Yan Rouxi held the strange book tightly in her hands, her eyes lingering on the faint smile curling on Xia Yuqing's lips.
"Are you so happy?" she asked softly, almost in disbelief.
"Yes," Xia Yuqing nodded with a calm certainty. "Now, I have nothing to worry about."
Seeing her so relaxed and genuinely happy, Yan Rouxi was happy. A small warmth spread through her, one she rarely felt. All of a sudden, Xia Yuqing turned and pulled her into a hug.
Yan Rouxi froze.
In all the time she had known her, Xia Yuqing had been a woman wrapped in coldness — an empress/ assasin raised in an ancient world, someone who rarely showed emotions openly. She had seen Yuqing soften a little around Lu Jinchen, but this… this hug was different.
It was trust, that came from the bottom of her heart. Yan Rouxi's throat tightened as realization struck her. She knew how hard it was for Xia Yuqing to accept and trust someone.
But, now she had fully accepted her.
