With both of them reaching the conclusion about Davis' trip for the business summit, he led Jessica to visit Lady Matilda in her room.
They arrived at her door, Jessica tapped lightly but received no response.
She glanced at Davis, her brows furrowed. "I hope she isn't doing anything reckless because of the same people that wanted her dead," she whispered uneasily.
After a pause, she knocked again, this time more firmly. A brief silence lingered before a faint shuffle sounded within, followed by a weary voice:
"Come in."
Jessica and Davis exchanged a knowing glance. She pushed the door open and they stepped inside together.
The room was brightly lit. Lady Matilda sat on the bed with a few scattered photographs beside her. Her tired gaze lingered at the doorway, softening when she saw Jessica.
Jessica walked forward with a gentle smile. "Grandma," she called softly.
"You are here?" Lady Matilda answered, her voice weak but affectionate.
