"Do you really think you've already won?"
Seeing that Gabriel's fighting spirit remained unbroken, Pat had nothing more to say. Battle was the only answer.
From within its Poké Ball, that familiar Scyther emerged onto the battlefield. Its composed yet powerful presence had appeared in Gabriel's dreams countless times. But now, it was time to face it head-on.
Gabriel placed Dratini onto the battlefield, staring calmly at the Scyther before him.
"You're strong, but this time, I have to win."
Pat looked at Gabriel with a hint of regret, but Gabriel remained silent, his gaze fixed on Scyther. In the next moment, he had already positioned himself behind Little Mu—an instinct honed from watching countless battle recordings.
The battle began. Scyther vanished from sight in an instant, and when it reappeared, its razor-sharp scythe was already slicing toward Dratini's neck.
It was over. Pat closed his eyes—no one had ever withstood Scyther's attack.
"Dratini, Dynamax!"
With a thunderous boom, a massive shockwave swept across the battlefield, nearly knocking Pat off his feet. The gusts were so fierce they felt like a passing typhoon.
The audience fell silent—not in excitement, but in sheer terror. Screams of shock echoed throughout the stadium.
What had they just witnessed?
Pat, startled, opened his eyes. Before him stood an enormous blue wall.
No, not a wall—it was the belly of a colossal Dratini!
Stiffly, Pat lifted his gaze, his mind going blank as he stared at the towering figure of Dratini.
What was going on? This wasn't part of the plan!
Even Roland, unable to remain seated, appeared on the battlefield, his expression grave as he stared at Gabriel.
"Explain this."
"Dynamax, Dean Roland. This is my trump card, the result of our training. Dratini can harness a portion of Dynamax energy—this is my confidence in this battle."
Roland scrutinized the gigantic Dratini before turning his stern gaze back to Gabriel.
"Are you sure this Dratini is under your control?"
"Of course. Dratini, greet Dean Roland."
"Muu!" (Hello, old man!)
Upon hearing Gabriel's words, Dratini lowered its head and chirped playfully into Roland's ear.
Roland took a deep breath.
This situation was indeed unexpected, but Dynamax energy was technically a tool—using items in battle was within the rules.
Roland gave Gabriel a long, thoughtful look. So this is the foundation of your championship ambition?
"Continue the match."
Pat, still in shock, widened his eyes at Roland. Are you seriously calling this a fair fight?!
Look at that monster's size—is this really a proper battle?!
Someone's breaking the rules, ref!
Yet, seeing the referees remain unfazed, Pat had no choice but to take a deep breath and calm himself.
"If the officials aren't calling it, then the battle must go on. Scyther, Feint!"
Scyther hesitated for a moment but ultimately obeyed Pat's command and charged forward.
"Dratini, dodge!"
Gabriel quickly commanded. Despite the intimidating Dynamax transformation, the enhancement only amplified Dratini's abilities—it didn't create an insurmountable gap. Dratini had only borrowed a fraction of Dynamax energy, and its transformation was far from complete.
In the vast stadium, the now-gigantic Dratini maneuvered swiftly, taking advantage of the large space to evade Scyther's attack.
Seeing this, Pat regained some composure. Perhaps he still had a chance.
Then he paused. Wait, since when did I start thinking I would lose?
As Pat collected his thoughts, Gabriel seized the moment to strike back.
"Dratini, use Thunder Wave—cover the entire field!"
With its Dynamax enhancement, Dratini's attack range expanded significantly. A massive wave of static electricity surged across the battlefield, forcing even the lightning-fast Scyther to halt as it struggled against the paralysis.
Pat could hardly believe what he was seeing. Isn't this basically Electric Terrain?!
"Now, Dratini—use Dragon Tail!"
Dratini's enormous tail swung with tremendous force toward the immobilized Scyther, which had no way to dodge.
"Use Protect! Scyther, hold on!"
The defensive move held strong, shielding Scyther from the impact of the massive Dragon Tail.
"Scyther, use Agility!"
They couldn't afford to get hit again. Even Scyther wouldn't emerge unscathed from another direct strike.
Upon receiving Pat's command, Scyther's speed skyrocketed, vanishing completely from Gabriel's sight.
"Dratini, surround yourself with Twister!"
A fierce whirlwind enveloped the gigantic Dratini, forming a barrier of raging winds. If Scyther wanted to land an attack, it would have to break through the violent vortex first.
Dynamax had also amplified the power of Dratini's Twister, making it too risky for Scyther to charge in recklessly. If it got too close, it would not only suffer from the Twister's force but also alert Dratini to its approach.
With no other choice, Scyther halted, resorting to using its wings to gradually chip away at the swirling wind barrier.
Dratini, however, wasn't about to take hits for free. It retaliated with Dragon Rage, its Dynamax-enhanced flames spreading widely enough to catch Scyther, despite its incredible speed. However, the barrage of Scyther's wing attacks was also taking its toll on Dratini—after all, its Dynamax transformation was incomplete.
The intense back-and-forth was draining both Pokémon. Scyther, naturally built for swift, decisive strikes, was ill-suited for prolonged exchanges. The prolonged fight had left it fatigued.
Watching anxiously, Pat knew he couldn't let this continue.
"Scyther, use Focus Energy!"
Scyther came to a halt, crossing its scythes before its chest as its aura began to intensify.
"Now, Dratini—Extreme Speed to interrupt!"
Dratini surged forward, its speed increasing exponentially as it shot toward Scyther.
Pat smirked. This is what I was waiting for.
"Scyther, use Slash to finish it!"
Gabriel immediately realized he had fallen into Pat's trap. But the outcome was still uncertain!
"Dratini—decide it now! Use Dragon Rush!"
Blue flames engulfed Dratini's body as it charged headfirst into Scyther's scything blades. Both Pokémon collided with incredible force, and in the end, both collapsed onto the battlefield.
Dratini's Dynamax form dissipated, returning it to its normal size.
"Who won?!"
Roland swallowed hard, his gaze locked onto the battlefield.
