Due to certain unusual circumstances, the scene fell into an awkward silence.
"No... why should I be happy?" Sabrina finally muttered, questioning her own reaction.
Eddie was clearly Team Rocket's enemy. After seeing him, shouldn't she be thinking about how to eliminate him?
That's right! The reason she was happy to see him was because now she had the opportunity to kill him!
Yes! It must be that!
Sabrina kept forcing this explanation on herself, and then her expression began to turn cold.
"Eddie, is it? You've arrived just in time! I'm pleased that I can eliminate two enemies for Team Rocket today!"
Sabrina seemed to be explaining why she had been happy moments ago, speaking loudly to both Eddie and Blaine.
"Moltres! Use Flamethrower!"
Sabrina appeared determined to prove her words were genuine, so she immediately ordered Moltres to attack Eddie.
Moltres' Flamethrower was like flames from a god of fire itself. Not only was the temperature extraordinarily high, but the speed was incredibly fast as well.
However, since this attack traveled in a straight line, its trajectory was easier to predict. Eddie was able to dodge the powerful and swift attack with relative ease.
"Why did you use the easy-to-dodge Flamethrower on him, but the nearly impossible-to-dodge Heat Wave on me? That's quite the difference in treatment," Blaine muttered.
Blaine felt somewhat jealous at this moment. Although he was getting on in years, Sabrina's obvious favoritism still seemed unfair to him. Even at his age, he still had some pride.
However, he wouldn't voice these feelings out loud right now. After all, regardless of the reason, since Sabrina was going easy on Eddie, the pressure on both of them would be significantly reduced.
If he exposed Sabrina's favoritism now, she might become furious and start attacking them seriously.
"However, something's off about this kid. How does his Garchomp have an Elite-level aura? In just one month, he's gone from Gym Leader level to Elite level!?"
"That's impossible. It can't be. He must have used some special method to temporarily boost Garchomp to this level of strength."
Blaine noticed something unusual about Eddie at first glance. Based on what he knew about the young trainer, he concluded that Eddie must be using some kind of enhancement.
"Wait! Why is your Pokémon at Elite level?" Sabrina finally exclaimed after Eddie dodged her attack.
After all, Garchomp's speed was much faster than she had anticipated, and its aura was even stronger than her own Pokémon. Something was clearly wrong.
But Sabrina was one of Team Rocket's three executives, after all. Team Rocket itself possessed potions that could instantly increase a Pokémon's strength. She immediately suspected that Eddie might have a similar trump card.
"I understand now. This is your trump card, isn't it? No wonder you dared to oppose Team Rocket so openly before. It turns out you had this ace up your sleeve!"
Sabrina had now returned to her normal composure. She had originally assumed that Eddie would be easily defeated if he challenged Moltres at his previous strength level, which was why she had subconsciously held back.
But now it seemed she might not need to hold back after all. Even while controlling Moltres, facing two Elite-level opponents, she might not be able to defeat them even if she fought with everything she had.
After all, although Moltres was powerful, it was currently being suppressed by the Badge, and its strength had been weakened considerably.
Otherwise, it wouldn't have been so easy to control. To perfectly control a legendary Pokémon, there always had to be some price to pay.
Name: Moltres
Attributes: Fire + Flying
Ability: Pressure
Level: 79 (Elite level) (Weakened and under control)
"As expected, even after being weakened, it's still at Elite level—and at the peak of Elite level at that," Eddie observed.
Eddie put away his Pokédex and looked at Moltres and Sabrina with a serious expression.
Although he had noticed it earlier, Sabrina had been holding back against him.
But now that Sabrina had seen through his trump card, she probably wouldn't show him any more mercy.
As for why Eddie was finally willing to reveal his ace now, it was because he was about to obtain his most powerful ally. There was no longer any need for him to hide his strength.
And in the situation moments ago, if he hadn't intervened, Blaine would definitely have been injured. When facing Moltres, it would be incredibly difficult to fight if someone was wounded.
"Blaine, is Charizard the only Flying-type Pokémon you have?" Eddie asked as he directed Garchomp to fly alongside Blaine.
"Of course! Why else would I only use one Pokémon to fight Moltres? I'm not that arrogant!" Blaine rolled his eyes at the question and complained.
If they were fighting against a normal Flying-type Pokémon, it wouldn't matter which Pokémon they used.
But if they dared to release a Pokémon that couldn't fly when battling a legendary beast like Moltres—which wasn't slow at all and could fly—they'd just be asking to get pummeled.
"The only Flying-type Pokémon I have besides Garchomp is Charizard," Eddie said.
Upon saying this, Eddie threw out a Poké Ball and released his strongest and first Pokémon—Charizard.
Of course, Charizard was currently in a state where its level had been enhanced by the Power of Viridian, which meant it was also at Elite level.
"Mega Evolve! Charizard!"
"Wait! After Charizard Mega Evolves, its ability will—" Blaine saw Eddie's actions and immediately tried to stop him.
He already owned a Charizard himself, so of course he had a Mega Stone. However, he didn't dare let his Charizard Mega Evolve. After all, the ability gained from that particular Mega Evolution increased the power of Fire-type moves.
In an ordinary battle, it wouldn't matter. But they were facing Moltres right now, and the opponent's boost from Fire-type moves would be greater than theirs.
That was why Blaine hadn't allowed his Charizard to Mega Evolve. But Eddie had Mega Evolved his the moment he arrived. What was he thinking?
"Blaine, didn't you know that Charizard has two Mega Evolutions?" Eddie ignored Blaine's warning and directly Mega Evolved his Charizard into Mega Charizard X, then gave Blaine a pointed look.
Gary might not have known that Charizard had two Mega Evolutions, but why didn't Blaine—a Pokémon researcher—know this?
"Ahem... I thought yours would also be the Y Evolution." Blaine looked at the black and blue Mega Charizard X and couldn't help but blush as he spoke rather awkwardly.
"Have you two decided which one of you will be burned first? If you have, then I won't hold back any longer!" Sabrina called out impatiently.
"Moltres! Use Fire Blast!"
Sabrina seemed to be growing impatient—whether it was because Eddie hadn't acknowledged her or because she was irritated by Eddie and Blaine's casual conversation in front of her—and directly commanded Moltres to attack.
"This is a powerful yet easily dodgeable move. Those two must have some kind of relationship..." Blaine whispered under his breath.
"Blaine? What did you say?" Eddie asked, catching the tail end of the comment.
"Nothing at all! Let's quickly dodge the attack!"
