Instantly, Daniel felt nervous. He tried to think of a way to explain things about his mother.
But when he looked back at Chantelle, the words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat. His chest felt heavy, and it was filled only with a pain he couldn't describe.
"Have you eaten today?" Chantelle finally asked.
Daniel was surprised by her question. He shook his head.
"You haven't eaten anything since you came back yesterday?" Chantelle frowned.
"I'll eat now!" Daniel said quickly, afraid she might walk away.
Chantelle felt anxious. He never acted like this before. Still, she said, "The medicine is ready. Let's go to the lab first. We can eat on the way."
"Let's eat first. There should be leftovers from last night. And you haven't eaten since yesterday either," Daniel replied as he stood up.
Although Chantelle only wanted something simple, she did not want to argue with Daniel. She walked straight to the dining room.
