"Fucking bitch!"
I shriek and throw my shoes at the standing mirror placed against the wall, watching as its smooth, silvery surface shatters into pieces. The more Karina's name pops up, the more I loathe her to the point that it's really hard to think straight.
Sure, I did ground her during the brunch meeting with other Lunas, but that victorious feeling did not last long. Because, unfortunately, I am perfectly aware of my own place, too.
And that place means absolutely nothing to anyone but me.
"Selene?"
Ronan's voice makes me flinch––I did not expect him to come see me today, so his sudden visit catches me off guard.
Nevertheless, I take a deep breath, smoothing my hair down and plastering a fake smile on my tired face. I can't let him see me like this; my effortlessly flawless demeanour is one of the reasons they love me so much.
"What brings you here tonight?" I try to sound as chipper as possible, inviting Ronan inside my room. "I was about to go to bed."
