Chapter 90 - Rivals And TenTen

The training grounds were quiet that morning, the gentle rustle of leaves blending with the distant hum of the village. Team 7 gathered early, the weight of the Chūnin Exams looming over them like a distant storm. Naruto was practically vibrating with excitement, his usual boisterous energy even more pronounced as he paced in front of his teammates.

"I can't wait to show everyone what I can do! Ramen Senbon! Ramen Bombs! Maybe even Ramen Barricades! I'm gonna blow their minds!" Naruto declared, fists clenched as he grinned at the sky.

Sasuke barely spared him a glance, leaning against a tree with his arms crossed. His eyes were sharp, calculating. The recent mission in the Land of Waves had exposed his limits, and the humiliating defeat against Zabuza was still fresh in his mind. He wouldn't let that happen again. He needed to grow stronger—faster.

Sakura listened to Naruto with a small smile, though her mind was elsewhere. Her training under Raven had opened her eyes to her own weaknesses. She was no longer content to be the weak link of the team. She had resolved to learn genjutsu, and soon she would begin training under Kurenai. She would prove her worth.

Raven stood slightly apart, her gaze drifting across her teammates, though her thoughts were far from the training field. The Chūnin Exams were more than just a rite of passage. They were an arena—a stage where the future would begin to reveal itself. It was not merely about Team 7's progress. It was an opportunity. Rivals would appear, potential allies would emerge, and enemies might show their hands. Beneath her casual smirk, Raven was calculating. Planning. Watching.

The sound of footsteps interrupted her thoughts. Three figures approached through the clearing, each radiating a different kind of strength. Rock Lee, with his bowl-cut hair and gleaming eyes, practically radiated enthusiasm. Neji Hyuga moved with effortless grace, his expression cool and dismissive. Tenten followed slightly behind them, her brown eyes sharp, though they softened when she noticed Raven.

Naruto was the first to react, pointing dramatically. "Hey! Who are you guys?"

Lee stepped forward, his hand shooting into a thumbs-up pose as his teeth sparkled in the sunlight. "I am Rock Lee, the Beautiful Green Beast of Konoha! And these are my teammates, Neji and Tenten! Together, we are Team Guy!"

Naruto blinked. "Beautiful… green… what?"

Sasuke raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "You're joking, right?"

Lee's eyes locked onto Sasuke with surprising intensity. "You are an Uchiha. I have heard of your clan's power. I challenge you to a fight!"

Sasuke's eyes narrowed. "Hn. Fine."

Before anyone could protest, Lee was already in a fighting stance. Sasuke mirrored him, the tension thick in the air. Raven stepped aside, observing closely. This was exactly what she wanted. A chance to gauge Lee's strength.

The fight began. Sasuke moved first, his speed impressive by genin standards, but the moment he closed the distance, Lee vanished. A blur of green, and then a foot connected with Sasuke's side. The Uchiha was sent skidding across the ground, eyes wide with shock.

Lee did not relent. He pressed forward, his strikes precise and relentless. Sasuke blocked some, dodged others, but he was always a step behind. Every movement Lee made was refined, efficient. His taijutsu was leagues above anything Sasuke had encountered.

Raven's eyes gleamed. Lee was a weapon honed through sheer willpower. No bloodline, no special chakra—just raw effort and mastery over his body. That was the kind of strength she respected. And perhaps… something she could mold.

Sasuke attempted a Fireball Jutsu, but Lee closed the distance before he could complete the hand signs, sweeping his legs and sending him crashing into the dirt. Lee halted, his stance perfect, his breathing steady. Sasuke gritted his teeth, fists clenched as he forced himself up.

"You are skilled," Lee said, his voice sincere. "But you rely too much on your heritage. Hard work will always surpass talent."

Sasuke's pride flared, but he said nothing. He simply nodded, though his frustration was clear.

Naruto whistled. "Whoa… that guy's fast."

Tenten stepped forward, offering Sasuke a hand, though he ignored it and stood on his own. "Lee's been training since before we joined the Academy. He doesn't use ninjutsu or genjutsu—just pure taijutsu."

Raven's gaze shifted to Tenten, her interest piqued. Weapons specialist, by the looks of her. Competent. Sharp. And there was something else—potential.

"Well, that was impressive," Raven said, her tone light as she approached Tenten. "But I think you're the one I'm interested in."

Tenten blinked. "Huh?"

Raven leaned in slightly, her smile playful. "A girl who knows her weapons… I like that. Maybe you could show me some of your techniques sometime… privately."

Tenten's face turned bright red. Her hair buns twitched—visibly wiggling as if reacting to her embarrassment. She opened her mouth to respond but only managed a strangled sound.

Naruto stared. "Whoa… did your hair just… move?"

Tenten clamped her hands over her buns, mortified. "N-no! That's not—"

Raven chuckled. "Adorable."

Tenten's buns wiggled again.

Sasuke groaned, walking off without another word. Sakura stifled a laugh, while Naruto was too focused on imagining his own fight with Lee to process the scene properly.

Lee stepped beside Tenten, oblivious to her meltdown. "You are all worthy rivals. I look forward to seeing you in the exams!"

With that, Team Guy departed, though Tenten cast one last glance over her shoulder—her face still flushed, her buns betraying her every emotion with a slight tremble.

As Team 7 regrouped, Naruto jabbed a thumb at Sasuke. "Man, you got wrecked. Guess ramen power beats Uchiha power, huh?"

Sasuke shot him a glare that could kill.

Raven's mind, however, was already moving forward. Lee's strength. Neji's arrogance. Tenten's flustered charm. These exams would be more than a proving ground. They would be a crucible. And from that fire, alliances would be forged—or shattered.

That evening, Sayuri greeted Naruto at home with a grin. "So, you saw some tough opponents, huh? Good. You'll need to push your Ramen Jutsu even further. Think beyond offense. What about Ramen Barricades? Or Ramen Webbing to trap your enemies? You need versatility."

Naruto's eyes sparkled with inspiration. "Ramen Webs… that sounds awesome!"

Sayuri smirked. "Good. Now, start thinking like a shinobi."

Night settled over Konoha, but Raven did not sleep. She stood atop the Crusty Kunai, gazing at the moon. The exams were close. And with them, the future.

"We Keep Our Promises," she whispered to herself, the words of the Sisters of Virtue echoing in her heart.

The storm was coming. And Raven was ready.
