"I came by your house today." Varon said, handing a glass to Xander as he sat down beside him.
They were both seated at the top of the outer stairs of Varon's house, which was a stone's throw away from Xander's.
"I know. Your scent was all over the place when I got home." Xander replied, and the two friends burst into laughter.
"I went on a long run," Xander lied, raising the glass to his lips.
Varon sighed, a hint of playful exasperation in his voice. "You and your long runs," he murmured, taking a sip from his own glass.
Xander sighed in hearty contentment, savoring the rich flavor of the wine. He placed the glass on the ground beside him and gazed out into the evening. Varon had been enjoying the evening breeze before Xander arrived, and now, Xander too was appreciating the cool air.
"I've decided I'm leaving in two days," Varon announced, breaking the comfortable silence.
Xander clicked his tongue and shook his head slowly. "Coral won't like to hear that."
