Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 A Bountiful Hunt

Jaune woke up again early in the morning. He could hardly sleep at all last night. The lion and the pit made go uneasy, but at least he took some rest. He got up and said his prayers, then gathered his belongings and went for onther expedition. This time he went up north and followed the Reincarnation River and tried instead of finding fish in the river, but hunting with his bow for bigger game. He set up camp just about a mile away from the River and then went out to hunt. He had his bow and arrows and his small pouch. If he found anything useful he can put it directly at his pouch.

Jaune continued walking though the forest. He had to have caught something before nightfall, or else he could not eat and start a fire. He continued on, finding through the forest big game. He had to be patient. Hunting can take a long time before an animal can be caught.

Suddenly, there was movent alomg the forest. An animal swiftly moves behind the trees. Jaune raised his bow, on high alert. The feeling that he got was not like the lion he fought yesterday. The feeling was more of prey instead of predator.

Jaune continued to follow the animal. He was getting closer. He could feel it. The presence of the animal was getting stronger and stronger.

Jaune stopped. He peared his head over a bush and found the animal. It was a deer, a white-tailed deer, which had antlers thick as tree branches. The pelt was thin enough for his arrows to pierce through the skin. Jaune pulled the strings of his bow and armed it with an arrow. While aiming, he twisted the string, and released.

There were other weapons Jaune had mastered. Obviously, the bow was another of his skills. Infact, he has mastered many other sorts of weapons. The axe, the sword, the spear, the bow, the crossbow, were just the basic weapons he had mastered, plus guns.

The arrow struck the deer right on, piercing deep into its flesh. The deer, sensing the striking pain on his back, tried running deeper into the forest, leaving a trail of blood behind him. Jaune followed the trail. He soon found the animal dead by a tree. The animal lost to much blood and died. He got yards of rope he made, tied the deer's legs, and took out the arrow that had pierced its side.

While he was tying the animal to bring it back, he felt another animal was nearby. "What?! Another one?!"

Jaune picked up his bow and arrows and followed the animal. He left the deer where it was and hunted the other animal through the forest.

When Jaune came back to the small camp he made, he dropped the loot he had hunted. There was not just two deer, but three. He even hunted birds, rabbits, and squirrels. He skinned them and took their pelts. He cut a piece of meat from the one of the deer he had hunted and cooked it for food. He ate the food with more satisfaction. The meat left his stomach satisfied and full.

As he ate he thought about all this food he had gathered. Surely the food which he had caught will spoil, and he didn't know how long will they last. If it spoiled he would have nausea and probably throw away the wasted food which he desperately needed. Jaune decided to solve this food preservation at once.

He got himself yards of string and tied them around two trees. He cut pieces of meat and hanged them up on the strings. He started a fire and smoked the meat. This would give him preserved food in a basic way. By smoking the food he had preserved food lasting for weeks or even months. By doing so he had enough time to do anything other than hunt.

Jaune laid down. He had a tiring but great day. He had hunted animals, cooked his meal, made more yards of rope, and made more leather bags and clothings. He even made a blanket and a makeshift tent. He yawned, tired of having done so many things. He said his prayers and fell fast asleep.
