Chapter 4 - Path [2]

After chief Grokk's quick lesson, they both returned to his house in the afternoon. The goblins within the village started to question each other regarding Leo's appearance and chief Grokk's sudden special care for him considering the past disputes of humans and monsters in the past but was soon answered by the shaman. They all couldn't believe at first but did after meeting with Leo himself. They couldn't distinguish whether Leo was truly was human or not due to his goblin blood inside him.

As the second day of Leo's stay in the small goblin village at the edge of the Abyssal Forest... Chief Grokk brought Leo inside the forest early morning, in order for his senses to be freshly woken and ready for his tasks at hand.

Chief Grokk first taught Leo how to maneuver inside the forest by being able to leap from branch to branch. As they went deep inside the forest, they spotted a group of wild Grokk's resting under a tree.

"Heh, this is where I got name from. Those are Grokks, large bear like beasts that'll tear your flesh when they see you."

Leo, a bit nervous for his first task, held the barrel of the thunderbolt whilst shaking due to his fear instinct for beasts.

"Calm down boy, hold your barrel straight and use your mana to guide your hands at the direction of the target. Remember what I taught you yesterday."

Leo recalled his lesson from yesterday about the mana sense and mana aim that Grokk taught him. Leo concentrated and spread his mana at the surrounding area of the wild Grokks. By connecting his mana and the mana inside the head of the wild Grokk like tying two thin threads together. Leo aimed the barrel at the direction of his mana connected to the direction of the wild Grokk's head. Without hesitation, Leo pulled the trigger and fired a fatal shot at the wild Grokk's head, earning his second monster skill, goblin marksmanship.

At the sound of the fire, the remaining wild Grokks awoke and found Leo through their high mana sense and sense of smell.

"Repeat what I told you yesterday."

Chief Grokk said behind him

"Once a shot is fired, always change locations."

Chief Grokk nodded and without seconds to be wasted, Leo jumped from tree to tree, away from the perimeter of their senses. Once he was able to regain his position, he shot the other remaining wild Grokks whilst moving to different trees. After the hunt was done, chief Grokk instructed Leo to bring back the wild Grokks for a feast and also to hold an offering to the dragon they serve.

"Chief Grokk, I've always wanted to know more about dragons. But I couldn't find anything about them in the libraries of my country."

Chief Grokk, sitting beside me as the village feasted on the wild Grokks roasted on a large fire.

"That's natural you brat, even though us monsters entered a peace treaty with the humans. We will still not share everything with them."

Chief Grokk takes a bite of the meat.

"I'll tell you about the dragon us goblins worshipped. Every species worship a different dragon, that is why many factions were formed in the monster race."

Leo takes a comfortable sit and ready to listen.

Chief Grokk started the tale, of how the goblins first came to worship the certain dragon that they feared and revered. The dragon's name was Zephyr, just like the goblins, the great dragon Zephyr was swift and sharp. No mortal could hide from the eyes of the great dragon Zephyr. As the first mortal that worshipped Zephyr, the goblins were blessed with the senses that Zephyr possessed, giving the goblins the sharp senses they now possess in their species. As days gone by, the great dragon Zephyr disappeared from the world, but it left a gift that the goblins uses now today, the Thunderbolt.

"Wait, I thought the Thunderbolt was self-engineered by the goblins."

Leo says.

"After the goblins received that gift, it was then replicated and the art of marksmanship was then formed."

Chief Grokk takes another bite of the meat.

"After this, I'll send you a test. A task that will test your true capabilities. If you complete it, I will deem you ready for the academy."

A few days passed, inside the forest not far from the village, there exists a cave home to a minotaur. Leo's final task was to eliminate the minotaur that was known to have caused destruction within the villages near to it's home.

Leo, now without the guide of Chief Grokk..

. Must venture deep inside the cave, dark and quiet with unknown beasts living inside including the minotaur.

"I'm here..."

Leo took his first steps inside whilst enhancing his every sense organ to the brim. The sounds of crawling could be heard at the walls and water dripping inside.

"There!"

Leo opened fire at the direction of the crawling sound. As the sparks of the barrel dimly lit up the walls of the cave, multiple large insects started running to him.

"Auto fire"

Switching to auto fire, Leo rained down bullets at the insects. Staining the cave with the green blood of the insects while attracting beasts to his location. Without hesitation, Leo continued his walk inside the whilst killing the beasts within three shots to save his mana and ammo. As he stepped down to the deepest part, a hammer was slammed to his body, causing him to thrown at the wall and dropping the Thunderbolt.

The minotaur was staring at Leo through the darkness, and without a second to waste, the minotaur chased down Leo while swinging the large hammer it held in it's arms.

"Huff... Huff... Shit.."

Leo was stricken with pain in his entire body. He immediately stood up and tried to find his Thunderbolt inside the darkness. Due to his concussion and the injury he attained from the strong blow from the minotaur's hammer. His body started to waver and weaken over time, but within that split second... Using his unknown power once again, by separating the light properties from mana and transfusing it to his eyes. He was now able to see within the darkness and avoid the large hammer.

"Hooo... One more time!"
