Chapter 4 - Dai

Using the map now, Reon found out that he was in a specific district of Akram called Krist. The closest village to his position, Crux, was close by.

It didn't take long for Reon to find his way out of the woods. He walked on a pathway now over to the top of a tall hill, once over it, he came upon a large village.

As Reon approached the entrance of the gate he saw a tall, muscular figure of a man, he had long spiky white hair and a great sword on his back.

Once he got closer he saw the man wore what looked almost like a helmet but only covered the sides of his face and jaw but not the top of his head allowing his hair through.

He also wore bracers and light armor that were studded but exposed his muscular arms and abdomen.

More importantly, was the feel of this man. His gaze was cutting through the air, giving off a kind of pressure.

"That guy is an Akram warrior, just like the stories I heard, he's strong. I probably couldn't beat him!" Reon thought.

(The Muscular Man's Pov)

"There is someone approaching the gate. He looks like a teenager. Short dark twisted hair and slightly tanned skin like that of a southerner. He's carrying no weapons, just what looks like a map in his right hand, and only wearing simple clothes that can't be described as armor. Ocean blue and white in color, not one of the enemy factions color's that I recognize.

Now within 8 meters of me, I noticed a look on the boy's face as if he was contemplating something, as if for a second he considered what would happen if he attacked me, but he quickly gave up on the thought.

For a child, he has unusually keen awareness and most likely has experience in combat to go with it. He could very well be a spy. I'll gauge him before allowing him to come into my Village."

(---)

"Halt! What business do you have in my village?" The man spoke.

"Is he a guard trying to stop me from entering?" Reon thought.

"Greetings Sir. I am a traveler passing through, I came to this village to look for work, to earn money for room and board." Reon explained.

This was a common occurrence for travellers just arriving in Crux, as it was one of the safer territories in Akram, and many travellers passed through this place.

"Ah, I see, my apologies for stopping you then, you can enter." said the Guard pointing his hand toward the open gate, and making way.

Reon thought this was quite strange. Simply because the man's tone suddenly changed, did not mean the subtle pressure Reon felt from the man's cold eyes did.

"Thank you, Sir." Reon said with a smile. Walking towards the gate now, Reon was keeping his eyes towards the gate, while keeping his focus on the Guard. As he entered a 3 meter range of the Guard, it felt like time had slowed down a bit.

Just before Reon was going to step into a 2 meter range of the gate guard he suddenly stopped halfway through his step, quickly jumping back half a meter.

"This Guy! He was just about to kick me in the jaw! Why is he attacking me?" Reon thought.

"What are you doing? Why are you attacking me? Reon asserted.

"He knew what I was going to do! This kid definitely has a sense for combat." The guard thought.

"Your suspicious boy! You said you were just a traveler, but you're clearly a warrior of the south. What is your true intention here?" asked the guard.

"Like I said mister, I'm a traveler looking for work to get money. I currently have no money which I need to eat and sleep in a decent place. After that business though, my intention is to become a great warrior acknowledged by Akram." Reon smirked.

After a few seconds, a smile appeared on the guard's face.

"Ha ha ha, Oh! A warrior acknowledged by Akram? What a great goal! Ha ha ha ha ha!" The guard laughed heartily.

Reon's cheeks started to redden a bit.

"What are you laughing at, you jerk!? That is my goal, and I'll see it through!" Shouted Reon.

The guard had felt Reon's spirit when he said his goal, and realized he was telling the truth, which made him laugh heartily at the youth's goal. Not because is was silly but because there was once a time he too had such hot blooded goals! Reon had brought back some good memories of the guard.

"My name is Dai, the Guard captain of Crux. You may come into the village, for real this time." Dai spoke with a warm smile.

Reon could feel the difference, and he wondered what caused it, but he was more glad he could find work now.

"Thank you, Sir Dai, and my name is Reon!" Reon said.

"Well, a word of advice Reon." said Dai. "If that truly is your goal, you're going to face a lot of danger, so you need to get strong, very strong. I'd recommend rather than finding a regular job to apply for a position at a Warrior's Guild. That way you can earn more money than a regular job but also gain experience as a warrior."

"A warriors guild, huh? I guess that is the best option." Reon thought.

"Thanks for the advice, I won't take it lightly." Reon said with a slight bow before entering the village.

As Dai watched Reon enter the gate, he then looked toward the sky and thought to himself. "We need more young warrior's like that who have the audacity to say their dreams out loud and mean it. That is how everything changed before, and that is how everything will change again."

The Village of Crux was big and bright, it brought a sense of nostalgia to Reon, reminding him of home.

Reon found out at the village bar called "Lom's Place" that a Warrior's guild was a group where the members of the guild would take job's and leave their home base to complete quests.

There were two warriors guilds in Crux. A branch of a large guild called the Raider Corps that had several branches in different villages, as well as a small guild called the Flyer's.

Reon also found out that most of the Raider's Branch were out on a big job, hunting some creatures, and that they might not return for a month or more depending on how the job went.

"Alright, for now I'll check with the Flyer's." Reon thought to himself.

This was the best plan he had right now. To work his way up he would have to start from the bottom.
