Chapter 438: Lyra
The water is cold and clear, rushing over smooth stones as it winds through the forest. Lyra splashes through the shallows, her bare feet finding familiar footholds.
"Bet you cannot catch me!" Lyra shouts, laughing.
She darts ahead, her dark hair flying behind her. The water sprays around her ankles. The sun filters through the leaves, dappling the surface with gold.
This is her favorite place. The stream that runs along the edge of Redmoon territory. It is close enough to home that she feels safe, but far enough that it feels like an adventure.
She stops at a bend in the stream. The water pools here, deeper and slower. The mesh wall that separates Redmoon from the other packs runs along the bank, but underneath, there is a gap—wide enough for a child to squeeze through.
Lyra knows this because she has squeezed through it before. Many times.
Today, however, she is not the one crossing.
On the other side of the wall, a group of wolves is playing.
