was that these fools and madmen weren't satisfied with just throwing away their own lives—they also used inflammatory speeches and empty promises of false futures to bewitch other fools into accompanying them to their deaths.
How many innocent people would be implicated in this process? How many families would be torn apart and left homeless?
Anyway, whenever he caught anyone connected to cults, he would kill them without mercy.
"Sacrificial techniques can obtain powerful force from certain evil existences, but this is ultimately just external power. The strength is only temporary—it comes quickly and goes quickly too. Once the power expansion within their body ends, this trouble will be resolved."
"So Glenn, you should also know the technique Hermione is currently using, right?"
Lin Yu pointed up at the mighty Fiendfyre lion in the sky, asking Glenn this question.
"Waiting for it to weaken is certainly the right thing to do, but methods like yours that can drastically reduce its power from the source are still better in greater numbers—this can also accelerate that guy's death."
"So get to it, Glenn! Let's perfectly resolve this incident!"
Seeing through his cousin's intention to simply get off work early, Glenn still cast Fiendfyre toward the sky. As someone residing in the Dragon Kingdom and a member of both the Dragon Kingdom's magical school and official organization, Lin Yu undoubtedly knew far more information about dark wizard problems than he and Hermione did. And judging by his tone, Lin Yu had obviously dealt with many similar things before.
Specialization had its advantages—he should just follow the expert's lead.
A dark red Fiendfyre serpent shot skyward, twisting to avoid the blood giant closer to them that was entangled with Hermione's Fiendfyre lion, instead pouncing toward the more distant target locked in fierce battle with the flying papers filling the sky.
The reason Fiendfyre was such powerful and terrifying magic was because it could make its devouring ability stronger by consuming all combustible materials around it. In this battlefield that now had only dirt remaining, there were many suitable combustible materials.
Namely, those strange origami papers dancing in the air.
This was probably their supervising teacher's attack method.
Well then... to resolve things faster, he'd borrow these origami papers from the teacher for a moment.
To achieve his goals, Glenn would use any means necessary, and besides, the things being consumed weren't even his own—though he wouldn't feel bad even if they were his own things.
And those things looked like nothing more than ordinary origami papers anyway.
"Whoosh!"
The highly combustible papers filling the sky immediately disappeared under the Fiendfyre serpent's devouring.
Lin Yu seemed to hear the sound of Wanqi Zhuo's heart breaking.
"Never mind, let Glenn do as he pleases."
