Amalia had come to see the Emperor like she had been doing for the last few days in order to have breakfast with him and then use that as an excuse to spend the rest of the day clinging on to him. Just like every day, she made her way to his chamber, ready to greet him and head towards the dining hall together, when she found the man in bed, still in his nightgown, eyes wide open as he stared up at the ceiling.

Amalia knew that look very well. That dazed look with his eyes rimmed red around the edges and hollow sockets. He had been drinking again.
Amalia grit her teeth the moment she knew what had caused such behavior.
This man. If you feel so conflicted, why don't you just trust your wife and run back to her arms then?
Sucking in a deep breath, Amalia stepped forward, preparing her treacherous scheme for the day.
