The Hall of the Star Veil was the largest in the palace - perhaps the largest on the entire continent. Over two hundred meters long, its walls did not touch the ceiling, which was lost in a starry vault of living magic. Permanent conjurations created moving constellations that criss-crossed the space above, while ethereal crystal chandeliers floated in the air, flickering with silver flames.
Kael entered in silence, and at the same moment, a wave of movement swept through the central corridor.
Maids appeared as if they had sprung from the walls, arranged in impeccable rows along the side walkways. Each one bowed slowly, in perfect synchrony, their heads lowered towards the black marble floor with golden veins. Not a whisper was heard.
Kael stopped, surprised.
There were dozens of them and they all wore refined variations of the Court's ceremonial uniform. The clothes, although modest at first glance, showed off their curves with an almost provocative aesthetic care.
