Theron meant what he said. Even now… Malaya was still helping him.
He didn't understand why she did it. He found it hard to believe that someone could possibly be of such pure heart and intention. It almost didn't even feel real, and a part of him wanted to think the worst of her anyway.
It wasn't that she was pure or so intent on helping—maybe it was that she was a pushover, maybe it was because she knew he was her only way out of here, maybe it was something ridiculous that he hadn't even managed to think of in all his intelligence.
Those parts of him screamed at him, roaring in his mind and trying to get him to wake up.
But when he looked at her, looked into those eyes as she said those hateful words and yet was unable to see the slightest bit of true hatred in her gaze…
He couldn't accept those thoughts at all.
She had nothing. She had no strength, no power, no path forward, and yet she still found the best way to help him anyway.
