Chapter 12 - Chapter 11 – Officially Hired

Amelie's POV

It was official. I was now the winner of the student position at Michaels Investment Group. I was on cloud 9.

We exited the restaurant and loaded back into the car.

"We just need to drop Samuel off back at the office so he can drop off the documents and pick up his car. Then we'll drive you home," Nathan said.

"You don't need to do that. I can take the subway," I stated.

"Absolutely not, Amelie," Nathan frowned at me, "I need to make sure you make it home safe."

He NEEDS to make sure I'm safe. Not that he wants to make sure I get home. He NEEDS. I involuntarily blush. His gaze on me makes my core clench. I want to reach out and run my fingers through his hair. I want to touch those full pink lips, and I imagine the taste of his skin on my lips. What is wrong with me? He's my boss's boss. I should not be feeling these feelings about him.

"Thank you, Mr..… I mean, Nathan," I say, blushing. Saying his first name feels so personal, so intimate.

Nathan POV

My name on her lips is the sweetest sound I could ever hear. The way Nathan rolls off her tongue does things to me I can't explain. Did she just blush when she said it? I can't wait to see what color she turns when I fuck her. She's sitting in the limo's back seat, staring out the window. I wonder what she's thinking. What is in that brilliant mind of yours, Amelie Cavanaugh? I'm eager to find out.

We drop Samuel off at the office, and Amelie tells Marcus her address. Not that she needs to; I've driven by her apartment at least 10 times. I need to get her out of there. It's in a bad part of town. I know it's probably all she can afford, but I don't feel like she's safe there. It's been over a week since I ran into her, and I want to protect her. I want her to have the best of everything and not worry about anything.

I'm drawn out of my thoughts by the car coming to a stop.

"Well, this is me," Amelie says with a small smile.

"Let me walk you to your door," I respond.

"That isn't necessary, Nathan."

"I need to make sure you get home safely," I stated.

"Nathan, I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself," Amelie sighs.

I know you can care for yourself, little one, but that doesn't mean I won't. I want to protect you. I need to protect you, I think to myself.

I look deep into her eyes, "Please, Amelie, I need to ensure you're safe." I run my hand through my hair.

"Ok, Nathan," she bites her lower lip and sighs.

Fuck me! Don't do that, Amelie. I pull her lip out of her teeth, and she shivers.

"You're going to hurt your lip," I said.

Marcus comes back and opens the door for Amelie. I get out of the car and walk around to meet her. We walk towards the apartment complex. I'm determined to walk her to her door. Each unit in the apartment has an exterior door, and the hallways are open. Amelie walks ahead of me, and I watch her long legs carry her up the open staircase. She lives on the fourth floor.

"Well, this is me," she states as she reaches the door to her apartment. "Thank you for walking me up."

"It's my pleasure, Amelie," I say as I reach out and tuck a stray hair behind her ear. She blushes. "I will see you in the office on Monday."

I want to kiss her so bad. I lean into her; she smells fantastic. "Have a good night."

"Good night, Nathan," she smiles and turns the key in her door. Amelie hurries inside and shuts the door.

Amelie POV

I lean against my apartment door, breathing fast and ragged. What just happened? I was so close to reaching out and kissing him. Dr. Nathan Michaels! What the hell was going through my head? I only met him today, but his aura drew me in. I wanted to be close to him. I wanted to touch him. How is this even possible? Did he feel the electricity run through his body every time we touched each other tonight, as I did? No, he couldn't have; I was just being silly. How could he ever be interested in a girl like me? I sighed and walked further into my apartment. I kicked my heels off, headed to the kitchen, and straight to the freezer. Chunky monkey ice cream, that's what I needed. I grabbed a spoon from the drawer and the ice cream from the freezer. I headed for the couch and plopped myself down. "Nathan," I sighed and closed my eyes.

The weekend passed in a blur, with schoolwork and extra hours at the coffee shop. I was also excited to return to Michaels Investment Group after school on Monday. Working so close to Nathan was going to be a challenge, however. I felt a magnetic draw to him. Everything he did or said made it impossible to stay away from him. I started falling for him, which seemed impossible, considering I had met him only once.

On Sunday night, Tiff came over with a couple of boxes of work-appropriate clothing. She had said that she was cleaning out her closet and needed the room. I knew in reality that she had actually given me most of her work clothes because she knew I couldn't afford new clothes.

I hugged her tightly, "You know you didn't need to do this."

"Ame, you're the closest thing I have to a sister. I want to do this," she replied.

"Well, I'm so grateful to have you as my best friend," I said.

"Ditto, girlie. We'll go thrift shopping next week and find you some more," Tiff promised.
