Chapter 599 - The Nionarus Wedding

A wedding back on Earth begins with preparation rather than spectacle: clothing chosen not for comfort but for meaning, colors weighed for what they represent rather than how they flatter, and objects such as rings selected precisely because they endure when flesh does not.

On Earth, vows are spoken aloud to bind intention to language. Rings are exchanged to give physical weight to that intention and witnesses are gathered so the union does not exist merely in private but in public acknowledgment. The wedding is as much for the community as it is for the couple. It tells the world without ambiguity that two separate people have chosen to be together forever.

Transmigrators carried this concept with them into the Hidden Citadel not because they were sentimental but because the Earth-style wedding solves a problem that exists in every world. In Spheraphase, power responds to conviction and rituals that mix intent, symbolism and communal recognition tend to stabilize relationships.

Over time, Earth's wedding customs were adapted rather than discarded. The aesthetics changed first because white fabric and tailored suits meant nothing to worlds that could create energy or divinity into clothing. The structure, however, remained. There is still a procession. There are still vows and witnesses. There are two marriage rituals. The secretive one which Vastarael and Adelasta did and the public one.

The first major divergence was attire. In the Hidden Citadel and across Spheraphase, wedding garments are not meant to symbolize purity or status. The fabrics are often infused with traces of the wearer's energy or Divinity.

The second change was the sealing of marriage in both blood and ring. Earth weddings rely on law and documentation to enforce permanence. Spheraphase does not need paper. A drop of blood, willingly given, binds more tightly than any contract, especially when paired with a ring forged to resonate with both souls. The ring is not merely exchanged. It is activated. Blood touches metal, intent follows and the bond anchors itself simultaneously to body, soul and identity. For Spheraphasians, this carries additional weight.

The third change was the removal of the best man and maid of honor. Those roles, rooted in Earth's social hierarchy and symbolic protection, were simplified into helpers: one for the bride, one for the groom. These helpers steady the participants emotionally, assist with ritual precision and, if necessary, intervene should the ritual or the partners have issues. In a world where weddings between powerful beings can cause chaos, this is not a courtesy but a safeguard.

The fourth change reflects the matriarchal structure of Spheraphase.

Here, lineage, authority and inheritance flow primarily through the feminine line. As such, the symbolism of movement was inverted. The groom walks the aisle while the bride waits.

Asenane learned all of this in explanations given between fittings and preparations from Miranda but none of it truly settled until she stood at the edge of the aisle herself. She had expected something dignified, perhaps even restrained. What she found instead was overwhelming.

The open garden space was far larger than before. Hundreds of souls sat waiting. Some were visible, others were translucent and some were radiant in ways that had nothing to do with light. Asenane froze for a moment, genuinely caught off guard.

Shimmer stood beside her. As her mother's helper, she adjusted the fall of Asenane's wedding garment with care. When Asenane finally found her voice, it came out quiet.

"Why are there so many?"

Shimmer answered easily, as if explaining the weather.

"When Diov fell, the authority that bound countless souls fractured. Some dissipated forever and some became free. Miranda called them here."

"Oh."

Shimmer glanced up at her mother while adjusting one last fold of the gown,.

"Are you nervous?"

Asenane let out a breath she did not realize she had been holding and gave a small, helpless laugh.

"Yes. I never imagined I would be getting married on the back of a massive turtle, inside a hidden realm of the afterlife with several hundred souls watching me breathe."

"When you say it like that, it does sound intense."

"It is intense."

Shimmer smiled, clearly enjoying this more than she should have.

"If it helps, Runner's acting as the groom helper. She'll be walking with him along the aisle so you won't be alone up here wondering if he fell asleep or if he's doing something crazy."

That earned another soft laugh from Asenane, though her eyes drifted instinctively toward the far end of the meadow. The garden aisle stretched forward like something out of a dream. The turtle beneath the realm could barely be heard.

Asenane stood there, unmistakably radiant. The purple gown she wore had deep violet at the hem and softening into lighter shades near her shoulders. The back was entirely open, designed with elegant precision so her dragon wings could extend freely. Her tail moved behind her unrestrained. Shimmer stepped back to admire her work.

"You look incredible. Dad's going to forget how to walk."

"He already forgets how to breathe on a regular basis after getting his heart."

Before Shimmer could respond, a familiar voice cut in from the side.

"It is getting a bit late."

Reynolds said with his arms folded as he surveyed the meadow. He stood near the officiator's mark, dressed far more formally than usual, though the faint smirk on his face suggested he was enjoying the chaos just a little.

"They should have been here by now."

"Maybe he overslept."

Reynolds snorted. "Him? Oversleep? Not a chance. Either something delayed him or someone distracted him. Or both. But he wouldn't miss this."

Shimmer nodded in agreement. "Runner would drag him here personally if she had to."

That eased something in Asenane's chest. She turned her gaze back to Reynolds.

"You said something this morning about us not going anywhere except our… honeymoon."

Reynolds' expression shifted instantly into something far too knowing.

"A honeymoon. Right."

Asenane frowned slightly. "What is that?"

"You'll know soon enough."

"That is not an explanation."

"It's the best one you're getting. Trust me. It's tradition. Earth tradition, specifically. Very important."

Shimmer cleared her throat with her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Extremely important."

Asenane looked between the two of them, already suspicious.

"I don't like the way either of you are smiling."

"You'll survive. Probably."

"Probably," Shimmer said far too cheerfully.
