Davian's Point Of View
Nikolai watched me with the same blank, detached expression.
As if I were some pathetic creature he had no interest in saving.
"Please," I whispered.
He said nothing.
"I…" I swallowed hard, my throat burning. "I sold everything, Nikolai. Everything."
He remained silent.
I pushed forward on my knees, desperation pouring off me in waves.
"I borrowed money from everyone I knew. I mortgaged my estates. I sold my properties, my shares, my stakes... I... I even gave up my father's vineyard, the one thing I swore I'd never touch."
No reaction.
Not even a flicker.
The tears finally broke free.
Hot.
Shameful.
Unstoppable.
"I have nothing left!" I cried, my voice rising into a hoarse, desperate shout. "Nothing! Everything was riding on this project! Everything!"
Still, Nikolai just sat there.
Cool.
Unmoved.
Untouchable.
