What if Alric found out that he wasn't noble by blood at all?
Yes. That was something Silas should be thinking about too, rather than acting like some teenager who had only just discovered love and was now living inside his own delusions. He needed to be more realistic about things.
Hoping that someone like Alric would fall in love with him was like a beggar waiting for gold to rain from the sky. It was simply impossible.
The longer Silas stayed here, the greater the chance that he would eventually be found out. He needed to fulfill the duty stated in their agreement as soon as possible, and once he became pregnant and gave birth, he would leave this place immediately. He did not want to stay long enough to witness Alric marrying his future duchess; if he lingered here any longer, he was afraid the pain would only become worse.
The small plastic packet containing the fine herbal powder his father had given him was clenched tightly in Silas's hand inside his pocket.
