The Cartographer did not respond to Kael's threat. Instead, she raised her right hand and made a short motion with two fingers. One of the small plates attached to the metal structure on her back detached, unfolded in the air, and revealed a detailed map of Nemet Grove. The black stones, the trees, the door, and every person present were represented by small points of light.
Kael found his own point almost immediately.
Scarlet.
Moving slowly toward the center.
The Cartographer touched the map.
The grove changed.
The distance between Kael and the door increased abruptly. He continued walking, but the ground stretched beneath his feet like a road being unrolled. The trees retreated, the black stones seemed to move away, and the Cartographer went from less than one hundred meters away to almost half a kilometer without taking a single step.
Kael stopped.
Behind him, the opening between Yggdrasil's roots had also disappeared.
One of the witches in the unit looked around.
