Chapter 376 - Chapter 376 ⤞ The Calculations of the High and Mighty

{T/N: Below is an OG entry, nothing to do with the canon Campione story.}

[Excerpt from "The Demon King", a book written by the 19th century Italian Spellcaster, Alberto Ricano]

... For those who have accomplished such awe-inspiring feats, I wish to describe them with the title 『 Campione 』 (Godslayer).

Among my wise readers, some may frown, thinking this title too exaggerated, or perhaps some may think my record makes a mountain out of a molehill.

However! I still want to emphasize once more!

Campione is a supreme ruler!

For they have slain the Gods in heaven and seized the supreme Divine Power possessed by those Gods.

Campione is a Demon King! Because no mortal or warrior living in this world possesses the power to contend with them!

Among those Mages who defy divine will and toy with Demonic knowledge, there exists "The Former" whom they worship. Perhaps you all have heard of this name to some extent.

{T/N: He's probably talking about the King Who Manifests at the World's End.}

But Campione... or rather, the Illegitimate Children of Epimetheus — 『 The Demon King 』.

...It is most unfortunate. We mortals have no means to contend with them.

Only those with equal power — Campiones — or Angels serving our Heavenly Father, as well as foreign Deities considered extreme, can match them in battle.

✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧

Opening his eyes, he stared at the unfamiliar ceiling.

After a brief moment of disorientation, his brain began to function. He felt refreshed and reborn, his body instantly alert and ready for battle.

It felt strange.

"Ah, #ap;ap;ap;ap;ap;¥@,#¥#!"

Exclamatory words that only Adam could understand came to his ears.

Rising, he looked around. What met his eyes was an incredibly luxurious room.

Various unknown precious vessels, treasures, gold and silver filled every corner of the room. They looked oddly shaped yet possessed an ancient historical feeling called Eternity.

Not only that, Adam sensed their placement was deliberate.

Turning his head, he saw a beautiful woman kneeling beside his bed. Unable to see her face, he examined her body and noticed her peculiar attire.

Large areas of brown skin were exposed, yet it conveyed no indecency — rather, a sacred atmosphere surrounded her. She wore no ornaments, only a thin robe wrapped around her body.

"@#%#%@#@¥"

She remained prostrate on the ground, uttering incomprehensible words. Her respectful and fearful tone made it clear to Adam that she was afraid of him.

'Do I look that scary?' He wondered.

But he realized this woman probably knew his identity — Campione — which explained her intense fear.

"Um... do you speak English?"

Adam spoke in English, trying to accommodate her.

"...Y-yes! My King, Nieth still... understands a little, a little bit of English."

Whether she was nervous or truly understood only a little English remained unclear. Her body trembled slightly as she answered timidly.

"Ah... that's good, at least communication won't be so difficult." Adam said, trying to ease her nervousness.

After all, without clear communication, how could he gather more information?

"First, where is this place?"

"Yes! In response to the King, this is Fayum Province."

"Egypt?!" Adam exclaimed, then shook his head, 'No, I'm overreacting.'

He smacked his forehead. He had just slain Ra, an Ancient Egyptian Deity, so naturally he would appear in a place connected to the God.

After a moment's reflection, he asked, "Then who are you? And why am I here?"

"In response to the King, this servant is called Nieth. As for why you are here..."

The kneeling girl seemed to shrink even smaller. After a moment of silence, she gave an answer that infuriated Adam.

"...So you're saying that because I successfully slew Ra, your people brought me back after finding me unconscious at the Crocodilopolis ruins — no, in the breeding area. Is that right?!"

"...Y-yes."

Adam's deep voice made the girl tremble with fear.

Though he knew he shouldn't direct his anger at her, upon learning the truth, he couldn't contain his fury.

Let me explain why with a similar example.

The Monkey King in the Netherworld.

In Japan, there exists a disobedient deity named "The Great Sage, Heaven's Equal" Sun Wukong. As an incarnation of the Monkey King and Protector of Horses, he was forcibly sealed in the Netherworld by an unnamed mage with Susanoo's assistance, using the 'Keeper of the Horses' Binding Spell.

{T/N: Cannon story of Campione, you can check it.}

The Mage Associations both coveted Sun Wukong's mighty power and feared the trouble it might cause if it broke free. They kept it imprisoned, and even when it briefly escaped, they would seal it again.

A typical approach of those in high positions of power — disgusting!

But the powers behind Nieth were even worse!

They also coveted the mighty power of the Creator God Ra and even attempted to artificially create Campiones!

Unlike the previous example, these people had another option.

They could turn to Ra directly. The spell imprisoning him wasn't their creation, but resulted from unknown factors that conflicted with his Divine Nature, keeping him captive.

Ra desperately wanted to occupy a suitable human body to escape these restraints, so he struck a deal with the local Mage Association: Send people to him.

Whether someone successfully slew Ra or he possessed a human body and escaped, the Association would benefit either way. They simply preferred the scenario where a human slew the deity.

After all, Heretical Gods who manifest in the world defy mythological traditions, making their personalities unpredictable.

Humans, however, always have exploitable weaknesses — their evil nature cannot be erased. Put simply, mortal Campiones are easier to manipulate.

But this wasn't what infuriated Adam.

Ra had claimed Adam was the only one to enter his barrier in the past 10 years.

The truth behind this statement was sinister. Those greedy leaders, gambling on the slim probability of success, had forcibly sent about 10,000 people into the barrier!

They hoped either for someone to slay the God or for Ra to possess one of them. Either outcome would serve their interests.

The result was predictable — total annihilation. Not even ashes remained.

But that's not all. The truth is even more horrifying!

Before these past 10 years, these revolting power-holders had forced approximately 10,000 people each year to attempt the same feat. By a decade ago, this had continued for over ten years!

Over 100,000 people! Vanished without a trace!

Through the Heretic God's hands, they indirectly sent over 100,000 people to their deaths!

Ra showed them no mercy!

When the Heretic God found no suitable human vessel, he grew tired of these intrusions. To avoid being disturbed by these desperate sacrifices year after year, he established restrictions within the spell barrier, preventing any unsuitable humans from entering.

Only then did those high-ranking powers understand the truth.

Godslaying couldn't be accomplished by simply throwing more bodies at the problem. They abandoned what they now considered an impractical method.

What they never expected was that, 10 years later, someone would suddenly enter and successfully slay a God!

This shocking turn of events was also an unexpected delight for them. Those high-ranking powers' scheming minds immediately began working again.

They sent Nieth, the most beautiful woman in their society, to personally serve the new King — not just to please him but also in hopes of securing his forgiveness.

These old foxes were far from simple.

"...Those people truly deserve death! Don't you agree, Nieth?"

"Yes, my King, you speak the truth." Under Adam's cold gaze, Nieth knelt trembling on the ground.

She now fully understood the majesty of the newly born Demon King.

T/N: Just to inform you that I may constantly switch between the names Campione, Godslayer, and Demon King to avoid repetition throughout the text. After all, they are all titles that belong to the same category.

That's it and happy reading! (-‿◦)
