Chapter 22 - 05 One of a Kind 3

Danny - Monday Morning

"Any sign of him?" Danny asked, looking around on the front steps of the school.

"Nope," Tucker said, checking his PDA. "He hasn't bothered you for… thirty-eight minutes. Maybe he's hunting somebody else now."

Danny wasn't convinced.

"How many of those things do you have?" Sam asked Tucker.

"Just two," Tucker said. Then to Danny, "Good thing I beamed all your info in here and backed it up. Global thinking, Danny: the sign of a quality time manager." His PDA beeped, and he pushed Danny up the school steps. "Come on, you're late."

Danny - After First Period

Danny had time to visit his locker with Tucker and Sam after Mr. Lancer's class. When he opened his locker, ghostly chains sprang out and wrapped around him, pinning his arms. He was in human form! People would see!

Blue mist materialized into Skulker, who said, "I have you now, child."

Students screamed and ran out of the hallway. Skulker raised his wrist ray at Danny, but his PDA beeped.

"What?" Skulker said. "'Go to the newsstand and purchase magazine with article about purple-back gorilla'?" His jet-pack activated, and he flew intangibly into the ceiling. The chains holding Danny disappeared.

"Hmm," Tucker said, checking his PDA, "I have the same thing on mine."

"I think we'll blow that one off," Danny said.

Danny - Lunch

Danny, Sam, and Tucker decided to eat lunch on the bleachers. That way, there would be less chance of people seeing Skulker.

"Danny, eat something," Sam said.

"I can't eat now," Danny said. "He could be anywhere."

Tucker took a bite of Danny's food, and Sam and Danny looked at him. "Hey, this food was scheduled to be eaten."

He opened a milk carton, and a glowing blue orb floated out. Danny's skin prickled, but before he could act, the orb wrapped around his head.

"Danny?" Sam and Tucker yelled.

Danny grabbed at the orb with hands glowing with power, but his fingers slid off the surface without making a dent.

"Now, boy, once more, I, Skulker, shall—" Skulker was cut off by his PDA beeping. "'Take photos of gorilla'?"

Skulker flew off again, and the orb around Danny's head vanished. Danny glare after the retreating ghost.

"Well, at least he's regular," Sam said.

That gave Danny an idea. "Yeah, almost like a schedule. What's the next thing you have scheduled for me, Tucker?"

Tucker checked his PDA. "Gym, why?"

Danny - Gym Class

At gym class after lunch, Danny went to open his locker but hesitated. Next to him, Dash was praising himself in the mirror.

"Hey, Dash?" Danny said. "I'm too weak and defenseless to open my locker. Can you open it for me?"

Dash shoved Danny aside. "Out of the way, loser."

Danny and Tucker hid behind the row of lockers. Dash opened Danny's locker, and ectoplasmic goo spewed out to trap Dash in a bubble against the wall. Even his eyes were covered.

Skulker appeared and walked up to Dash. "Hmm, my sensors indicate you're an average human, destined for an average life after high school."

Dash's scream was muffled by the goo bubble. Skulker turned to see Danny and Tucker peeking around the lockers.

"I shall—" Skulker was again cut off by the beeping PDA. "'The gorilla display at the museum of natural history'?" He looked unamused as his jet-pack flew him away.

The goo holding Dash popped into nothingness. "What-what just happened?"

A boy walked up from behind Danny and Tucker. He was tall with red hair, and Danny recognized him as the one who took a picture of his ghost form.

"I can tell you what that was," the boy said. "That was a ghost! And he's after Danny Fenton!"

"What are you talking about, Wes-turd?" Dash said, acting like his normal bully self.

The boy pointed at Danny without looking at him. "Danny Fenton is a half ghost, and that other ghost is after him!"

Danny felt the blood drain from his face and boil in his stomach. Who was this kid? How did he figure out Danny's secret? More importantly, what could Danny do about this situation?

Dash blew a raspberry in disbelief. "Fen-tiny isn't a ghost! He's standing right there."

"He's only half-a-ghost," the boy said. "Right now he appears human, but he can become a ghost whenever he wants."

"This is crazy," Tucker said with a nervous laugh. "I'm his best friend. I think I would notice if he was a ghost."

The boy stomped his foot. "I'm not crazy! You're probably just covering for him."

"What's taking so long?" came Ms. Tetslaff's voice. "Don't make me come in there!"

"Come on," Danny said grudgingly, "we need to get ready for gym."

"But—"

Danny cut the boy off. "And I'm not a ghost!"

Danny - After School

Danny waited for Skulker to make a move. He, Tucker, and Sam were at the zoo, where they planned to ambush the armored ghost. Skulker watched Sampson the gorilla through binoculars.

"Where is he?" Skulker asked the air, lowering his binoculars. "According to this infernal device—which I cannot reprogram—the ghost boy was supposed to be here an hour ago." He jumped down from his hiding spot, landing near Sampson. "You were supposed to be the bait, you stupid animal."

"Sampson," turned around, revealing Sam and Tucker in a Sampson costume.

"Sampson's not stupid!" Sam said.

"He's also not here," Tucker said. He held up his PDA and stylus, ready to write. "Can I take a message?"

"You two!" Skulker roared. "You'll pay for this!" He aimed several weapons at Sam and Tucker.

Sam threw off the Sampson suit, and Tucker said, "Oh, I don't think so…" He pressed "send" on his PDA.

Skulker's PDA beeped, and he looked at it. "'Time for push-ups.' What?" He tried to resist as his armor dropped him to the ground to do push-ups. "Stop! Stop! I can't… stop!"

Danny took this as his cue and flew in. "I can help with that." He punched Skulker, sending him to the wall of the habitat. Danny followed up with more punches. Pieces of metal came off Skulker's suit.

An ectogun popped up on Skulker's shoulder, aiming at Danny.

"Ah, ah, ah," Tucker said. "10:11, polish armor." He sent the command from his PDA to Skulker's.

The blaster on Skulker's shoulder turned into a buffer that polished his face. Skulker yelled wordlessly.

"Stop fooling around, Tucker," Sam said.

"Power him down already. Now!" Danny said.

"Relax," Tucker said. "Everything's totally under—" An arrow shot through his PDA, pinning it to a tree. "—control? Aw, man! I had four more payments on this one!"

"Tucker, you're fired," Danny growled.

Tucker held up his hands in a placating gesture. "Okay, okay, no need to go feral."

"Very well," Skulker said. "I planned on simply capturing you and letting you live the rest of your life in a cage. But now, I will rest your pelt at the foot of my bed."

"Okay, that's just gross," Sam said, frowning.

"Well, Ghost Boy, any last words?" Skulker asked menacingly.

"Just this," Danny said. He patted his head and covered his eyes a few times, then pounded his chest with his fists.

"What are you doing?" Skulker asked.

"Calling a friend," Danny said while scratching his butt.

Sampson appeared and smashed Skulker to the ground.

"You learned his language?" Sam asked.

"Well, sure," Danny said. "All he does is this." He scratched his butt some more.

The trio watched Sampson bash Skulker to pieces. After removing an arm, the gorilla threw Skulker down on the ground.

Tucker said, "But I still don't understand why a ghost needed a high-tech battle suit."

Skulker's helmet flew off, and Danny caught it. Two little green legs kicked out from inside the helmet. A squeaky voice came out.

"Let me go! I am the Skulker. The Skulker! Do you hear me? Fear me!"

Danny pulled on the legs, and a blob ghost with limbs came out.

"I am the greatest hunter in all of ghost world. You will all fear me," the blob said while hanging upside-down.

Danny laughed, "Thermos, please."

Tucker activated the Fenton Thermos, aiming it away form Danny, and Danny dropped Skulker's true form into it.

As he was sucked in, Skulker cried out, "You haven't seen the last of me! I shall capture you all. You shall be mine. Mine, do you hear?!"

Tucker put the cap on the thermos, and Danny transformed into his human self to land next to his friends.

"Cool," Danny said. "Let's go home."

"But you still didn't get anything you could use for your report," Sam said. "You're still gonna get a 'D.'"

"Ah, that's okay," Danny said, kneeling down to pick up the PDA Skulker stole. "We stopped the bad guy, saved the gorilla. If that's all I got done, then that's—" Sampson stepped closer to Danny, giving him a view he didn't care to see. He made a discovery, however.

"Oh my gosh!" Danny said, falling back on his butt.

"What?" Sam and Tucker asked.

"Something that might save my grade," Danny said with a smile.

Danny - Tuesday

Danny stood by Mr. Lancer's desk as the teacher read the drafted article for Genius Magazine.

"'Brooding genius Daniel Fenton did what no other researcher dared to do. He got close enough to this rare purple-back gorilla to realize Sampson was actually a Delilah.' Nobody at that zoo ever bothered to see if it was a boy or a girl?"

"That's weird, huh?" Danny said. "Well, maybe they were respecting her privacy."

"Well, Fenton," Mr. Lancer said, "I have to admit I'm impressed. Wanted to get your grade up so bad, you risked getting mauled by a gorilla." He handed Danny the article with a stick-note attached. "'C.'"

"A 'C'?!" Danny asked. "I almost get killed by a gho—rilla, and all I get is a 'C'?!"

"Life's a big mystery, isn't it, Fenton?" Mr. Lancer said. The bell rang, and as he left the classroom, he added, "Next time you want to get your grade up, try the library."

"Well," Sam said, "it's better than a 'D,' right?"

"Oh, man," Danny said, "if only I had something I could take this out on!"

That's when his ghost sense went off, and he saw the Box Ghost yelling at a box at the back of the classroom.

"I am the Box Ghost! And once I empty you of your useless papers, your marvelous squareness shall be mine!" The Box Ghost laughed.

Danny turned into his ghost form. "Hello, misplaced aggression."

Tucker checked his PDA. "You've got five minutes."

"Which is four more than I'll need," Danny said hungrily. He flew off and started wailing on the Box Ghost.

"Beware!" the Box Ghost said between grunts of pain.
