"Is that not too melodramatic of you?" Zephyr's voice was blunt, a dry hint of sarcasm in his tone as he met his friends.
"We have every right to be melodramatic," Zeeb shot back. "If things had gone south, you'd be dead, Jareth would be Alpha, and the world would be ugly!"
Ralph let out a humorless laugh. "We were truly one simple step away from true hell."
"We need to deal with Jareth as soon as possible," Zephyr said, the mood shifting. "He tried to use dark magic on me."
Ralph's eyes widened. "Dark magic? How?"
Before they could ponder the question, they heard footsteps and the sound of rolling wheels.
Luna Vilka and Raula approached, their omegas a few steps behind.
"Zephyr," Vilka breathed out, rushing to embrace Zephyr, her sobs muffled against his chest. She had been terrified of losing him.
