Selene was laid in bed when Isolde brought in her dinner. After a quick hug, she held Selene at arm's length, her gaze searching with concern.
"Are you alright? You have circles under your eyes, Selene." She glanced around the room, her brow furrowed. "Your windows haven't been opened, and your meal trays are untouched. So that means you haven't eaten anything today."
"I didn't feel hungry," Selene said softly, managing a weak smile.
Isolde wasn't convinced. "Are you sick?"
"No. Just one of those bad days."
Isolde's eyes widened in understanding. She'd been here for two of these "bad days" with Selene, days when her friend was consumed by a profound sadness about her life.
Only this was not truly one of those days for Selene.
Today, she was just exhausted because she had been thinking for many hours. She slept very late the night before and woke up early to continue racking her brain for ideas.
"Did you spend the whole day in bed?" Isolde asked with genuine concern.
