Chapter 2 - Unexpected Connections

Chapter 2: Unexpected Connections

********* Writer's POV

Hey there, dear readers! Exciting things are happening, and I've finally created a way for us to connect more closely. I now have a Discord account where we can interact and chat!

Here's the link:

Now, let's dive into today's chapter, shall we?

The next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room.

Alena stirred beneath the covers, slowly blinking as her eyes adjusted to the brightness. She stretched lazily, feeling the softness of the bed beneath her before finally sitting up.

"Good morning, Father. Good morning, Son. Good morning, Holy Spirit," she murmured.

She swung her legs over the side of the bed, her feet touching the cool floor. For a moment, she remained still, clasping her hands together.

"O Lord, I praise You for another day. Many did not make it through the night, but here I am—healthy and whole. I surrender my life to You today, every part of it, even the things I don't understand. Go with me, Lord, and make the path ahead easy. May I find favor in the eyes of those around me, and may Your light shine through me. Amen."

She opened her eyes and smiled softly.

She felt at peace.

After quickly getting ready, Alena slipped into a light, airy top and a pair of trousers that felt perfect for the sunny weather. She applied a little makeup, glancing at herself in the mirror before grabbing her bag.

Then a thought suddenly crossed her mind.

I should have asked that cutie for his number.

She sighed.

Now I'm regretting it.

With one last look in the mirror, she stepped out of the dorm.

As she walked around the unfamiliar campus, she spotted a man approaching and decided to ask for help.

"Good morning, sir. Would you be able to take me on a little tour around the campus?"

The man looked at her.

Alena suddenly remembered something.

Wait.

She didn't have any money.

Great.

She mentally sighed.

Staying in an expensive university is making me feel like I'm rich.

Just as she was about to turn away, a quiet thought came to her mind.

Just because you don't have money doesn't mean you can't get a ride.

Alena paused.

She remembered the words of Psalm 23.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not lack."

A small smile appeared on her lips.

"Yes, Lord," she whispered. "I trust You. Let's go for it."

She turned back toward the car.

"Sir, can I hop in for a tour around?"

The man smiled warmly.

"Of course, young lady. I can see you're new here. I'll show you some of the best spots around."

"Really? Thank you!"

Alena climbed into the car.

As they drove, she looked around curiously, taking in everything she could. Her eyes eventually landed on a photograph sitting on the dashboard.

It showed a woman and two children.

The girl looked strikingly similar to the driver, while the boy seemed to resemble the woman.

Alena smiled.

"Your family?"

"Yes," the man replied, glancing briefly at the photograph. "That's my wife and my children."

"They're beautiful."

"Thank you." His smile widened. "My daughter especially. Everyone says she's my twin."

Alena laughed softly.

"I can actually see the resemblance."

The man chuckled.

"She's grown up now. Time really flies."

Alena looked at the photograph once more before turning back toward the road.

"It must be nice having such a close-knit family."

"It really is."

There was a brief silence before the man spoke again.

"Don't worry about paying for the ride, kid. I'll give you a free tour."

Alena's face brightened.

"Really? Thank you so much, sir."

"No problem. Enjoy yourself."

As they continued driving, Alena watched the scenery with growing excitement.

After a while, the man slowed down and pointed ahead.

"We've arrived."

Alena looked out the window.

Her eyes widened.

"We're at the Love Gathering," the man explained. "It's one of the popular spots around here. A lot of students come here to meet up with their friends."

Alena stepped out of the car.

She stared around in awe.

"Wow..."

The place was beautiful.

There was something peaceful about it—the kind of place that made you want to stay a little longer.

"It's so beautiful," she said softly. "And peaceful. It's perfect for the name."

She took a few steps forward, admiring the scenery.

Then she heard a familiar voice behind her.

"See who I meet again..."

Alena froze.

Wait.

She knew that voice.

Slowly, she turned around.

Her heart skipped.

Lexy.

He was standing a few feet away, a playful grin spreading across his face.

"Hey, Alena. I didn't think I'd run into you here."

Alena blinked, still surprised.

"Yeah... likewise."

She couldn't help smiling.

She hadn't expected to see him again so soon.

But somehow, seeing a familiar face in a place that still felt so unfamiliar made her feel a little more at ease.

Lexy tilted his head.

"You know we're classmates, right?"

Alena raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah. I know."

His grin widened.

"Then you'll be seeing a lot more of me."

She laughed.

"So you're kind of new here too?"

"Kind of," he replied.

Before Alena could ask anything else, the driver's voice interrupted them.

"Miss, your ride is waiting."

"Oh!" Alena turned around. "Right. I'm sorry. I almost forgot."

She started walking back toward the car.

But before she could get very far, Lexy called after her.

"Wait."

Alena turned.

"Why are you leaving already?"

She smiled apologetically.

"I didn't mean to leave so soon. This man gave me a ride earlier, and he's waiting to take me back."

Lexy's expression softened.

For a moment, neither of them said anything.

Then he smiled.

"It's okay. Let's walk him to his car. After that, I'll give you the best tour around here."

Alena smiled.

"Okay."

Together, they walked back toward the car.

"Thank you so much for the tour, sir," Alena said as they reached the vehicle.

The driver smiled.

"No problem, dear. Have fun with your friend."

Alena glanced at Lexy.

Friend?

She quickly looked away, trying to hide her smile.

Lexy chuckled.

"Thank you, sir."

The driver waved before driving away.

For a moment, Alena and Lexy simply stood there, watching the car disappear into the distance.

Then Lexy turned toward her.

"So..." he said, raising an eyebrow. "How are we getting around now?"

Alena shrugged.

"No fancy car, I'm afraid."

He laughed.

"So we're walking?"

"Looks like it."

Lexy smiled.

"Then let's make the most of it."

Alena laughed.

And just like that, the two of them set off together, walking side by side as their laughter echoed through the peaceful surroundings.

Neither of them knew it yet, but this unexpected meeting would be the beginning of a connection neither had planned for.
