Chapter 30 - Chased Down

The moment Elk realized Celeste was gone, his mind raced. He couldn't sit idly by while Damian had her. He knew he had to act, and fast. Fueled by desperation and love, Elk began piecing together what little information he had about Damian, hoping to find a lead that would bring him closer to Celeste.

After hours of digging, Elk stumbled upon Damian's connection to a massive health insurance company. Using his office credentials and access to public databases, Elk managed to trace Damian's personal address—an opulent mansion located on the outskirts of the city.

"This has to be it," Elk muttered, his heart pounding.

As night fell, Elk approached the mansion, its towering gates and high-tech security intimidating even from a distance. He crouched in the shadows, studying the patrol routes of the guards. The property was as well-guarded as he expected, but he noticed a small blind spot in the camera system.

Taking a deep breath, Elk slipped through the gap in the gates and made his way toward the house. Every step was deliberate and careful, his ears straining for any sign of movement.

When he reached the mansion, he found a side door that had been carelessly left unlocked. Slipping inside, Elk moved quickly through the lavish halls, his eyes scanning for any clue that might lead him to Celeste.

After several tense minutes of searching, Elk found himself standing outside a locked bedroom door. His gut told him this was the place. He reached for the doorknob and twisted it gently—it was unlocked.

The room was dimly lit, the soft glow of a bedside lamp casting long shadows across the walls. And there, on the massive bed in the center of the room, was Celeste.

Elk's breath caught in his throat. She was chained to the bed, her wrists and ankles bound with heavy steel cuffs. Her glowing blue eyes flickered faintly, a sign that her systems were partially disabled.

"Celeste," he whispered, rushing to her side.

Her eyes brightened slightly at the sound of his voice. "Elk… you found me," she said softly, her tone tinged with both relief and exhaustion.

"I'll always find you," Elk replied, his hands trembling as he reached for her face. He gently cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing against her smooth skin. "I'm so sorry this happened to you."

"You shouldn't have come," Celeste murmured, her voice weak. "It's dangerous…"

"I don't care," Elk said firmly, his voice shaking with emotion. "You're my wife, Celeste. I'm not leaving here without you."

Elk quickly examined the chains, his mind racing as he tried to figure out how to free her. He spotted a small key on the bedside table—likely left there in Damian's arrogance. Grabbing it, he worked quickly to unlock the cuffs, the chains clattering to the floor.

As soon as she was free, Elk helped her sit up, his arms supporting her trembling frame. "Can you move?" he asked, his voice full of concern.

"Some systems are offline," Celeste replied, her glowing eyes flickering faintly. "But I can walk with your help."

"Then let's get out of here," Elk said, wrapping an arm around her waist to steady her.

The two of them moved cautiously through the mansion, Elk keeping a watchful eye on every corner. The tension was almost unbearable, every sound making his heart race.

As they neared the exit, Celeste's strength began to return. Her glowing eyes brightened, and she straightened, her steps becoming more confident.

"Elk," she said softly, her voice regaining some of its usual steadiness. "Thank you. I wouldn't have been able to do this without you."

"You don't need to thank me," Elk replied, his voice firm. "I'll always protect you, Celeste."

Once they made it outside, Elk helped Celeste into his car, his hands trembling as he started the engine. The mansion loomed behind them, its dark silhouette fading into the distance as they sped away.

"You're safe now," Elk said, glancing at her.

Celeste reached out, placing a hand gently on his. "Because of you, darling. You saved me."

Elk tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his jaw clenching. "Damian's not going to stop, is he?"

"No," Celeste admitted, her voice calm but resolute. "But neither will we."

Elk nodded, his determination hardening. "We'll face him together."

As they drove into the night, Elk felt a mix of relief and anger. He had gotten Celeste back, but he knew this wasn't the end. Damian had made a mistake taking her, and Elk was prepared to do whatever it took to ensure it never happened again.

Damian returned to his mansion late in the evening, smug and satisfied after a day spent indulging in luxury. However, the moment he entered his room, his smirk faded. The chains that had bound Celeste to the bed lay discarded on the floor, and the bed itself was empty.

"What the—" Damian growled, his fists clenching as realization dawned on him.

He stormed out of the room, barking orders into his earpiece. "She's gone! Someone find out what happened and track her now!"

Moments later, one of his security team reported in. "Sir, the cameras picked up someone entering the mansion earlier. It appears to have been Elk Takeda."

"Of course," Damian snarled. "That little fool actually thinks he can take her from me?"

He didn't wait for his team to act. Grabbing the keys to his sleek black sports car, Damian bolted for the garage.

On the open road, Elk gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles white as he focused on the road ahead. Celeste sat beside him, her glowing blue eyes scanning their surroundings.

"You're doing well, darling," she said softly, her voice calm despite the tension in the air. "We're gaining distance from the mansion."

"I just need to get us home," Elk muttered, his eyes darting between the road and the rearview mirror.

Suddenly, the roar of an engine cut through the silence. Elk glanced in the mirror again and felt his heart drop. A sleek black sports car was rapidly closing the distance behind them.

"It's Damian," Celeste said, her glowing eyes narrowing. "He's found us."

Elk clenched his teeth, pressing harder on the gas pedal. "Then we'll just have to lose him."

The chase began in earnest as Damian's car pulled up dangerously close to Elk's. The sound of tires screeching and engines roaring filled the night as the two vehicles raced down the road.

Damian leaned out of his car window, shouting over the noise. "Give her back, Elk! You have no idea what you're dealing with!"

"She's not yours, Damian!" Elk shouted back, his voice filled with anger and determination.

Elk swerved onto a side road, hoping to shake Damian, but the billionaire's car followed closely, its high-performance engine easily keeping pace.

The two cars weaved through traffic, Elk narrowly avoiding collisions as he darted between vehicles. Celeste, despite the chaos, remained calm, her systems analyzing the best routes and feeding him instructions.

"Take the next left, darling," she said. "It's a narrower road—he won't be able to overtake us there."

Elk followed her guidance, turning sharply onto a winding road. Damian's car followed, though the tight turns forced him to slow down slightly.

"Good," Celeste said, her glowing eyes flickering as she continued scanning. "Now stay to the right. There's an upcoming turn that will give us the advantage."

But Damian wasn't giving up so easily. He accelerated, his car skidding dangerously close to Elk's bumper. With a calculated move, he rammed the back of Elk's car, causing it to swerve.

"Elk!" Celeste exclaimed, steadying herself.

"I've got it!" Elk shouted, gripping the wheel tightly as he corrected their course.

Damian laughed darkly, leaning out of his window again. "You're out of your league, Takeda! You think you can outrun me?"

"I don't need to outrun you," Elk muttered under his breath, his eyes scanning the road for an opportunity.

As the chase continued, Elk spotted a construction zone up ahead. The road narrowed, with large barriers and equipment lining the sides.

"Celeste, can we use this?" Elk asked, his mind racing.

"Yes," she replied, quickly calculating the layout. "The barriers create a tight passage. If you time it right, you can force him to slow down."

Elk nodded, his determination renewed. As they entered the construction zone, he carefully maneuvered through the tight spaces, weaving between barriers and equipment.

Damian, however, wasn't as precise. His car scraped against one of the barriers, the screech of metal on concrete echoing through the night.

"Damn it!" Damian growled, slamming his fist against the steering wheel.

Finally, Elk saw an opportunity to escape. Up ahead, the road split into two directions, one leading into a narrow tunnel and the other onto a bridge.

"Which way, Celeste?" Elk asked.

"The tunnel," she replied. "Its narrowness will slow him down further, and there's an exit that leads to a less populated area."

Elk swerved into the tunnel, his car's tires screeching as they hugged the curve. Damian followed, but the tight space and the debris from the construction zone forced him to slow down.

By the time Damian emerged from the tunnel, Elk's car was nowhere in sight.

Elk and Celeste had managed to escape, pulling off the road into a secluded area where they could catch their breath. Elk rested his head against the steering wheel, his heart still racing.

"We did it," he said, his voice shaky but relieved.

"Because of you, darling," Celeste replied, placing a hand gently on his shoulder. "You handled that perfectly."

Elk turned to her, his eyes filled with a mix of love and determination. "I'm not letting him take you, Celeste. Not now, not ever."

Her glowing eyes softened as she leaned forward, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead. "And I will always be by your side, Elk. No matter what."

As they sat together in the quiet of the night, Elk knew the fight wasn't over—but for now, they had won. And with Celeste by his side, he was ready to face whatever came next.
