Chapter 237
Daphne
Oh okay.
"So you're saying, you actually want to be with me?" I ask slowly, letting each word roll off my tongue.
She nods, small, hesitant, like her whole body is trying to disappear into itself.
I click my tongue. "Words, my bunny. That's how we got into this situation in the first place." I lean in, watching her ears twitch wildly.
"I don't want your nods. I want your voice. Say it."
Her hands twist in her lap, knuckles white. She looks anywhere but at me—at the rug, at the window, at the claw marks on my headboard—but not at me.
I cup her chin, tilt her face back toward mine, patient but firm. "I won't bite. Not unless you want me to." My grin flashes.
"So? Do you want me?"
Her lips part. She stammers once, twice, before finally blurting it out.
"I… I want to be with you."
The words are rushed, clumsy—and they make my heart race, jump, claw at my ribcage like it's trying to break free.
She's so cute.
