Chapter 21 - Ren's Invitation

CHAPTER 21

She was still dressed in the same robes as the morning and looked more stunning than ever under the gaze of the moonlight. He couldn't tell why he had stopped moving the moment he saw her and as she stood there staring right at him, he couldn't think of the right words to say.

"Should we get going?" She asked, reaching out her hand towards him.

"That's right. What she said this morning, does this have something to do with it?" He thought, looking around the surrounding areas, before staring right back at her.

He gaped open his mouth slowly, and after a moment asked, "And where will we be going?"

"You'll see once we get there. He'll be waiting there for us as well."

"Who?" He asked, furrowing his brows slightly.

At that moment she looked around the area as well before slowly leaning closer to him. He leaned back slightly but didn't try to stop her as she wrapped her hand around his neck, and slowly brought her lips closer to his ears.

"Your cousin, Ren Fujiboma." She whispered, quickly moving away from him.

At first, the only person on his mind when she said he was his doppelganger but now his interest has only piqued further at the mention of that name. Just like he and his doppelganger, Ren was another set piece to all this.

They were bound to meet at some point but his coming this soon meant things were going to be easier for him, a bit too easier to be precise. Ren was someone who was so cautious he even refused to see his own sister and now he came to see him of all people.

Right now, Ren was believed to be the one possessing the leylines of their own universe but since he knew that was a lie, every other thing heeded towards him was only a gamble most were willing to take.

The only reason why Karin told him that story was because she knew he was bound to tell Rikiyo. None of them were stupid, so much so that even she brought up such a question as whether he had been keeping things from her.

They both knew Ren and of course, they could both tell that even Enma didn't know of what happened. And to top things off, he had no idea who this girl was or what her motives even were.

"So... You mean the Ren Fujiboma. You know, white hair, green eyes and a personality that would normally put most people off?" He asked, taking another step back, "And I should ask how you even came to know him in the first place."

Her smile slowly dwindled leaving her with a stern gaze at him as she slowly placed her teeth on her lips while swirling her tongue around inside her mouth as much as possible.

He couldn't tell what was going through her mind as she was quickly closing her mouth each time she tried to open it. He could only guess that there was a critical piece of information she had to disclose, or perhaps it was just another coded message that he was meant to decipher on his own.

"Is there something you want to tell me?" He asked once again, briefly stopping in his tracks.

She stopped biting her lip after that, slowly raising her hand to point at her hair and face. He twitched his eyes at the sight of what she was doing but no matter how keenly he tried to look, he still couldn't take a good look at her face.

Seeing how hard he was trying to see what she was trying to show him, she quickly took a few steps closer to him. Now, they were less than ever away from each other and since it was a full moon he should have been able to see her fully.

"He shouldn't be that dumb." She thought, gazing straight into his eyes.

He had to blink a few couple times before he could see, not that he was even sure of what he was seeing at that moment- she looked awfully similar to Karin with their eye placements.

But her hair and eyes were red with a fair hue of brown to them- ginger would be a better way to describe her hair and her eyes were more amber than anything else.

That fair similarity was what had caught his attention during the morning but of course, he refused to pay much attention to it given the fact that she was trying to hide her presence more than anything else.

And right now, that question lingered more than anything else in his mind- why would she want to hide from his sister or even Yuki?

"Before we get going, can I at least get to know who you are?" He asked, staring right back at her.

"I wish I could show you, or perhaps tell you, but it's not something I can risk even while knowing its very consequences. But if you want to show me you, then I suggest we both go back in...."

"Shut up!" A booming masculine voice came from the side, quickly cutting her short of words. "Do you really plan on taking on taking him somewhere better to have him eaten, or to have him eat you?"

Megumi's face quickly turned red at the hearing of the last few words as he turned around to see who was standing just a few meters away from them. It was fairly dark, but she could still see his flowing white hair and pale green eyes.

"Why are you here?" She asked, turning towards him as well, her face just as red as Megumi's.

"For goodness sake, we already talked about this and how short on time I was. You were the one who even volunteered to go bring him and yet all you did was stall just enough to prepare enough momentum for your stupid love confession!" He voiced angrily as he quickly approached the both of them.

At that moment Megumi's face turned back to the girl standing before him and honestly, he found it hard to hold in his laughter at the level of embarrassment she was going through. Her face was bright red, her legs were trembling and her teeth were being gritted harder than ever.

"He seems quite cheeky, a bit of the opposite of what you'd see in his sister." He thought, quickly turning his gaze back to Ren.

Well, it was obvious that Ren had come to see him and the first thing he was hoping for was a proper introduction between the both of them as he stood there waiting for him to take another step closer.

"We can introduce ourselves later." Ren said as shadows quickly devoured both Megumi and his cousin, while he later began to slowly descend into it as well, " It's about time I got things moving."
