Chapter 217 - Chapter 217: Then You're Unlucky

Mr. John Smith, Mrs. Jane Smith, and the legendary Carrot Killer, Smith, were considered among the top elite in the world of assassins. However, they were still at least a level or two below the legendary assassins of the Fraternity, as well as the expert ninjas of the secret Hand organization, known for their silent movement and unmarked killing.

Cross was the most skilled with firearms. As Cross stood calmly in a corner of the dust- and bullet-strewn room, holding a pistol in each hand—one in his right, one in his left—Cross' movements were calm yet deadly.

Cross fired bullets in an arc one after another, as if they had eyes. In an instant, Cross had suppressed an entire team. Half of them fell without even raising their weapons, their bodies collapsing under the impact of the bullets before they could even think of a way to escape.

Wherever the enemy hid, behind concrete, steel pillars, even the narrow gaps between unfinished staircases—the bullets, seemingly defying the laws of physics, always found them. It was as if the bullets had a sacred purpose: to bring the enemy face to face with God before they could take two breaths.

Mr. X's marksmanship was equally extraordinary, but Mr. X had a different fighting style. Mr. X preferred the adrenaline rush of close-quarters combat. When the surge of adrenaline surged through Mr. X's body, he became wild and ferocious, like a tiger released from its cage.

With a barely audible roar, Mr. X charged the group of assassins. His two pistols thudded relentlessly, spewing bullets like a rhythm of death. Mr. X struck, leaped, crashed—using his own body as a weapon.

In that brutal battle, Mr. X was like a rampaging black bear, knocking the assassins down one by one like bowling balls hitting pins. Bodies were thrown against the walls, falling heavily to the unsealed cement floor.

But no one was as brutal as Kagenobu Yoshioka.

Kagenobu Yoshioka... He was more than just a killer. Nobu was a shadow you couldn't catch, a whisper you only heard when it was too late. Every movement of Nobu's was as smooth as the night breeze, and every slash of his sword was an unavoidable destruction.

Nobu's katana flashed in the darkness like a flash of lightning, and each flash meant a head severed from a body, rolling across the blood-stained floor.

The pungent stench of blood filled the air inside the unfinished building—a thick, pungent odor, reminiscent of a battlefield. Dust and gunpowder smoke hung in the air, and red bloodstains spread like brutal paintings across the concrete walls.

Donna Quintano, a fierce woman with an iron will, held her baby tightly to her chest. Her body trembled slightly, not from fear of the killers, but from fear that the blood gushing around them would suffocate the baby.

Donna bent her head, shielding the baby's face from the horror around her, hoping the baby would not remember this scent of death.

John crouched on the ground, still holding his gun, then shrugged at his wife with a small, triumphant smile: "See? I told you, Lance would come and save us!"

Jane glanced at John. Her gaze turned sharp, but not out of anger—more of a harsh reality that couldn't be ignored. Jane said meaningfully: "Even if the assassins are eliminated this time, the organization will send more."

John fell silent, the smile on his face slowly fading.

Lance, who was standing quietly not far from them, heard Jane's words. Lance turned and asked, in a flat but curious tone: "John's organization just collapsed... So, are they really that determined to hunt you down?"

John shrugged slowly, his eyes weary. "An organization has acquired mine, and to establish their authority over the assassins within, they need a big target. And I... am the best choice for that."

"Hmm," Lance nodded slowly, staring at them for a moment, then said lightly in a tone that somehow lightened the air, "Then you're unlucky."

Lance then added, gazing at the pair with calm but deep eyes: "But you don't need to test anything here. Since I promised to guarantee your safety, I will."

For a moment, Jane's cold expression softened. The tension in her shoulders eased slightly.

They were all elites in their respective worlds—assassins, strategists, escapees from the shadow world. They knew full well how powerful and ruthless the organization that targeted them was. But now, a mysterious, powerful, and calm figure—Lance—was willing to take the risk for them.

Although Jane had always been reluctant to submit to any man, for the first time in a long time... Jane felt at ease. It was as if the mountain that had been perched on Jane's shoulders had finally shifted slightly.

John laughed softly, his smile returning. "Then, now I feel even more worthy of giving you that dagger!"

Donna Quintano, who had been silent and listening, opened her mouth slowly. Her lips trembled, and there was hesitation in her eyes. She wanted to say something, but didn't know where to begin.

Donna wasn't a murderer. Donna wasn't a soldier. Donna was just a woman caught in the middle of a power struggle, one she didn't want to get involved in. But if there was one chance to get out of all this, for the sake of the baby, Donna was willing to pay the price.

However, Donna knew Smith. He was stubborn, hot-tempered, and uncompromising.

And sure enough...

Smith, the Carrot Killer, who had been standing as still as stone, lowered his head. Smith's gaze fell on Donna. Smith's face was stern, his voice flat, but reassuring: "Don't be afraid. After I expose this group of assassins, I will find the mastermind behind the scenes. As long as that person is killed, we will be safe... forever."

Donna held her baby tightly. Donna's eyes welled with tears.

But Lance only smiled faintly, his eyes narrowed slightly, his voice soft but with an irresistible command: "Don't worry too much. Whether it's the people after John and Jane, or the people after you... I'll send someone to handle all of this. You won't have to worry about these things in the future."
