The four dragons (Big Black, Little White, Little Green, and Little Gold) were not merely radar machines circling in the sky.
Whenever there was an opportunity, such as when an enemy wyvern strayed too far from its group or flew above four hundred meters, they would dive at high speed and unleash streams of dragonflame.
Their priority was safety!
Boom! Sure enough, Dany was struck by an arrow.
With the dragon radar fully extended, combined with her enhanced environmental perception from the Song of Wind, Dany almost never fell into an encirclement and rarely suffered an ambush.
However, at this moment she was slaughtering wyverns belonging to the coalition army, which meant the battlefield was chosen by the enemy wyverns — directly within scorpion-bolt range.
The coalition's scorpions fired in an endless barrage. Their arrows were numerous and fast, though relatively small in size.
Even with an unobstructed field of vision, a dragon's shifting aerial perspective could not track every incoming projectile.
When her view of the ground was blocked by wyverns flying through the air, the upper-level dragon radar failed to catch many of the bolts. As a result, Dany was exposed to being hit.
A bolt nearly one and a half meters long, as thick as a thumb, with a willow-thin tip twisted into a screw shape, spun with spiraling force as it flew. When it struck the Dragon Queen's lower abdomen, sparks sprayed and a piercing screech echoed.
It even scraped the decorative paint coating outside the queen's armor — the part meant purely for style. Outrageous!
To be fair, the bolt lacked penetration, but its impact still sent the Dragon Queen tumbling sideways through the air.
A wyvern swooped in and scored its prize. "Rwaaaghhh!"
It swallowed the Dragon Queen whole.
Well, not quite. A twenty-five-meter-long swamp dragon clamped down, biting over half of her body, leaving only two dangling legs swinging back and forth between the wyvern's lips.
"Ah!" the dwarf gasped.
"Hahaha!" Jeyne let out a wild cheer.
"Victory! Victory! Victory to the coalition army!" The scorpion crews roared in triumph.
Even the centaur cavalry outside the coalition camp was thrown into momentary excitement.
Atop the Great Pyramid of Meereen, old Aemon, peering through an astronomical telescope, nearly fainted, clutching his chest and groaning in despair.
The wyvern puffed its cheeks and chewed vigorously. The Dragon Queen's exposed legs swung like a child on a playground swing.
No blood splatter, no severed limbs.
Suddenly, a faint crackling sound echoed from the sky, as if something had snapped.
"Grooowl!" The wyvern howled through a mouthful of armored prey as two broken, fist-sized yellowed fangs fell from the air, glimmering in the sunlight.
"Gods!" the dwarf exclaimed, rubbing his forehead in amazement. "The Dragon Queen is wearing Valyrian steel armor. It is too strong. The wyvern shattered its own teeth. It cannot chew through her at all!"
"Valyrian steel armor…" Jeyne's pretty face twisted. "We should never have forged those statues!"
Valyria controlled Valyrian steel weapons with strictness. Across six thousand years, only two thousand Valyrian blades were forged. Armor was rarer still, reserved only for the heads of the pureblood families of the Fourteen Flames.
Perhaps through hubris, perhaps through fate, the Valyrians left two enormous loopholes in Ghiscar.
At that moment, high above, Big Black suddenly lost agility and went rigid, gliding rather than flying.
The next moment, all eyes widened as a torrent of red-gold flame filled the wyvern's jaws. Smoke and fire blasted out of the beast's nostrils, between its teeth, and from its eye sockets.
The dwarf even noticed the dragon's eyeball — the size of a rice cooker — with a thick blue-red nerve cord attached, hanging from the wyvern's ruined eye socket, sizzling like battered meat dropped into hot oil.
The Dragon Queen erupted in flames, tore free of the wyvern's jaws, and, as though unharmed, resumed her slaughter.
Even the saliva and blood coating her were burned clean away by the fire.
"This battle cannot be won."
Watching her cleave yet another wyvern rider cleanly in half, he spoke with conflicted emotion. "Even if the wyvern's bite did not pierce through, it should have caused blunt trauma. If she were anyone else, her organs would be ruptured and she would be paralyzed. But she…"
The dwarf rubbed his big nose and shed a sympathetic tear for the coalition.
The Dragon Queen must have suffered injuries — but she could heal herself!
High attack power, agile movement, heavy defense, and rapid regeneration —Even in a video game, she would be a full-on bug!
"I never expected her trump cards to be this overwhelming," Jeyne murmured, calming down at last. "If she had not revealed them today, I would never have known she had become a demi-god, or mastered the Song of Wind together with the Song of Fire. She has at least cultivated both top-tier meditation arts. She can at least resonate with two dragon spirits."
"If we had gone ahead with the original plan, even if we succeeded in capturing Aegon, we probably could not have killed her. She is too fast."
"What do we do now? If this continues, by the end of today our wyverns will all be dead and we will lose the skies completely.
I can already imagine it. The absent Mother of Dragons Wyvern Corps will return tomorrow carrying firebombs, freely bombing our ports, ships, and barracks," the dwarf said anxiously.
The coalition camp had been built by the sea, along with a temporary cargo dock where ships from Torros unloaded grain and supplies daily.
Torros had no grain of its own. It was merely a transit point. Ships from across the world traveled vast distances to unload in Torros, where the supplies were transferred to fast coastal boats bound for the coalition camp.
With New Ghis fallen and raiders in the Free Maiden Strait, the coalition's logistics costs tripled.
Roughly two out of every three ships entering the Free Maiden Strait were looted. Only one in three slipped past patrol ships and wyverns.
The strait was too wide — over two hundred kilometers — and impossible to fully blockade.
Dany had refrained from attacking the coalition for one reason: their supply lines were delivering food to her.
In recent months, New York and Annan had seized more than one hundred thousand tons of grain combined.
With so much grain flowing into the Dragon Queen's coffers, the coalition's supply struggles could easily be imagined.
If the Dragon Queen were to seize complete air superiority again and burn the small docks of the allied main camp to ashes, then without even fighting, the allies would collapse from starvation.
Seeing a thoughtful look appear on Jenny's face, the dwarf pressed on, stamping his feet and wailing, "High Priestess, what other trump cards do you have? Stop hiding them. The Dragon Queen has already wagered everything she has. You must not keep being so reserved!"
I failed to complete the mission, and there is also an evil god's seed lodged in my head. If I do not bring back something of value, forget asking the Dragon Queen to save my life. She would probably sacrifice me instead.
"Sigh, I really have no cards left," Jenny said helplessly.
"Valyria ruled the world for thousands of years. It couldn't possibly have had no trump cards, could it?" The dwarf looked deeply skeptical.
"Valyria's trump card was always dragons. If one dragon couldn't solve a problem, we sent a squad of five dragons.
If one squad couldn't solve it, then ten squads.
If ten squads couldn't solve it, we sent a legion of one hundred dragons.
If a hundred dragons couldn't solve it, then two hundred, three hundred.
If that still didn't work, we mobilized everyone!
At our peak, we had over five hundred adult dragons.
What trump card could possibly be stronger than five hundred dragons?"
The dwarf was completely speechless.
Yes. What trump card could be stronger than five hundred dragons?
None.
One hundred dragons destroyed Andal civilization.
Three hundred dragons wiped out the Rhoynar civilization, which possessed a powerful true god.
After that, the Valyrians rode their dragons and sang lonely songs about invincibility.
"Lady Jenny, Lady Jenny!" Sibellio of the triangular face and the Yunkai War God, with a dragon-slaying blade at his waist, spurred their horses hard and arrived together.
They were in great haste, their voices tinged with barely concealed panic.
"You two are the commanders of the ground forces!" Jenny exclaimed in shock and anger, scolding them. "Why are you both here? Who is commanding the front lines?"
"Don't even talk about command. They won't listen anymore," the Yunkai War God replied bitterly, his tone extremely sharp. "The month-long bombardment has already left the soldiers in the camp shaken and demoralized.
Now they see Daenerys alone, wielding twin blades, slaughtering the wyvern corps to the last man. What fighting spirit do you think they still have? And what's more…"
At this point, the War God glanced left and right.
The cliff here was not high, only a little over thirty meters from the horizon. The position where Jenny and the others stood was also awkward, halfway up the slope, facing directly toward the southeastern corner of the allied main camp, unable to see the northwestern camp behind it, which was currently under attack by the horsemen.
The War God no longer cared about offending Jenny. He stretched out his iron-pincer-like hand and dragged the petite, blonde priestess up the jagged rocks.
"Standing up there, you'll be spotted by the dragons," the dwarf hurriedly warned.
But Jenny did not react and allowed the War God to do as he pleased.
When they reached the top of the cliff, the Yunkai War God pointed northward and said with barely suppressed grief and indignation, "High Priestess, look. Just look!"
Endless horsemen howled as they charged in from the northern grasslands. The Dothraki Sea had truly become a sea. Fierce winds rose, and the mounted Dothraki surged like a tsunami. The thunder of hooves and the roars of the horsemen were the crashing of waves, and the miles of dust kicked up beneath their hooves were billowing mist.
The massive allied camp, stretching nearly twenty kilometers along the coastline, was like seaside apartments built by unscrupulous merchants of the Celestial Empire.
The first wave smashed away the balcony railings. The second wave swept off the safe containing the property deed from the bedroom, along with the mistress on the bed.The third giant wave struck, shaking the entire building and undermining its foundations. The fourth wave…
Of course, the allied forces were not all mercenaries, but mercenaries made up at least sixty percent.
And the character of mercenaries is something people all over the world understand.
The Dragon Queen had been conducting tactical bombardments on the camp for over a month. The mercenaries had not fled only because senior allied officers had repeatedly sworn guarantees: High Priestess Jenny had a trump card. Victory was assured. Hold on, and we would gain the countless treasures, boys, girls of Meereen, and even the true Dragon Queen herself.
But when the mercenaries asked what the trump card was, not even the Yunkai War God Grazdan knew.
Now, in the sky, the Dragon Queen was slaughtering without restraint. At sea, hundreds of warships from the Mother of Dragons' guard were besieging the allies' small cargo docks. On the ground, tens of thousands of roaring warriors trampled through the allied camp.
"High Priestess, our army has collapsed!"
The Yunkai War God pointed at the camp below, now in total chaos, and cried out in a voice of blood and tears. "Our camp stretches twenty kilometers. The collapse at the front is spreading toward the rear.
Once all the wyverns in the sky are wiped out, the entire camp, tens of thousands of people, will be utterly terrified. The mercenaries will scatter like frightened beasts. Loyal warriors will be at a loss, following blindly. Everything will be over."
"What is your plan?" Jenny asked with a darkened expression.
I don't even know what your trump card is. What kind of plan could I possibly have?
"My lady, listen to a word of advice," the Yunkai War God said earnestly. "As for any trump card, if it can be used, then use it immediately. In front of Daenerys, do not make your plans or schemes too complicated."
