Chapter 296 - HP: Wizardry’s a Hassle, Wand-Chapter 25: The Wonders of Arithmancy

"...And that concludes today's lesson. Your homework is to extract your personality number, soul number, and social number from your own names."

Professor Victor, the Arithmancy instructor, brought the young witches and wizards' first Arithmancy class to a close.

Most students left feeling dizzy and overwhelmed, their minds stuffed with a bewildering array of numbers that left them feeling quite muddled.

Glenn and Hermione, however, were exceptions.

"...Excluding middle names and converting to numbers, my name becomes 859496557915759..."

As students rose to head to their next classroom, Hermione walked alongside Glenn, her Arithmancy textbook spread open in her hands as she muttered quietly to herself.

"...So my personality number is 4, my soul number is also 4, and my social number is 9!"

"Wow! Glenn, my three numbers are exactly the same as Grandpa Nicolas's!"

(P.S. Nicolas Flamel's personality, soul, and social numbers really are 4, 4, and 9—I found this from an online Arithmancy example that used his name as a case study.)

"So I represent diligent work, I'm very practical and results-oriented, and people find me trustworthy."

"I enjoy logical thinking and reasoning, dislike illusions, and have strong organizational skills that ensure work gets completed smoothly."

"My behavioral patterns follow a set routine, making me quite predictable. I can be stubborn and suspicious, and sometimes people think I'm too focused on results..."

"That's the interpretation for '4.' Next up..."

Turning the page, Hermione continued her reading.

"9 represents completion and perfect achievement—it's the number of 'fulfillment,' being three times three."

"People with this number are willing to serve others. In the future, I might become a teacher, scientist, or humanitarian."

"I have strong willpower, work tirelessly without feeling exhausted, and often inspire others."

"But at the same time, I might be somewhat arrogant. When things don't develop according to my expectations, I could become rather self-righteous..."

"Wow, this is quite accurate! Glenn, is this how you see me?"

Hermione's eyes sparkled—she felt the descriptions were remarkably precise.

"More or less. It really does match your personality, though you've overlooked the 'frequently overexerted' aspect—that applies to both 4 and 9."

"So when I'm not around, be careful not to overwork yourself all at once, understood?"

Glenn turned to speak softly beside the girl.

"Hehe, you caught me..."

Hermione laughed sheepishly, averting her gaze with a hint of guilt.

"Ah... ah! What about your interpretation? Come on, tell me!"

"Your topic change is rather obvious. You still haven't given me an answer."

"...Oh fine, I know, I know! I promise, okay?"

Hermione pouted pitifully. As both a top student and a notorious overachiever, she did sometimes push herself to exhaustion. Glenn regularly reminded her to rest, but she'd always mumble and laugh it off to avoid the issue. It wasn't easy for Glenn to finally catch a suitable moment to make her face his concerns directly.

Well, since she'd promised, she'd try to rest a bit more.

Just... just a little bit more rest, that's all...

Glenn gently patted Hermione's slightly lowered head—she'd ducked it in embarrassment—and didn't press further, instead answering her question.

"My name converts to 7355815286955, so my personality number is 6, soul number is 8, and social number is 7."

"6 represents harmonious family values. People with this number are loyal, responsible, and caring—willing to sacrifice everything to protect their families."

"They adapt well to their environment, quickly adjusting to their surroundings regardless of circumstances."

"8 represents success in achieving goals. People with this number are very practical, ambitious, willing to take responsibility, and work hard to reach their objectives at any cost."

"7 represents strong cognitive ability, intelligence, and exceptional talent. People with this number enjoy hard work and challenges."

"They're usually serious and scholarly, interested in all mysterious things. For them, originality and imagination are far more attractive than money and wealth, though they may also tend toward pessimism and insecurity..."

Hermione flipped through her book, reading out the meanings corresponding to Glenn's numbers.

"I have to say, this is remarkably accurate."

Hermione poked Glenn as she spoke.

"So you don't need to shoulder everything alone. I'll bear your burdens alongside you."

"You need to rely on me more."

"So, did you hear me?"

Hermione smiled mischievously, using her hands to turn Glenn's face toward her, making the somewhat guilty-looking boy meet her gaze.

"...Naturally, I'll do just that. You already help me tremendously."

Glenn fell silent for a moment before responding.

"Not enough, not—quite—enough—"

Hermione squeezed Glenn's cheeks, her tone carrying a hint of playful resentment.

"Even though you won't say it and I won't ask, I know you're still keeping some things and secrets from me. You talk about sharing pressure and burdens with me, but the weight you actually give me doesn't match what I truly deserve."

Glenn remained silent—because Hermione was absolutely right.

"But you must have your reasons. As your girlfriend, I support you and won't try to force you to change your mind."

"Perhaps my current strength isn't sufficient to handle the parts you're hiding from me. So I'll wait for you to tell me yourself. Until then, let me work hard to grow to your level."

Hermione released Glenn's face and embraced him tenderly.

"Even if my strength isn't enough now, you can still act spoiled in my arms. I can help relieve the pressure in your heart."

"For now, the front lines are your battlefield, so leave your back to me."

Glenn remained wordless, only tightening his embrace slightly and gently stroking her hair.

He had to admit, Hermione was indeed a perceptive girl. Glenn felt as though she could see right through him completely.

Being seen through was fine—Glenn hadn't deliberately hidden anything from Hermione. If she wanted to ask, he would naturally answer seriously.

But Hermione hadn't done that. Instead, she chose to trust him.

This sent a strange warmth flowing through Glenn.

It felt wonderfully comforting.

"But even so, I won't forget your promise not to overwork yourself."

"..."

"...You bring that up now, in this atmosphere?"
