Chapter 407: Konohamaru Arrives at the Eastern Front
Ino explained, "Actually, the Flying Thunder God can be broken down into three areas of training. First, perception. Without at least a basic level of perception, it's impossible to sense the Flying Thunder God markers. Second, superb Body Flicker Technique. And finally, a strong sense of spatial awareness and neural reaction speed."
The Yang-Kurama shook his head directly. The three conditions you mentioned, I can tell you with certainty, Naruto possesses none of them!
"It's always worth a try. After all, Naruto is Master Minato's son. Maybe, possibly, perhaps, there might be a tiny bit of genetic information about the Flying Thunder God in his bloodline?" Ino could only try to persuade the two "people" this way.
Ashura and the Yang-Kurama were both skeptical, but in the end, the two "people" agreed to cooperate.
A quarter of an hour later, Naruto rubbed his head and woke up.
Ino blamed the Nine-Tails, saying that his chakra had gone rampant, which was why he had fainted.
The Nine-Tails had been having periodic fits since he was a child. After so many years, Naruto was used to it and didn't think there was a problem.
Moving on from that topic, the Flying Thunder God lesson officially began.
To use the Flying Thunder God, one must have basic perception abilities.
The Second Hokage and Ino both had powerful perception.
Minato Namikaze also possessed considerable perception, but his achievements in other areas were so dazzling that people subconsciously overlooked his ability in this aspect.
Tsunade had the most basic perception. She had practiced the Senju clan's sensory ninjutsu as a child, but her talent in this area was average, and she didn't develop it further after she became famous.
Kakashi's family didn't have this kind of sensory ninjutsu, but his Mangekyo-level ocular power and the spatial properties of Kamui allowed him to accurately perceive his own Flying Thunder God markers.
Naruto... Naruto's perception in Sage Mode was very strong, much stronger than the perception of others in Sage Mode.
This indicated that he had some talent in this area, but it was usually interfered with by the Nine-Tails and the other chaotic tenants in his body.
Now, Ino had only one request for Ashura and the Yang-Kurama: stay "home" and keep quiet.
One sensory ninjutsu and one Body Flicker Technique—that was her teaching task for the day.
She explained it seventeen or eighteen times, even using the Mind-Body Disturbance Technique to guide Naruto's chakra through the process several times, but he still didn't understand what sensory ninjutsu was. He had no concept of it in his mind.
However, with the Yang-Kurama not causing trouble, and just before Ino was about to have a breakdown, Naruto finally managed to master the basics of the Body Flicker Technique.
Ino felt she was truly amazing!
Teaching Naruto was more exhausting than fighting the Two-Tails and Eight-Tails for a whole day.
She felt she had done right by her Master Minato and the spirit water from Jiraiya.
On the morning of the fifth day of her return to the village, Jiraiya came back.
His appearance had changed slightly.
Previously, Jiraiya carried his large sealing scroll on his back, which contained many of his weapons, a tent, food, and his writing tools.
Now, the large scroll on his back had been replaced by a large red gourd.
Ino's eyes lit up. This gourd was all too familiar to her. Wasn't this the Crimson Gourd? It just seemed a bit larger than before.
Thinking about Jiraiya's trip to Mount Myoboku, she guessed what had happened. Danzo had given the Crimson Gourd to Jiraiya, and Jiraiya, not knowing how to use it, had sought help from Mount Myoboku.
It seemed those frogs had some skills. Just as Ashura had taught her how to use the Seven-Star Sword, they had also helped Jiraiya unlock the hidden functions of this treasured tool.
Jiraiya didn't mention the gourd, and Ino didn't ask. She told him about teaching Naruto sensory ninjutsu and the Body Flicker Technique, and that he had now learned the Body Flicker. Jiraiya was very happy and immediately gave her all of the nearly 300 pounds of spirit water.
This was all there was. The many frogs at Mount Myoboku also needed spirit water for their training.
Both sides were very satisfied.
Ino bid farewell to Jiraiya and Naruto and returned to the eastern front with three hundred ninja, including Konohamaru and his two young friends.
She was very busy now and couldn't possibly teach them step-by-step. If Konohamaru and the others had any questions, they were to save them up and ask all at once. After answering, she would continue to let them learn on their own.
Upon returning to the eastern front, Ino handed the three young ones over to Shikamaru for arrangements. She didn't expect them to go into battle and kill enemies; it was enough for them to get used to the atmosphere of the battlefield.
Shikamaru was incredibly busy and immediately handed the three over to Choji. Choji didn't know how to arrange them either, so he handed them over to the deputy head of logistics, Tonton...
And so, the three young ones began to bustle around the camp with Tonton.
When Shizune saw this, she scolded the sixteenth generation of the Ino-Shika-Cho, including Ino. "You are all so irresponsible! Our Tonton is still a child! As a hardworking and uncomplaining pet pig, she has to train genin for you?! Are you even human?"
When Tsunade heard about this, she laughed until she was bent over. Subsequently, the three children were assigned to Iruka's temporary care.
They couldn't follow Ino. Ino was a big tree that attracted the wind; it was too dangerous to be around her. If the Two-Tails or Eight-Tails happened to attack, the aftershock of the battle would be enough to kill the three of them.
Following Iruka was the most convenient. It was inconspicuous, and if they encountered danger, they could rescue each other.
Iruka was indeed very serious and responsible.
He immediately took the three to get their equipment.
Ninja were not soldiers in the traditional sense. There were no infantry phalanxes on the battlefield, no distinct banners, no left or right wings. When the fighting really started, it was a chaotic mess, with enemies and allies intermingled. Everyone had to find their own opponent. In a way, it was more like a brawl between martial arts sects. For this reason, everyone had to prepare a large amount of weapons and equipment.
The equipment that genin usually prepared was simply not enough, at least not for a battlefield like the eastern front.
Iruka took them to seven tents, walking from the south camp to the west camp, before they finally gathered all the necessary equipment.
Konohamaru would occasionally pick up an item and ask about it.
"Iruka-sensei, is this an ointment for burns?"
Iruka explained, "The Two-Tails of the Cloud Village has eerie blue demonic patterns on its body. If that stuff touches your skin, it will cause burns. This ointment is very effective."
"What about these goggles?"
"The enemy is skilled in using Lightning Release ninjutsu. We've established five specialized Wind Release squads to counter Lightning Release with Wind Release ninjutsu."
Konohamaru picked up a pig-snout-like item. He racked his brain and thought about it. It seemed they had talked about this in class. He had a sudden realization. "Sensei, this is a gas mask, right? The Cloud ninja are even using poison gas? How despicable!"
Iruka pursed his lips, thought for a moment, but in the end, couldn't bring himself to tell the truth.
The Cloud ninja were as straightforward as they come; they really didn't deserve the blame for this! In fact, it was their side that was releasing the poison gas. That forty-meter-tall Wood Golem could spew poison, a green, oily poison that covered a large area with a single spray...
