"Shouldn't we head back?"
They had already driven for miles but Andrea still could not help but feel worried, and the same goes for Rosita as she had been constantly fidgeting around her seat since their last talk of possible enemies among the rescued survivors.
Michael released yet another sigh. Though slightly annoyed at being asked the same question multiple times already, he still answered her patiently. "We..you need to learn how to trust them. There are still T-Dog, Big Tiny, Axel, Otis and those college kids to look after the group. Besides, I doubt they'd make a move if they don't have any certainty that Rick, the others and including us are dead. I also left our most reliable weapon to someone who can use it if something really does happen back at the camp during our absence."
"Who?"
Prison Camp, inside Michael's cell room.
Grooooan!
The sound of something heavy scraping against the floor echoed inside the room as Hershel pushed a long wooden box and hid it under the bed.
With one knee on the floor, Hershel was staring under the bed and muttered to himself. "I hope the time that we have to use this thing does not come."
Following those words, he slowly stood up and locked the room after him before making his way down the stairs and out of the building.
A couple of seconds after he left, a pair of someone's legs slowly walked out of the dark hallway connected to the other cell blocks and slowly disappeared upstairs.
Danng!
"F*ck!"
The sound of metal rattling echoed upstairs, followed by the muffled sound of someone cursing.
'Just when we were ready to take action, they just had to come back!'
In a small town south of Georgia, and just several miles away from the border of the two states.
"We're returning." Michael read the spray painted red words on the welcome sign of the small town.
The following words were; We're returning. Rick G. 12.7.20XX.
"They passed through here? How come we didn't bump into them?" Andrea let out an amused chuckle as she couldn't believe their situation. They were so worried about them, only to find out that they had already made their way back to camp. While the three of them on the other hand, are now stuck here, in a strange place.
Leaning on the car with her arms crossed, Rosita shrugged her shoulders. "It's obvious they took another road aside from ours. So what now? Do we head back or continue south?"
It didn't take long for Michael to decide. "We continue south. I want to see what made them return. I don't believe Rick would suddenly have a change of mind and decide to turn back when they have already travelled this far."
"But before that, let's hit the pharmacies around here." Michael added and made his way back inside the car.
"What for?" Rosita asked as she also got back in. Though obviously, she was just asking it in passing, but someone interpreted it wrong and immediately called her out on it.
"Obviously to get medicines, what else do you do at a pharmacy?" Andrea let out a sigh. She was slightly amused that such an obvious thing still needs to be asked.
Rosita didn't say anything in response and just shook her head. She feels it's a waste of time and energy arguing with this jealous girlfriend of Michael's.
The town is small, so it didn't take long for them to find one pharmacy in the area.
The vehicle came to a stop a street away from it and just everyone was about to alight from it. Michael looked at them and addressed the two women with him. "No, you two stay here. I'm going in alone."
"What? Why?" Andrea asked in confusion.
Michael didn't offer a lengthy explanation other than. "I move faster when I'm alone."
"But-"
"No, you two stay put."
Rosita wanted to say something but Michael immediately cut her off and looked at her with a stern face before closing the door.
Bam!
Silence reigned inside the car as the two women silently watched Michael make a run towards the pharmacy with his Kampilan in his hand, once again accompanying him.
Along the way, Michael released a relieved sigh while thinking. 'Finally alone. Seriously, bringing those two together with me was a bad idea from the start.'
Arriving before the pharmacy, Michael sheathed his sword on his back and pulled out a handgun.
'Seems like no one has come here yet.' He thought, surprised to see the shelves still half full of different medicines.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
Michael clenched his hand and started banging the glass door with just enough force not to break it.
"..."
He didn't immediately barge inside since he wanted to see if there were any trapped walkers inside the building.
"Weird." Michael muttered under his breath. A though suddenly crossed his mind and he slowly turned around to scan his surroundings.
'Hmmm..did the residents manage to evacuate early or are they still around?' He thought. He suddenly feels that there's something eerie about the town.
'This town is too peaceful..and too clean. There's no sign of any chaos anywhere.' Michael finally noticed what was wrong with this place. He had already travelled to many places before and even the smallest community had walkers in the area. But he realized that he hadn't seen any walkers when they were driving around the area, much less an abandoned vehicle.
None at all!
'There's people living here.' Michael calmly thought, and with that realization in mind. The feeling of someone out there watching him finally started seeping in. He didn't immediately realize it earlier since he was feeling a little stressed out because of his two companions who are like fire and water. One keeps taking a jab at the other, while the latter just calmly receives them, further annoying the former due to the feeling of being ignored.
'Women are so hard to understand.' He thought and slowly started making his way back to the others.
On the other hand, Michael was spot on with his conjecture. There were indeed people watching them.
Not just one, but several of them.
On the other side of the street.
On the eleven o'clock of the pharmacy just across the street. There are currently nine people closely watching Michael from the inside of what is obviously the town's town hall.
"He's leaving. Did we lock the pharmacy when we left? Why didn't he go in?" One of them asked aloud. He's visibly confused just looking at his expression.
One of the men standing by the window and holding a binoculars slowly lowered his hand and responded. "No, that guy must have noticed that there was something wrong and decided to just go."
"Then should'nt we go after them? Their obviously carrying a lot of things."
The man who looks to be their leader slowly turned his head and raised an eyebrow. "He's armed with an M4 and we also don't know if his companions are also armed the same. Us on other hand only have pistols and shotguns. So, if you have a death wish, then you can go down ahead and attack them."
"So we're letting them go?"
"It appears so."
"Well, that sucks."
Their leader shrruged his shoulders and responded. "Hey, we don't win everyday. There's also days we lose. Got it?"
