Chapter 475: The Nine-Tails' Daughter
Ino's tone was calm. "He's doing great. The teacher was just saying the other day that he misses you. Back then, you were his favorite."
The Yin-Nine-Tails scrambled away. "...Uh, I've got something to do. I'll go see him in a little while!"
Ino called out from a distance, "Stay safe! Keep a low profile, and don't get caught by any bad guys again!"
"I know, you're so noisy!"
The Yin-Nine-Tails ran off into the sunset, its tails spinning like a pinwheel. The entire fox was ecstatic. After so many years since encountering that bastard Hashirama Senju, he could finally go out and play!
Ino shook her head. Look at him, how cooped up has he been? He was just another overgrown child.
She could summon this overgrown child using the mental imprint she had left on him. With their good relationship, the Yin-Nine-Tails would likely not refuse and would surely answer her call.
Considering that Karin lacked a few life-saving trump cards, she used a Transcription Seal to seal a portion of her mental imprint into Karin's left eye. In a crisis, Karin could also use the imprint to summon the Yin-Nine-Tails.
After letting the big fox go, the two of them had another task to attend to.
In Ino's left hand was the Yin-Nine-Tails' chakra, and in her right was the Yang-Nine-Tails' chakra. The two clumps of chakra shared the same origin; if she let go, they would merge into one.
That was not what she wanted.
What was the Ten-Tails? Teacher Six Paths had explained it twice: it was the seedling of the God Tree, the origin of chakra, and the source from which all things in creation emerged.
With Ino's current abilities, you could kill her and she still wouldn't be able to create a Ten-Tails. The knowledge involved was too vast and complex.
But she could conduct a small experiment, an opportunity to observe the birth of a Ten-Tails and experience the process of creation's evolution.
For Teacher Six Paths, this was akin to an elementary school student building model airplanes or doing advanced math as an extracurricular activity. It was just that Ino's little experiment was a few billion times more advanced than a typical student's.
Ino brought the two clumps of Yin and Yang Nine-Tails chakra together. Before the two forces could fully merge, she forcefully inserted a ball of the One-Tail's chakra.
The fusion was immediately interrupted. The result was clear: they were incompatible.
Ino was not surprised. This time, a ball of rainbow-colored chakra appeared in her palm—the power of the Six Paths.
If the power of the Six Paths could split the Ten-Tails into the nine Tailed Beasts, then it could naturally merge them as well.
That process would consume a massive amount of Six Paths power, but Ino's current experiment couldn't even be called a watered-down version; it was more like a single-hair version. It wouldn't require that much power.
The chakra she had obtained from the Yin and Yang Nine-Tails was a mere drop in the bucket compared to their total power. Even so, fusing the Nine-Tails' chakra with the One-Tail's chakra and letting them take shape according to "their" own will still used up more than ten percent of the Six Paths power in her body.
Ino wanted to intervene in the process, but she didn't know how. She could only let the Six Paths power operate on its own.
They found a cave to wait in.
The process lasted for a whole day. Just as Karin was complaining about how hot she was and asking Ino to cool her down, the new Tailed Beast was born.
It was a small bundle, about the size of a house cat.
Karin, who had already taken off half her clothes, came over to look.
From its appearance, the creature Ino had made as a side project still vaguely resembled a fox. What was this? The Nine-Tails' son? Or daughter?
Ino inspected it carefully for a while but couldn't tell its gender. She lifted its tail to take a look. Well, next time I see Kurama, I'll tell him he has a daughter.
Ino took out a small ball of the Two-Tails' chakra and tried to get the Nine-Tails' daughter to continue absorbing it. After just two "bites," the little Tailed Beast threw up, its mouth full of bubbles. Through the bubbles, it conveyed a message to her: Too much, I can't eat anymore!
The fact that it could eat was a good sign. Ino wasn't in a hurry.
The little fox had just devoured a large clump of the One-Tail's chakra and had entered a wondrous stage of development. She studied it for a while and, seeing that the process was slow, left the deserted island with Karin.
The little fox looked too much like the Nine-Tails; she definitely couldn't bring it back to Konoha. So, Ino asked Karin to take care of it for the time being.
"You'll stay with this big sister for the next few days, okay?" Ino slowly pulled her finger out of the little fox's mouth. The little thing spat out a few bubbles in protest, then looked up at Karin. After seemingly thinking it over, it finally nodded.
Without a doubt, this little one also had a preference for bloodlines. Ino's aura was the most comfortable for it, and Karin's was a step down. Still, she was a survivor of the Uzumaki clan and a direct descendant of the Sage of Six Paths, so she was acceptable.
"Say goodbye to Daddy Ino," Karin said, holding the little fox's paw and waving it at Ino.
Ino: "..."
This is so weird. It's like she's my illegitimate daughter.
With Danzō successfully dealt with, everyone got something out of it. Konoha entered a new era.
Without much effort, Tsunade gained the title of advisor and officially entered the village's core leadership.
Ino also received six scapegoat points. She had to admit that the assassination of the Daimyō had been done in a hurry, and many details wouldn't stand up to scrutiny. It was only because Danzō had made too many enemies and everyone wanted him dead that they turned a blind eye to the obvious flaws in the plan.
The blame hadn't been completely shifted for Danzō's fall, and blaming it on Haku had been a total failure. Pain didn't believe for a second that the Mist Village's "man as graceful as water" could have easily stopped him. Even if he had only deployed the Tendo Path, the Mist's Haku shouldn't have been that strong. If the Mist Village was so powerful, would they have been dominated by Konoha for so long?
Ino used four points to max out her Ice Release, saving the remaining two for Fire Release and, later, Boil Release.
With Danzō kicked out of the way, Ino's other "homework," the Nine-Rank System, also entered a new phase.
The new system and the unification of the ninja world were two sides of the same coin. Purely military means couldn't solve the problem of the five great villages standing in opposition; it was a result of time, geography, and culture.
By creating more benefits and showing ninja from other villages that joining Konoha was advantageous, they would naturally join the new order.
Both the stick and the carrot had to be prepared.
Ino's plan was divided into internal and external parts. Internally, she would use the new system to unite everyone she could. Externally, she would adopt Zuo Lengchan's strategy of merging the Five Mountain Sword Sects.
First, form an alliance of the five great villages. Then, gradually create trouble for the allies. Finally, with the approval of the majority of ninja, they would hold a martial arts tournament. The winner would hold the real power.
The external threat was easy to handle. Just as Zuo Lengchan had to face Shaolin and Wudang, the ninja world now had to face Akatsuki and the Kara Organization. The group of pretty boys could be defaulted to Shaolin, and Jigen, who had lived for thousands of years, could be labeled as Wudang. Once these threats were laid bare, the other four great villages would have no reason to refuse the alliance.
