"This is the Pokémon Flute. As long as you play it, no matter what Pokémon it is, at any time, any sleeping Pokémon that hears the sound of this flute will be awakened immediately."

Mr. Fuji first picked up the recording device with a Poké Ball attached to the bottom and carefully explained its effect to Eddie.

This item was honestly quite limited in its usefulness. It could only be used to wake up a Snorlax that might be sleeping on roads or blocking bridge intersections.

Additionally, during battle, if one of your own Pokémon became trapped in a sleep condition, you could use the flute to wake up that Pokémon.

There were probably only those two practical applications, and Eddie wasn't certain whether the Snorlax sleeping on the roadside had already been captured and taken away by Ash.

"I should go take a look tomorrow. If it's still there, I'll capture it. Snorlax makes an excellent defensive wall, and it might prove useful in certain situations."

Eddie thought about it privately and realized that if he didn't go investigate, it would be somewhat wasteful to have this Pokémon Flute. Regardless, the Snorlax was very close to Lavender Town. Since it was getting late today, he could go check tomorrow morning.

"As for this Poké Ball, there's a Gastly with good potential inside. It was given to you by Agatha. There's also this letter that accompanies it. Please take both."

Mr. Fuji made this shocking statement, then handed the Poké Ball to Eddie, who looked completely unconvinced by what he was hearing.

"What did you say? This Poké Ball was given to me by Agatha? Why would she do that? I just ruined her entire experiment."

Eddie was naturally shocked. He had just destroyed Agatha's experiment only a few hours ago, yet now she was rewarding him?

"So you really did know that Agatha was the mastermind behind everything. Very well, I won't ask you how you discovered that information."

Mr. Fuji looked unsurprised by this revelation, but he was tactful enough not to press Eddie about how he had known that the enemy was Agatha.

"She sent this to me directly by express delivery. It was delivered shortly after you solved the incident and left the tower. As for why she gave you this Gastly, she wrote a letter to explain her reasoning."

After saying this, Mr. Fuji picked up an envelope, opened it, and placed the letter on the table for Eddie to read.

"Boy, you traveled all the way to Lavender Town. In addition to visiting the Pokémon Tower, you must have also wanted to capture some Ghost-type Pokémon for your team."

"Unfortunately, I have already captured all the Ghost-type Pokémon that were residing here. You won't find any Pokémon to capture if that was your intention."

"However, you performed exceptionally well when solving the Pokémon Tower incident. Even though you were the one who destroyed my experiment, that doesn't prevent me from appreciating your impressive performance. This Gastly is my reward for you. Train it well, and I hope you'll use it to battle against me someday."

In just those few words, Agatha had explained many things. However, Eddie noticed something far more important than Agatha simply sending him a Gastly.

"Agatha captured all the Ghost-type Pokémon in the Pokémon Tower? What does she need so many Pokémon for..."

Eddie stopped speaking at this point because he suddenly remembered that all the Machop family members at Mt. Moon had been captured as well.

Ghost-type Elite Four member Agatha had captured all the Ghost-type Pokémon in the Pokémon Tower. Then the person who captured the Fighting-type Pokémon at Mt. Moon must have been Fighting-type Elite Four member Bruno!

"Damn, I understand now. The Elite Four actually planned this so far in advance. They're capturing Pokémon to form their own personal armies, aren't they?"

At this moment, Eddie deduced who the person responsible for capturing the Machop family was, and he also understood what the Elite Four were attempting to accomplish.

"Ding! You have discovered the actions of the Kanto Elite Four and figured out their true purpose. You have triggered a long-term hidden task!"

"Ding! Long-term hidden mission 'Destroy the Kanto Elite Four's Plan'!"

"Mission content: Investigate and destroy the Kanto Elite Four's scheme. No time limit."

"..."

Eddie sighed internally. This long-term hidden mission was much less reliable than the one involving Mew. This was clearly something that would take a very long time to complete, yet it was triggered now. No wonder it indicated that the time limit was unlimited.

Eddie wouldn't continue complaining about this mission. He had to accept it, but there was no need to focus on it immediately. There was still plenty of time to deal with it later.

"Alright, I will train this Gastly well. When the time comes, I'll take it to face Agatha in battle."

Eddie picked up the Poké Ball and attached it to his belt. He would examine it more closely when he returned to the Pokémon Center. There was no immediate rush.

"Now that I think about it, Lucario will definitely go up against Fighting-type Elite Four member Bruno, and this Gastly will be used to deal with Ghost-type Elite Four member Agatha. If I want to face Dragon-type Elite Four member Lance, I also have Gabite for that purpose."

"I already have three Pokémon with attributes corresponding to three of the Elite Four members, so should I capture an Ice-type Pokémon to battle against Ice-type Elite Four member Lorelei?"

Eddie found this concept quite interesting. The Elite Four were all masters of their respective types. If he could defeat them using Pokémon of the same type, it would be like delivering a massive slap to their faces.

"It depends on the circumstances. I need to find the right Ice-type Pokémon that would be worth training."

Of course, it was an appealing idea and worth attempting, but for Ice-type Pokémon, Eddie would have to see if he could capture some suitable candidates later on.

"Very well, the next item is the final thing - this mysterious crystal."

After Mr. Fuji saw that Eddie already understood the purpose and source of the previous two items, he began introducing the last mysterious crystal.

"This crystal was discovered in the Alola Region. Many people can sense the mysterious power contained within it, but nobody has been able to activate the power inside it yet. This object is extremely rare even in the Alola Region."

"I was fortunate enough to obtain this particular specimen, but like the people over there, I have not yet discovered how to use this power. Even when I asked my friend who is an Elite Trainer to hold it, he couldn't activate the power."

"However, I believe that perhaps a Trainer like you, who goes on adventures everywhere, is more likely to discover its true power. Therefore, I have decided to give this crystal to you."

Mr. Fuji looked at the crystal with extremely passionate eyes. It was clear that he genuinely wanted to study how to use this power, but since he still had no success, he decided to give it to Eddie so the young Trainer could try to activate this power during his adventures.

"Haha, it's completely useless for you to have an Elite Trainer hold it. This item could be said to be designed exclusively for Champion-level Trainers."

Eddie thought privately that Mr. Fuji had probably only managed to find an Elite Trainer to cooperate with him in his experiments. Others could only hope to find a qualified Elite Four member or even a Gym Leader to conduct experiments.

After all, truly powerful individuals had their own responsibilities and reputations to maintain. Why should they be expected to cooperate with a researcher's experiments?

It might be acceptable for Gym Leaders, since such people were typically stationed in one location and didn't have overwhelming schedules that kept them traveling constantly. However, for Trainers above that level, who would bother helping researchers?

Nevertheless, even if they managed to find willing participants, it would be useless because Eddie knew that this item could only be utilized by Champion-level Trainers. Champion-level Trainers were basically impossible to track down. Setting aside whether they could be persuaded to participate in experiments, actually locating them was already a significant problem.

The crystal felt warm in Eddie's hands as he examined it closely. He could sense there was indeed something special about it, though he couldn't quite identify what that power might be. This Z-Crystal would definitely prove valuable once he reached the appropriate level of strength to unlock its mysterious abilities.
