Chapter 99 - His there and now.

Jade's POV

I spent weeks avoiding Ryder until today when Roger forced us to work a shift together. Something about an old army buddy coming in town for a beer.

It didn't really make much sense why he would leave a bar to go have beer with a buddy somewhere else. It was code for Dad being a meddling Merlin in my business again.

He was trying to mend fences between Ryder and I.

The rain came out of nowhere. One second, the night air was warm outside the bar, the next, the sky opened up and dumped a freezing ocean on us.

I loved rain.

I shrieked, laughing, and made a dash for the rusty awning. Ryder was right behind me, his big body blocking some of the downpour. We were soaked in seconds, my thin shirt plastered to my skin, his white t-shirt turning see-through and clinging to every hard muscle.

"Well, this is romantic," I yelled over the drumming rain, pushing my sopping braids out of my face.
