His heart was still beating too fast. His body still too aware of how close Zhenfeng had been just seconds ago, of the way he had flipped the entire situation around like it was nothing. Jianyu hated that he'd let it happen. Hated that Zhenfeng was still standing there like he'd already won.
Jianyu clenched his jaw. "What's wrong with you?"
Zhenfeng blinked, looking genuinely confused for a moment. "That's a broad question."
Jianyu's patience was hanging by a thread. "I mean, why the hell were you acting like your life doesn't matter? Like you could just—just throw it away like it's nothing? And… what is actually wrong with you? Are you sick? Poisoned? What happened? God. What happened?"
Zhenfeng tilted his head slightly, as if considering the question. And then, with the same careless, infuriating tone he always used, he shrugged and said,
"Dying."
Jianyu froze.
He knew that already. But for a moment, he wished he had heard something different as an answer.
