Chapter 233: A Day in the Life of a Great Inventor
Very soon, Hu Xiao had everything arranged.
As soon as Feihuang Studio uploaded their new review video, the hired bots would immediately start flooding the comment section and likes.
If it were a new or unknown creator, the fake comments would be more obvious—after all, small creators barely had any real fans.
But Feihuang Studio already had a big fanbase, so the bot comments wouldn't stand out as much.
That didn't matter, though.
As long as, right when the video went live, dozens or even hundreds of identical comments like "I've used this product, it's great, highly recommend it." appeared all at once, anyone with half a brain would notice.
Hu Xiao kept an eye on it, even followed Feihuang Studio's account and refreshed their page every so often.
Then, the next day—Feihuang Studio actually did release a video!
"Not bad, that 'Hardcore Review' guy really has his sources."
"He's got Feihuang Studio's situation down to a T—this guy's information network is no joke."
Hu Xiao's respect for "Hardcore Review" went up another notch.
He looked at the title of the video—"A Day in the Life of a Great Inventor."
And right there in the tags, one keyword stood out: "review."
"So it is a review video!"
Once he confirmed that, Hu Xiao didn't hesitate—he dropped a message in the group chat, directing his bots to start commenting.
Every single comment was identical, a straight copy-paste job:
> "I've used this product, it's great, highly recommend it."
Soon enough, dozens and dozens of those comments appeared.
Since Feihuang Studio already had plenty of genuine fans, the bots' comments were mixed in with normal ones like:
> "Back from the dead?"
> "The missing person returns!"
> "When's the next season of President Pei's Daily Life coming out?"
> "First comment!"
Even so, the bot comments made up the majority.
And because the bots also upvoted each other's posts, the top few "hot comments" were all those identical "I've used this product, it's great, highly recommend it." messages!
Looking at the results of his command, Hu Xiao couldn't help feeling proud.
"So what if they've got lots of fans? They still got drowned in the sea of bots!"
This kind of comment spam could have quite an impact.
For review-type channels, the usual ad revenue from Aili Island wasn't much—the real money came from sponsorships, the so-called 'eating with the sponsors'.
But if a review video was flooded with obviously fake bot comments, it could really hurt their credibility.
To the fans, seeing a trusted review channel hiring bots and "selling out" would make them doubt its objectivity—maybe even unfollow it.
And for sponsors, if a review program was known to use fake engagement, they'd wonder: Are these numbers real? If we partner with them, will it actually help, or just hurt our product's reputation?
Those kinds of doubts could cause serious trouble.
Of course, a few waves of bots wouldn't be fatal to Feihuang Studio—but it was still a headache and an annoyance to deal with.
After patiently waiting a while, Hu Xiao decided it was time to check the aftermath.
Based on his experience, only two things could've happened:
Scenario 1:
The bot behavior was so blatant that viewers started arguing with them, turning the comment section into a toxic mess.
—That would be Hu Xiao's favorite outcome.
Scenario 2:
Feihuang Studio noticed the bots and started mass-deleting the comments.
Even if they cleaned them up, plenty of people would've seen them already—and he could always spin the "deleted comments" angle later.
…
Two hours later.
"Alright, that should be enough time. Let's see how it turned out!"
Hu Xiao scrolled through the comment section under "A Day in the Life of a Great Inventor."
After reading for a bit, he fell into utter confusion.
What the hell?
Nobody was arguing?
In fact… there were even more people posting "I've used this product, it's great, highly recommend it."
Hu Xiao was stunned.
Are the bots still spamming?
That couldn't be right—water armies only worked the amount they were paid for. They wouldn't keep going out of pure enthusiasm!
So what on earth was happening?
Perplexed, Hu Xiao clicked into the video itself to find out.
…
…
On screen was a young man with a blank expression.
> "My name is Sun Aidi. English name, Eddie Sun. I'm a great inventor."
> "This is my latest invention—a handheld portable washing machine."
He held up the device to the camera. It looked like a cup-sized cylinder, with a tiny brush head on top, a small motor, a battery pack, and a built-in water tank.
> "It's equipped with a high-efficiency motor that makes the brush head vibrate rapidly, while spraying just enough water to dampen stained areas."
> "At this point, all you need to do is pour a little laundry detergent onto the stain, use the portable washing machine to scrub repeatedly, and voilà—your clothes are instantly as good as new! You'll never have to worry about dirty spots again!"
> "I'm going to apply for a patent right away. It'll go into mass production soon—it'll get rave reviews, explode in sales, attract investors, go public, and I'll build a business empire and reach the peak of life!"
The scene cut to a restaurant.
Eddie Sun was sitting across from a pretty girl, eating dinner.
> "I'm having dinner with Xiao Mei today. This is the perfect opportunity to show her my invention! Once she sees it, she'll definitely admire me, respect me, and do whatever I say!"
When they clinked glasses, Eddie Sun "accidentally" spilled a few drops of wine onto Xiao Mei's skirt.
> "Ah!" Xiao Mei gasped, grabbing a napkin to wipe it off.
> "Xiao Mei, leave it to me!!"
Eddie Sun immediately pulled out his portable washing machine and pressed the power button.
The device started vibrating violently, spraying little jets of water everywhere.
The footage froze—the camera cut to close-ups of the horrified faces of everyone in the restaurant.
Xiao Mei stared at him for a second, then picked up the phone on the table:
> "Hello? 110? Yes, I'd like to report someone."
Cut to the next scene—a roadside barbecue stall.
Eddie Sun was now sitting there, clutching a skewer in one hand, crying on his buddy's shoulder.
The guy sitting across from him kept trying to comfort him.
"Don't worry, Eddie. Xiao Mei just misunderstood you for the moment—she'll forgive you soon!"
As they ate, a piece of greasy meat suddenly fell onto his friend's sleeve.
Eddie's eyes widened. "Don't move! Leave it to me!!"
He quickly pulled out his portable washing machine again and aimed it at his friend's oil-stained sleeve.
His buddy looked shocked. "Eddie! Is that your new invention? The portable washing machine? That's amazing! Hurry, help me clean it!"
Reinvigorated, Eddie struck several cool poses with the little machine before suddenly freezing mid-motion.
"Wait— did you bring detergent?"
"..Huh?"
"For stubborn stains like oil, you have to use detergent. You didn't bring any? Soap would work too."
"???"
—Several scenes later—
Eddie was slumped on the couch at home.
"My name is Sun Aidi. English name, Eddie Sun. I am a great inventor."
"I've created something that could change the world... but the world doesn't understand me."
"If you're interested in my invention, please contact me."
"Together, we can mass-produce it, earn rave reviews, explode in sales, secure funding, build a business empire, and reach the peak of life!"
...
When Hu Xiao scrolled back to the comment section, he was stunned.
"Is this a new Feihuang Studio show? This is hilarious!"
"Hahaha, classic Feihuang flavor!"
"Who tagged this as a 'product review'? I'm dying of laughter!"
"This washing machine's too good—where can I buy one?"
"Followed! As long as you don't invent something useful, I'll keep following!"
"I've used this product, it's great, highly recommend it."
"I've used this product, it's great, highly recommend it. +1"
Both the bullet comments and the top comments were filled with that same line—"I've used this product, it's great, highly recommend it."
The phrase spread like wildfire, copied by more and more viewers.
Hu Xiao scratched his head in utter confusion.
"What's going on? Where are my paid commenters? I hired so many of them!"
"Why do they blend in so perfectly with the real comments, not even stirring up a ripple?"
Looking back on the whole bizarre chain of events, Hu Xiao finally sent a private message to Hardcore Review:
"Bro… which side are you even on?"
