Otsanna stepped back from the bed. The air in the room seemed to grow heavier as she turned to Zephyr.
"I cannot help you, Alpha. This is a physical problem and not a spiritual one. Her body is too weak, too broken. It is losing its connection to her soul. The healer is right. She is dying."
Zephyr let the words settle in his head, unsure of how to process them but his Wolf needed no processing. The beast within him was already reacting and it felt the truth in its very bones. It cried out in low howls and continuous snarls of protest and pain.
She was dying.
Zephyr had not called the sorceress here to be told what he already knew in his gut. A flicker of impatience sparked within him.
"What can we do about it?" he asked cooly.
Otsanna turned to him fully, genuine surprise widening her eyes.
"I don't think there is anything we can do, Alpha Zephyr," she said, and a genuine sadness softened her tone, making the finality of her words even harder to bear.
