"So... this is the kagune of the One-Eyed Owl…"
"Incredible…"
Even Mo Mo, a human, was amazed — let alone the ghouls in the group.
Their own kagunes were all fairly simple and unremarkable, and even combined, they couldn't compare to what Eto just revealed.
And more than that — Eto's kagune could speak.
The expressions on their faces said it all when they heard it.
They'd never even heard of a kagune being able to talk. Until now, they'd only ever treated it as a weapon or a predatory organ.
In the original Tokyo Ghoul lore, Eto was the only known ghoul with a talking kagune. Kaneki's kagune later gained that ability only after devouring a massive number of her kakuhou.
Still, it wasn't exactly a practical advantage — just eerie.
It's possible that Kaneki and Furuta, later on, could've modified their kagunes to speak without needing Eto's cells — they just didn't see the point.
But Eto probably made hers talk because… deep down, she was lonely.
As Eto revealed her kagune, her single glowing ghoul eye also became visible.
"So that's what a half-ghoul really looks like. Just one kakugan, huh?"
One of the ghoul girls stared curiously at Eto's single eye.
She and all the ghouls she knew had both eyes turn red when activating their kagune. Seeing someone with just one kakugan was a first — unique to half-ghouls.
After the quick display, Eto retracted her kagune back into her body.
Just because she showed it didn't mean she wanted anyone studying it.
"Minami, aren't you going to show yours?" Eto suddenly turned to ask Minami.
"Huh...? I mean, I can, but my kagune's nothing special." Minami smiled modestly.
Unlike Eto, Minami wasn't in full control of her kagune. She could only use her original rinkaku.
Technically, she had multiple kakuhou in her body now and could go into a half-kakuja state, but doing so risked losing control.
She wasn't like Eto, who could release multiple kagune at once and stay completely stable.
A full kakuja didn't lose their rationality — but half-kakuja transformations often did.
So Minami only revealed her single pinkish tail — nothing too different from a typical ghoul.
And like Eto, she quickly withdrew it. She didn't want to end up like Suzuki — being poked and prodded by researchers. It was kind of embarrassing.
"By the way, Chariman Byakuya and General Arima... you two are half-humans, right? So you don't have kagune?"
One of the ghoul girls turned curiously to them.
"That's right" Byakuya nodded. "Arima and I are both half-human — hybrids of humans and ghouls. But we don't have kagune or kakuhou. We're just physically superior to regular humans."
He didn't bother mentioning his Mangekyo Sharingan — it wasn't a kakugan, and no one needed to know.
"Ohh, so that's the difference between half-humans and half-ghouls. Got it."
"Anyway, since we're all enrolled in Kamii University now, how about we just call each other classmates?" Byakuya offered.
Being addressed as "Commander" or "General" in a school setting was… weird.
In the TSC, it made sense for people to use titles. But here? Not necessary.
"Is… is that really okay?" the ghoul girl asked hesitantly. Calling the head of the TSC a classmate felt way too casual.
"Of course it is" Byakuya smiled.
"Then… classmate Byakuya? classmate Arima?" she asked, testing it out.
Soon, the rest of the members of the club followed suit — dropping titles and calling them classmates.
Since Japanese universities rarely offer dormitories, Kamii University was no exception.
Even when dorms were available, they were usually subpar — renting a place was better.
Byakuya and Eto already had a villa in the 1st Ward and the Anteiku in the 20th Ward, so they didn't stay on campus.
After school, they returned to Anteiku.
"We heard you all got accepted into Kamii! That's amazing!"
As soon as they walked in, they were greeted by Hikari.
"Kamii's one of the best universities in Tokyo" said Koma. "The four of you got in together? You must be geniuses."
"By human standards, we should be throwing a proper celebration for this, right?"
Irimi offered, glancing at the shopkeeper. "Manager, how about we throw a party for them?"
"I think that's a great idea" said Yomo calmly.
Yoshimura nodded. "Let's do it tomorrow. The café can take a day off."
Of course, it was up to the group being celebrated — but none of them had any reason to refuse.
The decision was made.
But just then, Arima's phone rang.
"Mm... Understood."
After a brief exchange, he hung up.
"Was that TSC business?" Minami asked immediately.
"Yes" Arima replied. "A lot of Dragon Orphans have been sighted in the 22nd Ward, along with some powerful ghouls causing trouble. The TSC division there is understaffed and requested backup."
That ward rarely had incidents — so they hadn't stationed many agents there. But now, with a sudden surge of threats, they needed reinforcements.
"I'll go too" said Byakuya, stepping forward. "I want to see which ghouls still think it's smart to stand against us."
It was better to deal with the stubborn ones early — they were just obstacles to peace.
"It's been a while since I've had a good meal" Eto added with a soft laugh.
Devouring ghoul kakuhou or Dragon Orphans — both were acts of cannibalism.
Which made her intentions pretty clear:She was in the mood for some fun too.
