Jane stared deep into Annie's eyes and the latter's anger slowly faded away the longer she stared into them. Though Jane didn't know how she looked right now to others, the truth was her gaze had deepened so much that Annie's anger turned into fear.
It happened so gradually that Annie herself couldn't tell the exact moment everything changed. One second she was glaring at Jane with open hostility, ready to throw another insult, and the next her own breathing had become uneven.
Something was strange about Jane's gaze and that was something Annie couldn't figure out at first. The way those eyes darkened, the way those facial expressions turned dull, it's as if the person before her was no longer a human, rather an unnatural creature pretending to be one.
There was no hatred in those eyes.
No anger.
No annoyance.
That was what terrified Annie the most.
